@laser000111 Getting specific though. I used my Alesis SR-16 for the percussion, with the Cakewalk TTS library for the brass, piano, and synth toms. I used Genesis (a great, free VST), with a high-pass filter for the FM-styled bass, along with FM7 for the saw synth stabs, and some of the higher 'twinkly' synth bits. Tweaking the vocals was done in Melodyne studio. I hope this helps. :)
I still have this song on my old pony folder and I love it so much, probably my favourite becoming popular remix, and I am still listening here in 2k20, problem is that I am crying too for nostalgia..
@Scotsman707 Do a search for "Stock Aitken and Waterman" -- they're the music production team that quite literally owned this sound. I drew a ton of influence from several of their tracks when I did this remix. :)
Randomly popped up in my feed 9 years after I first heard it and it's still just as good as I remember! The song that introduced me to the awesomeness that is d.Notive's music
@laser000111 Thank you! Yes, please feel free to use it for a PMV, that would be crazy cool. As far as time goes -- I was able to do the guts of the remix in a night, and then spent two more nights just fine tuning and tweaking. I'm glad you like it. :)
Great Astley/Kylie throwback. I LOVE Kylie and have "Locomotion" on vinyl. This, for me, is a contender for best remix, (also "Becoming Popular" - Sim Gretina's BitGretina remix). This is pretty amazing I have to say. I've been a house head since 1997 and I hate most remixes. But this has flying colors in my ears. I think you're an incredible artist d.notive. Yours is the kinda stuff that makes me keep recording and playing music.
It brings back memories, My mother would play mid-80's music all the time. I miss her dearly and as such I love your tune D! Keep up this quality and also the style and within no time you'll be VERY well known.
THIS. IS. FABULOUS! I was 9 in 1987 and well into the SAW stuff, and the Pet Shop Boys and this is excellently done. It's going on my mp3 player and it's being played in my office today very loudly! Well done!
Oh my goodness, SAWity! This is wonderful. I LOVE old SAW songs, I'm glad you do, too. I also hear a strain of "I Should Feel So Lucky" in one of the verses~! 0:32 Kyliety rules!
@dnotive At the start of the MandoPony/Michelle Creber collaboration livestream on Everfree Radio, they went through Michelle's Brony Music Picks, and this was second on the list. And if you're asking who she is, she's Applebloom, and the singing voice for Applebloom and Sweetie Belle.
I was only alive for two years of the 80's , but this song makes me wish I was much older. This is seriously one my favorite remixes of this song I've heard yet. Great job.
@laser000111 Oh man, well there isn't one really concrete way to go about making music. I would say the best way to start is by researching different DAW's (short for Digital Audio Workstation), and trying to see what seems the most intuitive. I've been using Cakewalk products for years, so I use Sonar to put everything together. After the DAW it still boils down to personal taste, in terms of synths, samples, editors, etc. etc.
I have to say, out of allllllllll the pony remixes .... Only two are my absolute favorite. This version of Becoming Popular (I was raised in the eighties so it's very close to my heart) and Pinkie's Lie. I heart the crap out of this.
I've known about d.notive since I've known what a brony is... why am I just now finding this music?!?! This song and all your others are being added to my armory. :D
Had to make another pony playlist to hold this... my other one is already maxed at 200 videos (over 10 hours of pony)... loved this and "Let your mane hang down". Looking forward to more :) Yay!
Free Lossless Audio Codec. The quality and filesize of an FLAC is somewhere between an uncompressed WAV file and a 320kbps MP3 file. Draw your own conclusions from that. :P
@ThyraiMedia Eh, sorta. I have a few things cooking right now. One of them is a vlog ... something a bit more serious, that was going to be sort of an homage to the fans. IDK. We shall see. I'm out of costum--- well .... wait, maybe I'm not. BRB.
Nice choice of era. You've got most of that classic house sound in here, but it sounds more like synthpop than it does 80s era house in my ears. Cracking track, tho.
Yes go watch everfree radio's bronypalooza video, they play it at somepoint i remember, also thanks for the Brohoof @ Bronycon it was nice meeting you Tombstone, Glaze & Mic!
The truck in front of the venue played as far as I can see EVERY popular song in the fandom. I have to say, I would be amazed if this would've NOT been among them. :)
The beginning im really familar with, but I can't place the song. I do remember that it had the almost same intro and general rythm... aarhhgg this is driving me crazy.
@dnotive Michelle Creber (Speaking voice of Applebloom, singing voice of Sweetie Belle for those unfamiliar with the VA cast) did a collab w/ Mandopony that was released on EFR.
"Way higher" is relative. Ultimately, it all depends on what you're using to listen to music with. And if you wanna get really technical - on Windows 7 (or 8), unless you have an ASIO driver installed (and a music player that supports it), your music will still get downsampled anyway by Windows' internal mixer. :s
All my freakin' YES. Onto the iPod it goes! At first I'll admit, kinda wasn't feeling it too terribly much. The first verse sounded pretty much identical to what was in the song, and didn't have a lot of instrumental play around it. Seemed like a standard "take lyrics, put looping measure atop it, call it a remix" remix. Then the refrain kicked in, punched me in the nuts, scribbled obscenities on my forehead, and told me to shut the flank up before I done wreck myself. And I loved it.
