BBC clip (the RU-vid video D-Day 80th anniversary: Tom Jones performs live at ceremony • FRANCE 24 had lovely comments but the cutting was a bit servere)
It's a song about his late wife, who asked him not to crumble as she died. Despite all his womanising, he loved her and she him. We all deserve the right to a love that works for us. Bless you, Tom. The old men felt your emotion and memories.Thank you. From Kaye, Australia.
The perfect song, at this time, sung by the perfect voice. He captures the emotion and passion of the moment. This song and version should become the official song of Remembrance Day.
This should be shown in all of our schools and then explained to our younger generation, many of them have no idea of what their grandfathers and great grandfathers went through.
You are absolutely right, the present generation mostly seem oblivious to the past and should be made to understand through schooling just exactly what was sacrificed by those mostly very young people so that we all have the luxury of freedom, great comment
I had tears at the back of my eyes throughout the whole moving memorial service - but this song sung perfectly by Sir Tom Jones had the tears falling. Please take this song to the top of the charts so the young might begin to understand the sacrifice an earlier young generation gave so they can be free.
'Lovely Guy'!! Are you having a giraffe?? He was constantly unfaithful to her, humiliated her time after time, has children with other women he has never acknowledged All whilst his wife was alive. And only when she was dying, did he mend his ways.
He is the best voice, he also stands for our service people, one of whom is our son who served as a Royal Marine in Afghanistan and two tours in Iraq where he was shot and luckily survived!!❤❤
If those soldiers who fell could see our country now, they would have turned back ! 😭 May they be forever remembered! Beautiful song sung by a beautiful man !🤩
I'm in tears and reminds me of all brave people during those hard times. One of my uncles went to the Russian front at 17years old and was lost in action. I never met him. This song should be played around the world ❤❤❤❤
What a fantastic ambassador Sir Tom Jones was at the D-Day commemorations. This was perfect for the 80th anniversary. We will remember them and we must never, ever forget what aĺl those men, from whichever country, did to ensure our freedom. We must do everything we can to stop all wars - man's inhumanity to man through the ages should serve to prevent us continuing such atrocities. We are all stronger in peace.
Even the Soldiers that never made it off the beaches shed a wee tear to this. To the Fallen and the once’s who made it home I thank you for what you done/sacrificed for us but I am also SORRY for what we have done with what you fought and died for…. FOR US 💙✌️🏴
Sir Tom Joness', merci. Ce chef d'œuvre musical je le connaissais pour vous avoir suivi lors de "The Voice UK" et oui ! Mais cette fois votre interprétation était GRANDIOSE dans une parfaite maîtrise et simplicité MERCI MERCI MERCI.
While Sir Tom does the song proud, let's not forget the lady who wrote and composed it. Bernice Johnson Reagon. Part of a collective known as Freedom Singers from Alabama. Round about 1973? Check her out on the RU-vid. She's also in her 80s. RIP to all those gone for and before us! 🙏❤️🙏🏴🇮🇪🙋

After 60 years our Tom still at the very top. I think his voice has actually got a little better with age. The term legend is way over used these day. But this man truly is a legend in every possible way.
Brought tears to my eyes. The fabulous #SirTomJones paying tribute to the D-Day Veterans 💔💔 We owe those who made the ultimate sacrifice so much. Thank you each and everyone, I salute you ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I wept for days after I heard this and keep coming back to play it again. Also, Tom Jones somehow keeps looking better as he ages. The way he stands, his facial expression, he just evolved magnificently. One would think his voice would be frail at 80, but like everything else about him, his voice... well, his voice left me speechless this time❤❤❤❤
On reste sans voix, rempli d émotions et de larmes, c est grandiose, et d y avoir assisté , qye i de frissons❤ et en plus ce grand hommage aux vétérans
Iv watched it at least 30 times already. I can’t explain just how I feel listening and watching Sir Tom Jones sing this incredible tribute to the fallen and also to the precious veterans . I’m humbled.
Oh WOW, Sir Tom Jones can really knock out a tune This song was so appropriate for this ceremony it was sung with such emotion. I think it touched every person who was listening.
Sir Tom is a Trooper! This is such a heartfelt performance. I recently saw him in Napier (NZ) and he just puts so much passion into everything he sings. Bendegedig Tom!
Those clarinets were amazing. They superbly created the drone of the bagpipes which we associate with both 🏴 and many European Nations. Superb playing from the Frenchmusicians
