Yes! I love his video. I also love how many people WotC pissed off for something they couldn't do anyways.

Legal Eagle missed the point though. A lot of 3rd party material uses existing formats for stat blocks, templates, item abilities, terms, even if you concede that the basic rules operations can't be monopolized, the IP includes a lot of those other elements that could easily be claimed as IP.

You can however copyright the book that has the game mechanics.

@@Technoanima Book has never been necessary to play dungeons and dragons. It's a reference, and once memorized it becomes pointless. Any ruleset from it can be copied freely in any form, physical or digital for reference purposes without fear of copyright infringement. You can add them to wikis in their complete form for public distribution without hesitation at any time, and this has always been the case since Core.

Amen! I will definitely be playing more 5e. Mainly because of campaigns we are already playing but I won't be buying anything else from WotC. Personally I love Mork Borg, Cyber Punk Red, Blade Runner, and Call of Cthulhu. Fallout was really awesome as well. There's so many other good games out there that aren't owned by corporate douches.

Why do you need to focus only on ONE system... learn a bunch so tired of everyont thinking dnd is the only trpg... try the witcher... try basic fantasy try palladium try fobidden worlds try dungeon crawl classics try any one of a thousand other systems ffs people

@@prestigemultimediagroup6436 It's not easy and not for everyone, plus most people already have a lot of resources that they bought for 5E. There is no reason to move since there is a lot of content for 5E currently existing. It's not like playing it will help WoTC

You don't have to pay a dime to play 5e around a table. You can even get PDFs on the high seas if you don't own a copy.

I was wrong on that spell! Although there were plenty of typos in Spelljammer that spell I was referring to was Dragonqueens Will from the dragonlance book. That is the one that says make a will save lol Billion dollar editing right there.

There's only one way to find out. I totally understand where you are coming from but with the direction that Hasbro has went I would feel much better about taking a chance on the little guy than supporting the mad king. And I hate that for the employees because I agree that tons of them care and love the game and don't deserve the backlash they will be getting because of wizards poor decision making, but there has to be a breaking point with Wizards or they will continue to drain their customer dry.

In the end of the day, the workers are only geting they payment, and the CEOs will get they part on the profit. Its really sad, but the head of the wotc are the guilty one, and we cant forget it. Forgiving him just because he got workers???

@@felipefreire4593 They aren't just "workers" though. They are many of the industry's most talented creative professionals, who depend on WotC to survive. Anyone who claims to love the industry has to ALSO care about the people who make it what it is. It's very easy to get angry and declare "boycott WotC!" and end up destroying a lot of the people who created what you love along with it. I'm not advocating for people to forgive or forget what Wizard's tried to pull (and may still be trying to pull.) Absolutely hold Wizard's management's feet to the fire. Just don't rush to throw away all of the actually good things (and people) involved with WotC with it. Don't rush to call for burning it all down.

@@jackobatgaming people isnt saying "boycott rpg", they are saying "boycott wotc". In the rpg enviroment, the demand will adapt to other ORC and others systems

​@@felipefreire4593 Sure, but none of those other companies pay like WotC. None of them employ the same number of freelancers that WotC does (especially at the rates WotC pays). Even if every person who SAYS they'll support those other companies actually does, and spends every dollar they would have spent on Magic or D&D with those other companies, it would still take YEARS for those companies to grow to the size where they could reasonably replace the financial support to people that Wizards does, and by that point a LOT of creative people would be bankrupt or be forced to find work in other industries. And the hard truth is, people DON'T just change companies within the same hobby and spend those dollars with other companies. What they ACTUALLY do most of the time is leave the hobby all together and spend their entertainment dollars on something else. I'm just saying that a well intentioned but not well thought out call for people to boycott the backbone of the industry could cause a lot more harm than people realize, and it would have wide ranging impact on a lot more people than they intend for it to.
