I know this is a old video of yours, but I suffer a disability called Dyscalculia which affects me to understand basic form of math and shapes. This video was super helpful to understand all the other shapes since I am just starting to play D&D with my friend. The Player's Handbook wasn't that helpful at first since because of my disability I just can't imagine all the shapes in my head to figure them, which is why this video will be super helpful for me to understand how the dices are supposed to work when you are playing D&D. So thank you for that :)

Aye I also have dyscalculia and this is exactly why I'm here. My bf was not explaining it well enough for my dumb learning brain to understand. This helped immensely.

@@FitzTheGame Please keep making them! I'm a total noob at D&D but have wanted to learn for years. The handbook isn't helpful like the OG commenter said due to the shapes and numbers. Explaining everything with detail and telling the difference between the two D10 dice helped a lot. I actually just got done with my first D&D session and it went great! Thanks again!

One quick tip, even as a veteran gamer of 30 years, I sometimes at first glance get the d12 and d20 mixed up. Both look like pretty round balls, unless you know what you're looking for. Look at the faces. If the faces are triangles, that's a d20. If the faces are pentagons (5 sided shapes), it's a d12. With d8 and d10, the faces of the d8 are triangles. The d10 faces can be a little variable but will at least roughly be elongated diamonds. And watch out for the d4s if they fall on the floor, these are designed to double as caltrops and will pierce your feet if you step on them without shoes. Back in the day, dice sets came without the percentile dice. You just got the d10 and you either rolled it twice, or you rolled two different ones of different colors and remembered which you had designed as the hundreds place. (I've seen a few tables used some places that have you roll 3 d10s and generate 1-1000...). Apparently even backer in the day (before my time), you just got a d20, number 1-10 twice rather than the d10.

I want to be a DM because I’m interested in writing stuff, so I’m learning everything about D&D. They were confusing at first, but after watching them repeatedly, I slightly get the gist. I watched other videos on the guide to D&D from characters to character sheets to dices, so your video helps a lot. I don’t think I’m going to be a DM soon because I’m learning the rules (though I’ll tend to ignore some in order fit my play style better). And I’m planning to build the world as well as NPCs and enemies first. Thanks for the guide of the dices 👍🏻.

Spoken like a true DM, don’t let the rules get in the way of a good time. One tip: try to remember that it’s a collaborative story telling game. Make sure to leave room for your players to aim the story in a direction they enjoy, always be willing to adapt and adjust as needed. Can’t wait to hear about your game when you start DMing.

If you were to take two d4 and connect them at a base you will be losing one side from each die so it would really be like an odd-shaped but still very fair, but hard to read d6. If you come up with an odd way to count the edges you can make one that's easier to read.

Hello! Quick question, how do you read the D4 dice?
@FitzTheGame
@FitzTheGame 2 года назад
There are 2 different types of D4. If you lay the die flat on the table and look at one side of it there will either be a number at the top of the side you are looking at and two numbers at the bottom of that side, in that case the number at the top is the number you have rolled. The other style will have two numbers at the top of the die and one number at the bottom, in that case the number at the bottom is the number that you have rolled. I hope that clears it up, if not let me know. Either way I’ll see if I can take a of some dice and make a post in the community section of the channel. I think a visual aid would really help explain this better.

You should try again, the campaign books do a lot to help a new DM when guiding a player through the game. As for players all you need to worry about is having fun, good thing is you get to define what that looks like so creativity doesn’t have to be a major factor if that’s not your thing. I’d recommend having a look at a local game store or geeky convention if you are looking for people to play with. Quite often there are people just like you, wanting to play but not having a group. You may be in the right place at the right time and snag that “group of nerds”.

Throw away your D20. Instead use D10 and D6 together and gain the satisfaction of being able to “rattle them bones”. :) The 1D6 presents as either zero or ten, low or high, 50/50. 1,2 or 3=zero while 4,5 or 6=ten. Add this result to result of 1D10 and you get 1-20. The low/high of that D6 can be read from across the room. Everyone knows immediately if you threw a 1-10 or an 11-20 without leaning in to look at the result of that 1D10. Old school, before 1D20, the twenty sided die simply repeated 0-9, no 11-20. We actually called the twenty sided die a “D10”. This was before the popularity of a die w ten sides, you see? Generated 1-20 in conjunction with the D6 or 1-100 when using two.

If you roll 00+0 it equals 10 not 100, the number that equals 100 is 90+0. I have had this argument alot with DMs. If its 00+0=100 you now have a 2% chance of hitting 100 instead of 1% chance. If the 1-0 die is one to ten then to roll a 60 you need 50+0 with this scale the total can only be between 1-100. If the 1-0 die is instead zero - nine, the scale is now 0-99. The 00-0 hundred is confusing because you need to clarify that you are replacing the 0 total to now be the 100 roll and that the 1-0 roll is now read as zero to nine, not one to ten. This could matter if someone needs to meet a 60% to succeed. They roll on die 50-0, is that 50% or 60%?? Its nice to clear it up before so everyone knows which way the math is being counted. With one 0 reading as ten, you just add them together same as always for every roll, but for 0 as zero, you have to remember to calculate it differently when 00 is on the other dice. Yeah my DM did not roll percentiles openly with me. Lolz
@FitzTheGame
@FitzTheGame 4 месяца назад
The way I see it: since rolling a percentile die and a d10 technically give you a number between 11 and 110 but you are rolling on a chart that’s between 1 and 100, you can’t get over a 100 value so you don’t count the 100 of you roll the “00” on the percentile die and you don’t count the “10” on the d10 if you roll “00” and “0” (maximum value on both die, representing the highest roll available) at the same time. So 00(100) + 0(10) = 100 because you have hit the maximum allowed value. If you roll 90 + 0 you have exceeded the maximum allowed value in the 90’s so you disregard the 0(10) roll. If you roll 00(100) + 9 you rolled 109 which exceeds the limit so you drop the 00 because you need to be able to roll between 1 - 9 because that’s how the numbers are set up on the chart. Same as any other rule though; it’s up to the DM to decide how to use the d100 roll at their table. If you run your game different from other people that’s fantastic, just make sure players understand before they roll.
@FitzTheGame
@FitzTheGame 4 месяца назад
Also, I want to make sure you know that I’m not saying you are wrong, I just see it differently. This is a fantastic topic for discussion. It’s great to see other people’s point of view, D&D is such a fun game because it gives you the ability to customize any aspect you want and play in a way that makes sense to you and your players.
@DudeMan1620
@DudeMan1620 4 месяца назад
@@FitzTheGame yeah this can be confusing, as your technique now introduces a third way of calculating. So if we go by your way. on a percentile check of 50% where 50% and lower is a fail and 51% and higher is a success. There is now 40% chance of failure (anything between 10-1 and 40-0) and 49% chance of success(anything between 50-1 to 90-9) and 11% chance of getting a critical success by rolling a 100. (90-0 and anything between 00-1 and 00-0) The question is how do you determine a critical failure roll of 1%, probably just say that rolling 10-1 is the worst as it is lowest on the scale. But yeah talk to your dm first, and usually as a player you dont roll percentiles that much anyways, its usually a DM rolling percentiles to figure things out on random tables.

Yes, a phone can be a great tool. I have a few dice rolling apps. Plus it’s always in my pocket. Can’t beat the feel and sound of some dice on a table though. 😁

Why is the d6 dice a square a square has 4 sides why does it say it is a 3 sided dice when it is a four sided dice?
@FitzTheGame
@FitzTheGame 2 года назад
It’s actually a cube, which is a 6 sided 3D object. The 3 was just the side showing when I held it up to show which one I was talking about, I was showing the 3 on purpose, it was just change that it was held towards the camera.

@@FitzTheGame it’s ok I. Thinking to get dungeons and dragons sometime but if I shan’t to start playing different storylines for the game does that mean I’ll have to buy different widescreens for different games? The widescreen you see the dungeon master have in front of him? Can I play it on the internet? I, a bit of an introvert and an only child so I only have myself to play it unless I ask my parents and ,y parents aren’t into that stuff.

The Dungeon Masters screen can be used from game to game, they have made different versions for different game book releases , but they aren’t needed to play each campaign book. You can even make your own (tutorial on my channel 😁), or not use one at all. My first DM Screen was the box that the D&D 5e starter set comes in. To start playing there are some was to find a game online, like using the looking for group feature on Roll20.net or places like Reddit. If you are young please make sure you have permission to do that and please be safe when talking to people online no matter where you are chatting with them. I was very introverted as a child and still am in a lot of ways, especially when it comes to sharing my interests, so I know how hard it can be to find people to play with, but going to a local game store and asking if they host new player friendly games can be a great way to start playing. If you live in a large or mid size city there very well could be an official D&D Adventurers league game you can join. I was 31 years old before I allowed myself to come out of my shell and start playing D&D, not because I was ashamed of it but because I was terrified to talk about it and too shy to ask anyone to play with me. I missed out on a lot of good gaming years. Other then that you may be able to scratch the itch and learn more about D&D by watch people play, reading the official novels or playing games like Baldur’s Gate and Neverwinter nights. I have also heard of solo D&D games, ones where a book essentially DMs for you, but I’ve never actually seen one before. This wouldn’t give you the same experience but it could be fun.

What? No, 00+10=10, this guy is wrong. 00 is 0 then add the d10. Lowest is 1 highest is 10. To get 100 you would need to role a 90 on the percentile dice and a 0 or 10 on the d10.
