The thing I'm looking forward to most is.. Rime of the Frostmaiden will be my first time DMing a campaign! I've been playing D&D since way back in 3.5 but I've never DMed a campaign (just the occasional one shot here and there). I guess because I'm the younger brother so I was usually the youngest at the table of my brother and his friends. Thanks so much for your videos. Your review/page through was able to help me prep my group through character creation and we'll be starting as soon as my digital copy arrives. It would be SO COOL (pun intended) to have the physical copy to not only help me as I'm DMing but to commemorate this occasion of stepping behind the DM screen. :)

I'm quite pumped for the plethura of new monsters and mechanics being introduced in Icewind Dale. They bring with them some pretty interesting possibilities to add some variety to my team's campaigns that we haven't ever tried before. I feel that my team get's most creative when they're faced with their biggest limitations, so it'll be fun to see what happens as they respond to Icewind's extreme climate.

For me, the greatest aspect of Icewind Dale to run will be the wilderness survival. Messing with resources and running this as low magic could really bring in that Revenant style (ala Leo DeCaprio) winter surival aspects. Easily making this setting an environmental horror setting could be incredible. I dont necessarily think I'd run its story immediately, but instead start with an Until Dawn or Cabin in the Woods story to acquaint them with the harsh realities of Icewind Dale. Its the setting itself that excites me, especially as a 5e DM of 5 years.

I am DMing this for my brother and cousins over roll20. We read the icewind dale trilogy when we were kids and this will be my family’s first big campaign( I have been playing for a while but the first for them) my cousins kids look forward to Dnd night each week. With COVID going on this has been a great way for us to still get together. I’m honored to run this for my family and nostalgia of our youth

I’m looking forward to the character I have in mind for this: specifically a Tiefling Eldritch Knight using the SCAG variant stats. A descendent of Levistus who’s had nightmares his entire life dueling with Levistus while he’s being groomed as a vessel for possession. When he gets wise, he flees to Icewind Dale.

I'm most looking forward to implement this into a recent campaign I began and just finished a story arc for. The gang just caused the resurrection of the ancient dragon Ashardalon, and decided they will start to hunt for him. I'm absolutely going to have Ashardalon work with Duergar - who were present in the last campaign arc - to take over ten towns in his new Chardlyn body (I can make a good pun with these names). The book will be dope for continuing the campaign as the party wished to pass by Neverwinter anyway due to a PC having family there.

I am most looking forward to probably just being able to further utilize enviornment. When pitching this adventure its going to be 'do you guys wanna do survival horror' and for that pillar of dnd which is so often ignored having more focus and not only that now dms have a reason to homebrew thi gs about enviornment. I think it will make survival and the managment that entails finally shine through. Also on the 4 hours of sunlight thing, that could be really fun and allow more people to play drow if they want, and with duregar as the main enemy for a section one of their huge disadvantages is nullified. You mentioned the players can get their hands on the battle plans, imagine that decision of we can face them at the first town at disadvantage or we have a 4 hour window of a strong advantage at town 3 but we have to sacrafice x npcs. I think that could be a highlight roleplay moment.

I'm looking forward to taking the book down to a skeleton and rebuilding it in my own style. I'll ask my players what kinds of characters they are in the mood to play and what they might hope for those characters to work towards. Then I'll wrap the campaign around that. Plus, I ran SKT and my players enjoyed exploring Icewind Dale. As a bonus thought, I'm personally excited about the obelisk!

This setting has so much potential. Love the isolation and the horror. I am thinking about making short rests an 8 hour rest and long rests 3 days rest. It would really make it tough on players. Wilderness combat would be deadly. Making them hole up for days on end while they get spells and HP/hitdice back. Then the survival aspect would take a prominent place: food, water, shelter, and navigation would be as important as their combat maneuvers. Hmm 🤔🤔🤔

Hey Jeff, I will pay the shipping cost if I win. I think this will be a great campaign to run with my students as we are finishing the starter set & essentials set combined and then journeying up to 10 towns for a change of scenery would be great fun for the kids I think. Plus the unique environment could be fun to play with. I will pick it up either way but if I win it that would save me the trouble of searching for a retailer that will ship to my location which can always be a bit of a headache since D&D is not actually available at all here. Anyways I will hope for the best. 😊👍

You say a 7 of 10 but from the critiques it sounds or feels like more of a 5/10. I was hoping for a better reception. I'm planning on running it in the spring, after spending the winter making notes and fleshing out some of the material. Plus it gives me time to paint mini's, make props and handouts. Personally, I'm looking forward to some of the negatives you mentioned such as availabke light and environmental conditions. But in other spots it looks like some simple tweaking may be in order to fit individual playstyle. Instead of disagreeing with certain fictional elements because they are unlikely, I'd rather think about what set of fantasy circumstances could actually propagate such an extraordinary or peculiar situation. I think that can give life and reason to the fiction, hopefully to the point the players never even contemplate that it had to be done so.

I'm looking forward to presenting my group a variety of rumours with sidequests and the choice between fighting the dwarf or the dragon. I do live outside the US, but i'd be more than willing to pay for shipping :)

I'm most looking forward to seeing my party dynamic with their secrets going through the campaign, one's a doppelganger, ones blessed by Auril & is a cleric, its going to be super interesting. :D

I am looking forward to playing in a very different environment than I have ever played in.

There is something I find so enticing about this dark cold world that this book is really doubling down on. My players currently have been spending a lot of time in the warmer areas and haven't really put too much thought into the troubles that the environment can bring. Right now for them they focus on the outward threats, the encounters and such, but not for long. I want to move them into a place of discomfort where they're suddenly thinking about whole new aspects of the game that they haven't before. We all just started playing dnd maybe half a year ago, and have been playing at least once a week since. I'd love to win that book with the beautiful alternate art, and thank you very much for doing this giveaway.
