We had once a party, begun a lifepath-game (i doesn't know, how usually name it in english, just translated how we call it by word), but had to go in separate ways, we met after about 3 years, but we still had our old character sheets, so we made up a oneshot, leveled up our characters for a higher ranked mission, and get the backstory, that at the end of our last game, where we get ourselves into a siege against a sorcerer's castle, we get stuck in a time loop, but we find an item, what helped us to keep our memories through the loops, and after the countinously repeated battles, until we find out, how to break the cycle we leveled up quite a bit... And we gave this as the explanation to why our characters changed their behavior in some ways (as we had some advanced experience with the game and classes this time, so we tried to get a more proper way to act, as they should), plus they got more information about each other's past (as that time we had only sketch-like backstories). They leveled up as a person too. You might call these kind of developments as "installment of craziness", but in fact, these are normal for an "adventurer". To them, the crazy would be a "calm day". As how at my home we say: "The one, who go and search for trouble to solve it, is a "venturer". The "adventurer" on the other hand doesn't need to make a single step - the trouble will go out it's own way, just to find one!"

So you essentially pulled Sip’s idea of another tarrasque? ... Nice

That supposedly would mean a bigger magical backup, than what a level 9 "Wish" spell could achieve. Those spells usually transform you or your target into a lower level creature, than yourself, and as the Tarrasque is level 20 (only not higher, as in D&D that's the level cap), to transform into one, the caster should have to be about lvl 30 or 40... And THAT's why the idea is supposed to be impossible. (Maybe a specialised druid of the moon could be pull a trick like that, but i am not sure, as i do not remember all of the rules of wild shape in their case.)

ChiefderWahrheit Reminds me of when I got the Orb of the Duck. Hey, casting a random effect on a duck a few times a day sounds useless, but you’d be singing a different tune too if you got Sphere of Annihilation and used a duck to one-shot a boss monster.

Lawred5 Alright, but brace yourself, it’s a long one. So, I went to a “newcomers” D&D session, in quotes because my Tabaxi rouge Ise was already Level 2...after a single other session. I joined up with a Tabaxi warrior, a ranger, a bard, and a gnome wizard. And we were tasked to going to a swamp village and going on two mini quests: deal with aggressive geese on the nearby lake, and investigate shadows in the forest. We started with the geese. We had to take a boat out on the lake, which none of us knew how to use. So we had to take an NPC called Old Man Billy. I kinda freak out, because I see this old, probably frail guy, and I realize that if he dies out there, we’re all screwed. So, we take the boat out, and as we approach the goose nest, a goose comes flying toward us. We give it as much time as we can, but we do kill it...prompting every other goose to come and try to kill us. Even worse, in a failed attack, out gnome wizard froze our boat in place. We actually had a few turns before combat actually started, and I shot a goose down with my bow on each of those free turns. More amusingly, our bard used one of his cantrips (I forget the name) to literally insult a goose to death. By the time combat actually started, we’d already taken down half of them. The 8 remaining geese attacked, one for each character, and two for the Tabaxi. I’d had an idea while we were waiting, that when the geese actually arrived, I’d grab one and slam it into the ice holding us in place. Cool idea, but I failed my roll. Also, the goose balance meant one got to Old Man Billy, and that goose...missed and was immediately killed by his oar. And this guy was really into the goose murder. Turns out he was awesome. So we kill the geese and reach their nest, where we find two things: a dead wizard and a giant sleeping mallard. Being the rouge of the party, my first instinct is to sneak up to the duck, slit its throat, and hopefully end the encounter there. It wasn’t an instakill sadly, but otherwise it worked, got my sneak attack bonus, took out a fifth of its health right there. And after we killed it, and our gnome wizard (who had to leave right then) took a staff of the wizard corpse, the duck shrank, revealing an object inside that I took. This object was the Orb of the Duck. Three times per day, it lets you cast a completely random magical effect on a duck, or other aquatic avian. Naturally, I thought this was kinda useless, and the only reason I didn’t immediately sell it was because we were in a swamp town that likely wouldn’t give me much. I figured in some other campaign I could play up its power in a big city to get a high price. The important thing is, going into the second quest, I still had it. So, after a bit of a mishap in the Forest (won’t get into it because it was ultimately pointless to the campaign), we find out that these shadows are giant spiders. We come back to the Forest at night, and come across one of these. Well, at least one: the entire party failed their checks in turn to see if there were other spiders around. We got into combat, and one of the spiders hit me hard. Let me remind you, I was a Level 2 in a Party of Level 1s. I had about double the health of most of these guys, and a single spider took a chunk out of it. That’s kinda scary. Still, we take out the giant spiders, and a few smaller spiders that showed up, and we’re preparing to go rest up, when an even larger spider appears. Again, I’m seriously hurt, I’m not ready for this. And right when I’m thinking of drinking a healing potion I bought on my previous campaign...the DM mentions a duck flying by. Sure, he clearly intended me to use the orb, but that’s a major dice roll; if we got a bad effect for us there, that could be a TPK. Still, we all wanna go for it, so I pull out the orb and use it. The DM rolls for the effect, and just says, “Interesting...” as he pulls out his manual. At this point, we’re all freaking out, wondering what the hell I just did. The DM described how the duck just falls to the ground dead, and suddenly my reaction goes from panic to “What, that’s it?” The giant boss spider, paying no mind to the duck corpse, advanced on us, stepping on the corpse as it did so... ...and suddenly half its body disappeared. See, the effect I got on that duck was Sphere of Annihilation. I basically turned the poor thing into a bomb that instantly killed the boss and saved the party. So with that, we got our reward, and everyone walked away from that session with a fun story to tell. And on the way home I passed a flock of actual ducks.

Imagine putting a lot of time in creating a spellcaster and a snips intentially curses you and it turns out you’re just a commoner in some robes now? What character/player would be cool with that?

I use to play a wild mage back in 2nd. So much fun. So much chaos...pary didn't always like that. One example: wild surge causes 10x's duration, minimum 10 rounds. This was on my lightning bolt, in a stone corridor, pali in full plate decided to stay and keep fighting the trolls will I dove headlong back into the room screaming "RUN!" He still blames me even though I tried to warn him. Funny thing, he didn't seem to mind earlier when that happened to my fireball and we got to walk away from an encounter...

Omg this all makes me me want to play D&D again!!! I think I still have the character sheet for a wild mage who is also a cat person (I honestly don’t remember what the race was) that was super hyperactive and so I’d have to constantly make roll to se if I would randomly be distracted by something along with the wild mage part of the character. Sadly I never really got to play with her but it looks like I’m gonna have to dig that character sheet back up and try her out!?
