There is no way this mixture is 50, 40 10, its too thick and will not go thru sprayer. you can tell whats in your bottle is not that ratio, its too watered down! That being said works great if thinned out a bit with more water. Used on safety glasses just rub some on each lens then let haze a bit and buff clean works great!
Great info, but two things would improve it. Show the actual mixing of the soap, baby shampoo and water. Second, spray some steam at the masks (one treated and one untreated lens) to show that the DIY anti fogger works. Of wear the mask with one lens treated and one untreated. When it comes to DIY projects we are all from Missouri - i.e show us, don't just tell us.
First I want to say thank you for making this video, I don't want to spend a fortune on anti fog spray. I'm trying to make a mix for my motorcycle helmet but the 50-40-10 mix is definitely too thick. I'm thinking maybe 30 soap, 20 shampoo, 50 water. I went with the first ratio and had to water it down a lot. Thank you though, hope you guys are doing OK during this pandemic.
Hi Lake Hickory. I've never used anti fog products until now as spitting in mask is not an option with Coronavirus. That aside, have you used any products that are ecological/biodegradable? I ask this as I try to check things out that do the least damage to our environment @scubalogical. Thanks guys
@@LakeHickoryScuba Hey, I don't know if you get it in American, and you'd need to use a bit more, as it wouldn't be as strong as Dawn, but we have Ecover in Ireland, which is ecofriendly (unlike Dawn and most washing up detergents).
Thanks for the video. So you added hot water at first but you're expecting this to last you for a long time, does that mean you have to somehow heat up the whole bottle every time or is cold or room temperature is fine after the initial mixture. By the way in planning on using this method for my regular construction goggles.
Hello Toronja Nahera, you can use cold water as well, so no, you do not have to reheat it. I also use this mixture on my bathroom mirrors. It keeps them from fogging during a hot shower as well.
@@LakeHickoryScuba it worked really well. We were in the pool for about 4 hours saturday and 4 sunday and it stayed clear for the first 3.5 hours both days. Then i put a tiny bit more for the end and it was perfect. But ya. Works! 🙂
Hey Jim, we simply mix the 3 ingredients into the bottle and then start spraying. Its not an exact mixture. You can experiment with it to see what works best for you. A lot of our divers leave out the baby shampoo.
For me personally, no, I guess I have done this for so long, my eyes have become accustomed to the Dawn. If you find that it causes irritation to your eyes, try the 50/50 Baby Shampoo and Water mix.
Sometimes, but you should see the looks on my student's face when I walk up and spit in their mask, simply priceless. In all seriousness, spit will work as well in a pinch.
Nice! I went yesterday on a snorkel trip and they sprayed our mask with a solution in a spray bottle just like that, but it was pink and smells like rubbing alcohol, it worked really great for 3 hours of snorkeling no fog, do you have any idea about what that could be in that mix ?

Please don't teach people to use something harmful to nature. I am pretty sure as an instructor you know that these detergents you recommend do contain many harmful chemicals which you should not use while diving. Even if you rinse, they will still get mixed to the sea.
Hello arvin8. Thankfully, both baby shampoo and Dawn is used on a daily basis to help clean up oil spills and to disinfect wildlife that has been injured due to said spills.
Your Welcome, and the main reason we mix the water into the soap, baby shampoo, Dawn, or both, is simply so it will spray easier through the spray bottle.
We add the Dawn as an extra DE-greaser for any silicone that may still be on the lenses from the manufacture. This will also help cut any oils that will accumulate over time from you skin, being that our skin has many pores in it, which produce the oil. With that being said, we cut it with the baby shampoo to help cut down on irritation of the eyes. In the situation that I only had one or the other, they will both work fine on their own. If I had to choose between the two, I would probably go with the baby shampoo for being the most versatile, this of course only after I pre-treated the mask first, with Dawn of course. To close, the baby shampoo can double as a gear wash as well, since it does not create a lot of suds, which can be difficult to get out of wetsuits.
Dawn? Diving in Key West, I was introduced to the baby shampoo and water defog. The DM said it was just a little bit of baby shampoo in water, nowhere near a 50/50 mix. In addition, they didn't rinse it. I would squirt a puddle of it in my mask and just before I get in the water, I dump it out and put the mask on.
After using many of the commercial solutions out there, baby shampoo 60% diluted in water has been the best. Of course, if I have any residue of sunscreen in my finger, the mask will fog. Also when diving in cold water a seasoned instructor told me once to submerge my face in the cold water just to lower the temperature of your face a bit so the difference in temperature of the air in the mask and the external water is not that high, hence allowing less condensation.
Every year I go up to upstate New York to teach Ice Diving courses, and I do the same thing. I will dip my hand into the freezing cold water and rub it on my face. Not so much for the condensation, because my face is already cold, but more so to wash off any oil that may be on my skin.
Hello @quentinradsma7616, we feel confident it would work great as a cleaner for your glasses as well. We tend to treat our mask each time we go diving.
The boat I go on a lot has a bucket they put baby shampoo and water in. You just drop your mask in and your good. People breathing out there nose is a huge reason for masks fogging up as well then people blame the mask.
recipe, really? a recipe is: total volume (eg 1 litre) and list of ingredients within and how much of each (eg 500ml of this, 250 of that etc) this video is confusing.
Hello Daniel Payne [Staff], sorry to hear that you couldn't follow along with the video. We can break it down for you if needed. Step 1, Open Spray Bottle. Step 2, Add Soap Product. Step 3, Add Water. Step 4, Shake Well. Step 5, Spray Mask. Step 6, Rinse Mask. Step 7, Go Dive. Bonus Step, Share this video. Happy Diving.
In all honesty if you can write a a mock up of it you only need to use common sense to make it the ratio is what counts if u struggle 1l is a 1000ml so once u know that you break it down what is 50% of 1000 o wait its 500 there is your first ratio then the next is what is 40% of 1000 o wait its 400 then if u dont know what to do is find what is left its not hard lots of bottles is either 1l or 2l the chance of you making more then that is almost 0 hope you understand better now happy diving
Hello Raiders7528, calling it the best option will always be subjective. We still use this option on our Charter. We also like the 500 PSI brand as well.
LakeHickoryScuba - nearly every diver I have met does this in addition to spitting in the mask for defogging. Anti Defog sprays you suggest are not necessary IMO.
