This video shows you how to make a firewood rack out of cinder blocs, 2x4's, and 1x4's all for under $40 if you don't already own the material. The actual assembly takes less than 5 minutes, and most importantly NO TOOLS REQUIRED!
Materials needed:
(4) 1"x4"x4' Pressure Treated Lumber: $3.17ea
(3) 8"x8"x16" Concrete Cinder Blocks: $1.97ea
(2) 2"x4"x8' Pressure Treated Lumber: $8.67ea

UPDATE 5/19/2021: The updated video has been uploaded. This video exposes a design flaw with the rack that I built in the this video. However, the process of building the rack is the same with the exception of both ends which I will show you in this video. I hope you all enjoy. I use this too. My suggestion is to take the 1x4 and turn them for more strength. I use 2x4's as my end posts. I see how your ends are bending. Makes me nervous. But it's a great way to store firewood that's for sure.

This is great! Bah! Stacking wood ain't nothing. CUTTING and SPLITTING it is the pain in the butt. Stackin' is the easy part. Love this easy wood rack. I probably have half of the materials laying around in the garage or the shed.

UPDATE 4/19/2021: I built these racks on January 16th and 17th when it was very cold out. Consequently, the rack ends failed me once the weather warmed up. I didn't factor in the wood expanding while building this in the winter (hey I'm an amateur). As a result, the ends on both my racks failed (the same weekend lol). I rebuilt both racks this weekend, but this time I added 2x4's versus 1x4's on the ends. Also, I originally inserted the ends into the cinder blocks horizontally, but this time I inserted them vertically. I am putting together an updated video showing the fail and the more durable build. All in all everything else about this wood rack build is the same. Thank you all for viewing!!!

Looks great! I was told you should stack the wood bark side up. This allows rain water to roll off the bark and not waterlogging the wood.
@duckshaker
@duckshaker 3 года назад
Definitely a clever concept! The best thing about it (other than the simplicity) is that it gets the wood up off the ground. I think you were a little too concerned about getting the pieces to fight tightly. A little bit of space between them would let air circulate better, which would help them dry if they weren't completely seasoned.

This is brilliant. I'm moving to a property with water issues and this will keep the wood well above the water and will be easily moveable as I improve the property. Thanks so much.

I saw a similar tutorial a few years ago. I built one with what I had on hand, according to some suggestions from the previous tutorial. It held up like 1 1/2 years. Admittedly, I didn’t follow your method, mainly because I don’t live anywhere near a hardware store to buy these things, and partially cause I’m cheap. What I built worked for a time, what you built will last many years longer than mine. Sometimes it’s worth spending a little. I only had the thinner blocks on hand. The kind with the small slots, so they had to be turned on their sides contacting the ground. I used 4 of those, 4 landscape stakes and a couple of spare pallet boards for the “runner”. Like I said, it worked in a pinch for an upcoming party we had, but didn’t hold out longer term like yours will. Also, since the blocks were contacting the ground, on grass, I couldn’t really mow there, so sticker weeds grew terribly out of control around it. Oh well, you live/you learn. I’ll probably have to buy more blocks than you did, in order to make a base, since I have no concrete around like your driveway, but pretty sure it’ll be worth it. Good job! Thanks for a much better and updated version! 😊

Nice set up. I don't pay anything for my skids sometimes I have to do a little repair but that's it and the way lumber prices are these days I'm glad I get free skids. I just use another skid to repair other skids and use the same nails in the skids.

@TheAmateursAmateur
@TheAmateursAmateur 2 года назад
So far the 2x4's are holding up nicely. No bowing in the center at all. You should be good with keeping them flat. FYI there is a flaw with this design, so please watch part 2 for the easy fix. I don't want you to have to stack your wood twice like I did. Thank you for viewing!

Man...that seems like small boards on the sides. I have preteens and I’d be scared if they got around it. I saw a different video with someone using 2 round posts. I’m thinking that’s what I’ll try. Also, I think treated landscaping timbers might work. Maybe I’ll gather the stuff at Home Depot and try it in the aisle. 😆

"Cheap " if ! You have the materials laying around, already. I was interested , so I priced it out while at Lowe's ,yesterday Total came to $218.00 for 2) 2x10 treated horizontal. 4) 2x4 verticle ends And 3) cinder blocks. Cheap is relative.

Nah...I know wood went up in price, but It should not have came nowhere near that. On Saturday, I purchased 3 cinder blocks and eight 2x4 (4 feet each) for under $50. It seems your Lowes is elevating their prices.
