LookAtMyProfilepicture :D from what I can gather from research, electromancers aren’t a thing in 5e. There’s some homebrew ‘electric’ wizard subclasses, but Koibu seems to like keeping it pretty traditional (apart from some mechanical changes to increase difficulty and time progression). I doubt Koibu would want to do a homebrew subclass, especially for an inexperienced player like Michael. It’s also not super efficient to have two/three caster-types in a party (bard?, wizard, and ‘electromancer’)

yeah hopefully thats the case next episode but it seems really difficult tho since most of the monsters they go up against will usually only take full damage if its a magic attack and lily is the only one with powerful burst damage spells.

@@kooldudematt1 there is no such thing as Cheating GM. Game system is just guidance. GM is the ultimate world creator and decision maker. Bad GM is a different matter but i don't think Koibu is a bad or unfair GM.

@@Mithguar You can cheat by breaking your own rules as an NPC. There's difference between confining *yourself* to rules and confining your *characters* to rules. It's just like why you don't do weird checks to the players themselves; like as a GM, you would never tell a player to make a skill-check as THEMSELF because how the hell would you know what a real life flesh-and-blood person's mods would be? Everything he did wrong was based on things he himself has been making NPCs and PCs alike already do.

The 30 minutes leading up to Daehcarc's death were a disaster: 1. Using combat-time for a player that is in a non-combat situation. *ALL* rounds in D&D don't take only 6 seconds unless your DM is on some next level rules-lawyering. Even in this campaign, *ALL* rounds haven't been 6 seconds, just combat. That being said, there should have easily been a cutscene for Toast's character to intervene. 2. Making the moster perform a check to get onto the roof, which he himself noted that it struggled to do and then not making it have a check while critically wounded to get back down off the roof. Ever seen a nearly-dead dog jump off a high roof? 3. There are plenty more examples. These are just 2.

While it's ultimately up to the DM to decide how everything works, I agree the statue should have been magical. UNLESS, of course, it wasn't magical before. Looking at the events so far, it easily could have been a spirit which crawled inside of the thing. Guess we'll know later.

He said they woke up and found the gargoyle was there. They didn't see where it came from. The narration about it being a gift was to remind them of what the Captain said when she arrived in port about giving them a gift.

So he does specify that they give the party the gargoyle, which is hella dodgy considering that [ Early Next Episode Spoilers ] he doesn't really say how they found this fact out, he just says it. Despite this, when Brittany returns she claims to not have put it there, and asks about why they thought it would've been her crew who put it there. The players don't know, because the DM just flat-out says it was from her crew. It would've been a different situation if he says they assumed it was from Brittany's crew, or if he gave some reason for the party to deduce it was from them, like a note, previous mention of a gargoyle as a gift specifically, or a message left to some other relevant npc. None of these things happened though, which means maybe the players missed something the DM expected to do, or the DM just planned it out badly. Either way, not well applied. As DeeVee mentioned though, the detect magic stuff would make sense if the gargoyle only became magical at some point after it was cast. If it turns out Brittany is just flat out lying (doubt it, if she does, I haven't reached that part yet) it's not as bad of a call by the DM as it first seems, but still pretty dodgy considering Brittany's questioning putting them on the spot in the next episode about information they don't, but in-character should, know (unless, of course, the DM was expecting the players to ask about it - even then, they're obviously pretty inexperienced players, the least he could do is tip them off a bit y'know).

m̴u̴s̴h̴y̴ ツ Literally 15 minutes after the Gargoyle, he stated he’s the DM and will lie. He just says things as assumptions for the players to base it of as. Why would Lily get rewarded for checking a non-magical statue? It became magical after the magical moving rocks disappeared into the ground. If anything, the dice determined deahkcrac fate due to the ungodly amount of firebolts missed.

@@weixin10 he is their only source of information, anything the dm says has to be true. Anything a character says can be a lie.

@@matthewkessler4918 still, 10 health isn't enough to fight that monster, you saw how much damage that monster can deal in a single round, it is devastating.

He was right to complain, they were able to tank a hit before going down, he very much didn't.

Koibu is so "by the book." Personally I'm not a huge fan of his style, when I DM I tend to bend rules/fudge rolls/present resistances + weaknesses with the intention of letting my players do more cool stuff, rather than trying to kill them off ASAP. Just seems like they have more fun when they're doing damage and being useful than when they're getting oneshot constantly and useless in combat. If I had a first-time player like Michael and I killed his character in his third session, I'd probably feel a bit like I hadn't done my job well. Everyone deserves to get attached to their first character ever for at least 3-4 levels before death is a real threat.

@@ATXnomad698 Koibu was showing them massive mercy at the end there having David arrive away too soon. The problem was he failed the death save before David could save them.

Magic missle is a 1st level Spell which takes spell slots which are limited and take a week to recharge while firebolt is a cantrip which is infinite use

The problem is that Neil is walking anti-plot armor. He quite literally doesn't seem to understand that you don't get to cheat just because you are the GM!

As for your timestamp, just go towards the end of the video and you can obviously notice a pitch shift b/t Lily and Michael (possibly the others, but they weren't speaking much). It goes from a geniuine "haha yay this is fun" to a fake smile and frustration-mask. It's whenever things are going downhill for them. It very much seems like Neil took out Daehkcarc because as a DM he was not creative enough to work with what Michael's character specified. I'm not sure why y'all fanboy over Neil when he does this stuff. It's really pathetic tbh. I'm not saying he's a garbage-person or that he's a bad dude; I laid out specific complaints about the way he's running the game, basing it on rules that he seems to be using most of the time.
