Roll for initiative! My wife has taken up playing D&D, but there is never enough space at and around the table for the game, books, dice and snacks, so I made her a pair of D20 inspired side tables.

Great design combining attractive natural 'flaws' with careful details. It is very focusing to watch you work without narration. No need for it, you make each step so visually clear. Thank you!

Great video Paul! Always a pleasure to watch your work process!

I love your videos so much, Paul. This table is gorgeous, and it's an outstanding prize to a DnD nerd!

Love your work, Paul. And the more I watch you, the more I want to get into hand tools. Even cut my first dovetail last week. 👍

Cheers Chris. I saw your dovetails, they looked good! Mario looked like he was about to kick you out if you kept avoiding using the vice 😂 I'll be making a Gottshall block by the end of the month, which should be a good little chisel skillbuilder to follow along with

@@TheWoodKnight thanks Paul, I was pretty happy with the way it turned out. Just gotta practice now. Not sure what a Gottshall block is, but I always look forward to content from you. Cheers. 👍

It's weird, but the tiny square rounded plugs is what really stands out for me. Oh I wish my other half was nerdy enough to let me copy these for home 😂

I reckon you could sneak one in, just play it real cool and casual for awhile, maybe place a new houseplant on, then bam, turns out it was a mimic and was a D20 side table all along, not a normie table ;)

Love the look, you make everything look so easy though! I doubt my attempt will come out nearly so clean.

Stunning! I wish I had half your skill so I could make something like that to replace the cheap Amazon side table I use for game night.

Love it mate. Don't know if my Mrs would allow DnD specific furniture

AND.. Thanks for watching... Very nice. Tas Oak? My Favourite. Hard to get it here in the West. Did you get the Festool Router for Christmas? How does it compare with the Bosch? Happy New Year to you and Nat. 😊

Thanks Peter - yup, vic ash/tas oak with jarrah stringing - a classic combo that'll get hard to source anywhere with the Vic and WA govs deciding to stop logging! Funnily enough I bought the Festool router back in November... 2022! I just haven't had much of a chance to play with it. It's mostly better than the Bosch, but not in all ways. The major downside is no LEDs making visibility poor, and while the hand knob/lock works, its a bit less intuitive than a lever. The flip side is the electronic brake stops it very quickly, the ratcheting collet is *amazing*, the plunge mechanism is amazingly smooth - you can plunge by just using your pinky! Bosch AU never really imported all the accessories either, so its nice being able to order bits and pieces and have them turn up in a day or two. Dust collection is about even - though Festool has better edge dust collection in the guide, and the guide is sturdier/easier to micro adjust. Bosch Australia are no longer selling the GOF1600CE either - they have no full size routers in the country which is a real shame. It's hard to say the OF1400 is "worth the price increase" over the Bosch when you can't buy the Bosch any more!

Nat 20 for sure! Paul I noticed you shaving your dominoes down, is this to allow for some adjustability or other reason?

What was that you filled the cracks with? Looked like rubber? Was it really as soft after drying as it looked? Cool tables! Love the channel!

Its a polyamide filler that dries (cools?) reasonably hard. "Wood repair" is the brand. It's basically a fancy hot glue gun that's not very good for gluing 😂 I'll have a video on it in the next couple of weeks. Its an interesting product, but a bit pricey

great design Paul, love the inlay work. What did you use for the finish?
@TheWoodKnight

Cheers Vipun. I used Livos Kunos (Countertop oil version) - more or less my go to finish these days!

yeah thought it was kunos, i am loving it myself to be honest. Its a fantastic finish!@@TheWoodKnight

Have to call it a critical success. I thought you might have put pips on the square screw plugs. Then the legs would each have 1 D6 damage
@TheWoodKnight
@TheWoodKnight 9 месяцев назад
The truth about the plugs is they were a solution to a bunch of mistakes! 🤣 The initial design had short stretchers from each of the legs to the shelf, but I miscalculated the shelf size and to make that work the shelf would have been close to the ground. The screws and plugs were basically me panicking to try and get it working - I didn't think too much about design aspect and just wanted it done!

Next video: roll of the dice. Where the project follows the luck of the roll. A six might be hand tools only, a three means the domino must be used, etc. It might end in terrible results but will be a laugh a minute.

@PriceyBuilt
@PriceyBuilt 9 месяцев назад
@@TheWoodKnight That's unfortunate. I really like your channel. I've been subscribed for quite a while and watch almost every one of your videos. I generally refuse to subscribe to, or even watch, videos without narration though. I know you've done a few without voiceover before, so I hope it's not something you plan to do more frequently.
@TheWoodKnight
@TheWoodKnight 9 месяцев назад
I don't think I've ever done more than one a year! The supercut is just because they're in vogue at the moment and are a shameless cash grab that'll allow me to do more woodworking projects by having the funds there. This project was shot the way it was because narration/instructions/etc take twice as long and there was a time crunch to get the tables done before Nat's next D&D session. The frustrating thing was halfway I wanted to stop, scrap the whole thing and start again going slower, making proper jigs for the perfect angles, and instructions. I may revisit the project in a few months if I can find a buyer in Nat's nerd groups 🤣
