Interview clip of D'arcy, of the original Smashing Pumpkins, taking about the stress of having to look pretty due to the fame they've achieved. From around the time MCIS was being recorded in 1995/1996.
You can tell that she was born just a little bit more sensitive than most people. I hope that she finds peace and happy wherever she is she is a good soul and inspired a lot of people.
The Pumpkins are NOT the Smashing Pumpkins without her....Period. I wish there was some way to make peace with the past, but I think she has had to let that all go and move forward with her life. There is a time when the "return window" closes and you just can't go back no matter what.
I still remember her lines in The Simpsons. "I wasn't a freak, I was in the audio/visual club". The duality of that statement is hilarious. D'Arcy has always been an influence on my bass playing, despite not recording most of the first two albums, her live playing is epic.
Crazy, Darcy never understood how beautiful and perfect she was to me and my generation...everything we felt she played the bass to it. there will be plenty of beautiful people in the world as time goes by but there will NEVER be another Darcy Gretzky My forever Crush since 1991 when I was 14...im 44 now....fuck life
That's the pressure of fame. As harsh as it may sound, it doesn't surprise me what ended up happening to her. Hope she's doing well these days. I'm also gonna go against GenXers comment here and say I'm glad social media wasn't a thing during her tenure. That would make things even worse. She doesn't need validation from us to know how much she brought to the table during her tenure with the band.
It's from March 1995. During the MCIS recording/rehearsal sessions, this interview was recorded for the “Rockumentary” released the same year. Thanks for the clip - cool upgrade.
The Album 'Gish' was recorded by Billy and Jimmy. Billy said he told them to get ready, and they weren't prepared, so Billy played the bass and guitars and Jimmy played percussion. It's a great album!
It's really unfortunate that she never was able to come to terms with how attractive she actually was during this time. She was one of the 'Beautiful People'.
it sucks that she choose to be effected by the superficial beauty standards of people she obviously and rightly had no respect for. she was cool, she was gorgeous, she had that mysterious quality that is simply magnetic.
a natural beauty and cutie even when rocking deliberately bad/'grunge' looks as she was here and at various times in the early 90s. i'll always wonder what this girl saw in the mirror that made her hate the way she looks.
@@majeliomontenegro1 don't think that describes grunge. Grunge was like baggy, utilitarian, some vintage 70s...it was sort of darker or more muted colored, flannel, sweaters...but it all sort of matched and appeared intentional. It was like the look of rainy fall days, which sort of was the mood of grunge.
@@ld2588 I was in my teens and early 20's in the heyday of the hair bands and in my mid 20's when the Seattle bands became big. I recall getting sick of the hair bands and thinking they were unimaginative, shallow and dumb as early as 1981 and 1982. The hair bands wrote safe, apolitical ballads, rock anthems and paeans to hedonism--sex, drugs and rock and roll. In interviews, they came across as unserious and dumb. They talked about their musical techniques and influences, if asked, but otherwise they talked about having sex and partying. Their personas and formula were getting old fast. Other than their fans, everyone was getting sick of them. Everything the alternative and grunge bands did, seemed to be a reaction against everything the hair bands did and stood for. Instead of wearing black leather or colorful spandex and having big, teased-up hair, they wore Doc Martens, jeans, flannel shirts or sweaters or thrift store clothes. Instead of using expensive Jackson or Charvel superstrats, they used cheap, junky guitars that they got from pawn shops. And instead of talking about sex and partying, they wrote serious, pessimistic songs and came off as humorless and politically correct in interviews. You don't need to tell me anything about the grunge era. I was from Cobain's generation. I was a grownup when those bands started taking off and I remember what it was like. When you say they wore vintage clothes from the 70's, that's what I meant when I said they wore clothes that they got from thrift stores--old clothes from the 70's that ended up in vintage and thrift stores because no one wanted them. The same with their Danelectro, Hagstrom and Guild guitars.
About 0:29 in, yeah, she sounds like she's choking tears back when she says, "It can make you feel really shitty," before faking a laugh to shake it off and still seem composed. So sad. I hope she feels more at peace with herself these days.
D'arcy la mejor bajista de la generación X de los 90's viva The Smashing Pumpkies hasta la eternidad infinita desde LIMA PERU el país de los INCAS.siempre estarán presente en mi existencia...🎸gsl.
She make the smashing pumpkins that extra 1000 % gorgeous as much as i love billy and the team she is an idol of mine since i was 10 years old in early 1990s
She’s had some serious drug problems. Would you want her to come back if it cost her sobriety or would you be happy knowing shes healthy but not involved with that work again.
It's so sad. She's so pretty, smart and talented. IT ALways seemed she had a "Daddy Issue" amongst other psych issues. Then, to have destiny land her with Corgan, was a double edged sword. It's not hard to see Corgans Ego and controlling nature. In all fairness to Corgan, he truly was the driving force which gifted, the "Smashing Pumpkins" to music fans round the globe. Then, adding rocket fuel "youth and success" to all that? Kaboom! As smart as they were/are. IDK,Hindsight is 20/20: It's too bad they didn't think of having group sessions with a psychologist, or something.
Tbh, she was not a bystander to Billy and her input influenced the music, and you can tell which albums had no James and/or D’Arcy later. The sound is different. But well, also she and Billy had a weird relationship, we all know how Billy is but she wasn’t shy when it came back to saying stuff to him, to the point it seemed like she made him insecure about some things (at least in his perspective). I honestly feel like it’s better for them to be apart even if I’d love to see her back
I named my daughter D’arcy .. D’arcy Rose .. the two most beautiful things I could think of .. she’s now 13 years old and it’s funny .. she’s just so casual cool and sensitive just like Ms. Wretzky .. it’s beautiful to be alive , and I’m grateful for both their lives 🖤
It never seemed like she cared about her looks, nor did she appear to put much effort into it. She happened to be naturally cute & bleach her hair. She did stay thin, but that was natural & due to stress.
she got into all kinds of plastic surgery & now you'd hardly recognize her. she was always kind of different, a little bit mean girlish. but during this video she (Darcy Wretzky) looked amazing.
Too bad she wasn’t comfortable enough to have just left herself alone. I guess I have no idea what mindset you get in when you achieve that level of fame.
That's the inebriating hubris and self hate when youre doing shitty stuff like drinking and drugs. D'arcy was easily top 5 hottest babe in every room she was in. Fk that. She was an easy 12 in my scale
