Main man these brothers put the pocket on the DC map and worldwide. Jungle Boogie (Tyrone) perfected the pocket before all the rest. Chuck Brown (Pops) told me that RIP. Go Go Mickey took that same pocket and brought it to a higher level with speed repetition and true percussionist style. Don't forget, Go-Go Mickey played with Ayre Rayde and Reality Band before he started with Rare Essence back in late 1983 into 84. ......Sincerely, "OLDMAN" of Benning Road NE. ...
My Go Go Family! Much love and respect to these brothers, that help to lay the blue print down for our Washington DC, Go Go Culture.. I am blessed to have been able to perform with all of them!
lol.. at the end, they did the classic *one on one* w/o any keyboard, nor horns, which should have sounded like CHUCK BROWN,JAS FUNK,LIL BENNY "ONE ON ONE" @ MHZ URBAN but they went with just percussions as a demo, (they were all percussinists).. love go-go..
Besides the horns sections disappearing in the nineties, the tempo also gotten slower. Im old School so I have a strong Luv for the Eighties Go-go but the nineties cranked to.
DC was a saxophonist not a drummer. DC was famous for holding RE down when they lost the power at Washington Highlands. He was grooving on that joint along with Benny and Jungle Boogie. They held that joint down! Here is the reference : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UIsX_97pU2I.html
