They should've focused less on announcements (because they really had non) and more on behind the scenes stuff from upcoming rides they're building over-seas, like you mention.
I actually think Encanto would work for Animal Kingdom. The story doesn't specifically relate to animal themes, but the movie heavily features Amazonian animals. It would be an adequate IP for bringing South American wildlife to the park. All in all, none of the IPs should go in the parks where they're being proposed. Coco should be in Epcot, Encanto in Epcot or AK, Moana in MK, and Zootopia in Hollywood Studios (if anywhere).
95% of Blue Sky concepts DO NOT come to fruition. This was the vital time for Disney to respond to Universals Epic project and they did NOTHING! Either they just don’t care and still have that ignorance thinking Universal isn’t a threat, or they are in total panic mode and just have no idea how to respond. Even if for some crazy way, one of these “what if” Blue Sky concepts do go forward, I guarantee you that the finished product will look far less impressive and watered down cheaply from the artwork they provide early. Disney, you should be very scared and concerned of Universal because their firing on all cylinders and showing no signs of slowing down

i feel like the only reason they talked about these blue sky projects is because of epic universe, if universal wasn’t building a new park they wouldn’t have brought it up at all
I think so too. They definitely want us to know they're cooking up stuff in WDW, but don't have it ready yet to announce. In year's past, I think they either would have A: Decided on actually committing to at least one of the concepts and just announce it even though it is not build-ready, or B: Shown a vague concept of an expansion plot WITHOUT saying what the possible properties could be built in it. It was them saying the possible intellectual properties that felt weird this time.
There's this post on r/disneyparks that suggested they do a Dinotopia theme instead of Zootopia/Moana for Dinoland USA at WDW with ride concepts and everything that's way better then what was shown at D23.
Moana in Animal Kingdom is atrocious. Encanto and Coco are going to be beautiful and both deserve a place in the parks, but not in frontierland. Thematically speaking, this is an abomination... It baffles me the downward spiral Disney is being on for the last decade.
I like a lot the idea of Moana at AK, because the movie talks about the nature and for me, the sense of AK it's the animals AND the nature.. but the thing for me it's that the mini land it's already being constructed at Epcot.. so the idea of having Moana at two parks.. its too much for me. I was hoping for a new dark ride of The Lion King near the Festival of the Lion King, but nothing happened and I think that it will never take place this idea 😂
Darkest Theme Park Timeline: The hatbox ghost going into Haunted Mansion is going to be Jared Leto instead of the original. Disney is literally using it's fanbase to make their business plan and it's embarrassing. DISNEY PLEASE DO A JUNGLEBOOK RETHEME TO KALI RIVER RAPIDS!!!! It would make a very unpopular ride more memorable and it wouldn’t be expensive to do!!!! It fits the land perfectly!
They need to stop stuffing IP's down our throat at the parks and come up with some original rides and lands. The over-commercialization is what I hate most about the Disney parks (besides crowds). Take a look at Efteling in the Netherlands, or some other European parks. They are way less commercial with no (or very little) IP stuff.
That's silly though as these parks aren't huge corporations with IP's on tap are they? I'm from UK too so I know many of these parks well. Disney or Universal not using IP's doesn't make sense. Surely that's the whole point?
@@solskjaer1195 There's a huge difference between using IP's and stuffing them down our throats by, for example, revamping classic rides, or putting them in parks/areas where they're really out of place. But you kinda misread the point I wanted to make with my original reaction: it was about them needing to invest in original content/rides in the parks. They don't NEED to force IP rides into existence. Original rides without an IP will work equally well when it's a good ride.
@@remconet If you don't want IP's there are hundreds of parks you can go to instead. Disney and Universal are basically where they bring films to live. What would an original concept at Disney or Universal even look like? It makes no sense.
The thing is that they literally announced an animatronic, and are bringing back shows that we already had, albeit tweaked...and a vague timeframe for Tron opening. They literally could've just put out a 2 page memorandum with an outline that could take less than 5 minutes to read and get the info out there. So here in WDW there really wasn't much more than what I already mentioned and a couple of meet and greets. That's it. It was an enormous waste of people's money for something that could've been put out in a memo or an email. If I were Universal, I'd hit them with announcements this week officially stating what is coming with Epic Universe and blow Disney's ears off.
Alicia's idea towards the end about Dino-Land staying intact with Moana (or something else) as a mini-land taking over Dinorama & backstage is brilliance. Im all in with that. Also, I 100% agree with Jaalin that I'm happy DAmaro is finally getting some of the shade he deserves for while he's been running parks
I don't think anyone else has clarified this, but Porto's is a Cuban bakery and cafe with delicious food like empanadas and games and potato balls and yummy pastries and cakes! having such a Southern Californian powerhouse instead of the random places they have at Downtown Disney is super exciting! Also hyped for Din Tai Fung to be there too
Also considder that Universal is building Epic Universe with very low interest rates for borrowing to build, and Disney now will have to borrow for future growth with much higher interest rates. Disney should have started new projects three years ago. The US theme psrks wont see anything substantial for five to ten years.
I'm fine with Zootopia in DAK because even though Joe Rohde always says it doesn't fit because it's "a human story replaced by animals" and not a nature based story, I fail to see how Camp Minnie Mickey was a nature based story. Moana, however, is a terrible addition to the park that does not fit the theme at all. I wish we got an Indy South America land in Dinoland instead and put Zootopia by Rafiki's planet watch.
Exactly! A land like Lost River Delta in the space where Dinoland is would be amazing, with Indy replacing Dinosaur and then building Temple of Peril. Zootopia could be fun for educational purposes, with Judy showing us different biomes that animals live in, or fun facts about each animal type.
Overall the entire panel just felt very sloppy for whatever reason. Definitely agree that the whole Blue Sky bit at the end should’ve been set aside for another panel; and I very much share the sentiment that it’s nice to see the shift of people realizing and holding Josh accountable for this stuff more now. If this is gonna be his ‘big moment’ then he needs to own it, the good and the bad, and that includes how cohesive the final product is.
I almost don't want them to build it because they'll ruin it. It needs it's own park or maybe a big land at DHS. It'll work at MK but should enter through fantasyland, not behind a land behind another land. It was just so disappointing.
@@kristinmoore4624 I agree. A villains land would work so much more if it were more accessible and attached to the hub of MK OR as part of a new Villain/monster/Beast centered theme park.
I hated a lot when they were announcing like "new announce", an attraction that were announced a couple years ago.. I waited many years for this D23, and it was awful!
Okay second comment, I feel like Moana and Encanto are the best fits for Animal Kingdom, I feel like Moana has fun mythic animals and general nature that would fit in wonderfully and Encanto has a whole character whose whole thing is talking to animals and another character whose whole thing is creating plants and flowers, that would be so cool to see in Animal Kingdom 😍

The way he was talking he said something about ‘more is on the way’ so I’m sure they’re working on it but when an actual ride redo will happen who knows. The meet and greet is probably partial testing for that.

Every single building in the parks have always had a backstory . This isn’t a new Disney thing everything has an explanation. And only 5% of people notice or care (like myself) it’s not a big deal it’s fun
Avengers Multiverse will likely be a lot of screens, while Zootopia will be more filled with more practical sets. Not only does Disney want to put their best foot forward for the Chinese government, but if I am not mistaken, said government is also footing around half of the bill for this expansion.

They are NOT ready for Universal's Epic Universe of Epic Galactic Stars Park.... er..... Epic..... No, really, like they've been so damn quiet about how bad they are struggling, but you have to be a complete idiot to not see it after D23. Like, props to them for trying, but I "tried" and put "effort" into college and welp, that didn't go so well. So.... yeah.... Don't read this as angry, I'm more laughing like you all. But Disney needs to swallow their pride and be transparent and honest that they are not doing well, because otherwise they will have a severe downfall. History Repeats itself... that's all.
Has Disney tried to bite off more than it can chew with its transformation into a media company? The acquisitions of the Iger era (particularly Fox) saddled it with a tonne of debt, just as the pandemic shut down Disney's most reliable money generation machine: The parks. Disney has been using profits from the parks to prop up Disney+ whilst that gets going - it may be signing up record subscribers, but they're not all paying the same price. Subscribers in India get a massively discounted rate compared to USA or UK (see Mickey Views for his breakdown of this), so Disney+ isn't actually profitable yet. Along with the big tentpole releases from its studios underperforming (Lightyear), this might explain why there is so much underinvestment in the US parks. The only Disney park which is going above and beyond - which is arguably what Disney used to do - is Tokyo Disney, and that's possibly because Disney isn't paying for those improvements - it's the Oriental Land Company, which owns the park and just licenses Disney IP and Imagineering expertise.
There is no room for Coco in Epcot, and I don’t want a reskin of the boat ride. Obviously, Coco and Encanto will not be in Frontierland. Honestly, I’m curious if MK were to release an Aladdin ride if people would be so eager to say it needs to be at Epcot. These are full lands that deserve to be explored.
I had the presentation on in the background while I was working, so I wasn't really paying that much attention. I heard snippets here and there and got the feeling that there was a whole lot of nothing there. But I mean I was only half-paying attention, I was sure that after work I'd check the news and see all of the cool stuff I missed. Turns out I missed exactly nothing and there really was that little.
The non-announcements got me thinking... Was this all a ploy to get fan reaction? Are they really thinking about a fifth gate with Coco, Encanto, Villains, Moana and Zootopia as lands and wanted our reactions. Was this to keep it hidden from us until more work is done on location and infrastructure. I would see it fit in just between Magic Kingdom and Epcot. They could place it next to the monorail line and build a new hotel.
I was expecting to at least hear about Gadget's Go Coaster and the Treehouse at Disneyland. But nothing... (except new sign for Gadget's in the Toontown model). The rest of the Toontown remodel seems great though. On Tiana's ride: I like the idea of Tiana going to Mama Odie for the secret ingredient that you mentioned- seems like that might be what happens. I wonder if they won't have Dr. Facilier as a walk around character anymore since it's a new timeline? And also, is Tiana's restaurant a sure thing (not the treat shop) or are people just making up rumors?
Dark Fantasyland should be positioned at the back of Magic Kingdom (similar to Galaxy’s Edge in Disneyland) so it loops and connects to Fantasyland. Guest flow would be so much better rather than hitting a dead end at Big Thunder. I’m sick of them copying rides and just changing the IP. For example putting 3 of the same Frozen ride around the world. At least make them different! I agree Moana should be in Epcot instead of a cheap walkthrough attraction. Coco should be in Adventureland. Happily Ever After was the best announcement at D23. However I’m worried that they’ll change it too much Epic Universe is coming and they are not responding. Just like Harry Potter all over again. Epic Universe is going to be a game changer in Orlando and to be honest I can’t see them stopping! Give it 5 years and they’ll be announcing another gate next to Epic. 6 years to build a 1 minute ride is madness. It looks average at best. Waste of massive space of land. They are now 5 years minimum behind Universal after the failure of D23. Rant over 😂
Apparently Universal’s Marvel contract doesn’t allow Disney’s US parks to make Marvel-themed motion simulators, so either Disney is about to violate the contract or the Ride vehicle is just a weird coincidence.
The CEO just showed lied again about the new lands. Does he think redoing Toontown is going to be the most fantastic thing. Parents pay a lot for their children to go to Disneyland to play at their park. What happened with Tomorrowland. You are expand instead with Marvel land with a ride you were suppose to put in. The webslingers is a terrible ride and they have another with Toy Story. Why don’t they put in the roller coaster they talked about behind the old tower of terror. What about what the CEO comments about the die hard Disney fans. When Universal brings the new land it’s going to kick Disney’s ass and can’t wait. Are they going to have new rides when they make this new pier. They could have brought a larger family coaster like in toy story land. Is the Mickey/Minnie ride really worth it? Don’t think so. Disneyland is the bastard child of the Disney Parks.
Iwould take out the aquarium in Epcot and do some Moana ride thill or water ride there...then in ak where the finding Nemo theater isat. Build a new bigger and up to date aquarium.mabye themed to the aquarium in finding Dory.. imagine walking up to it with seals on one side an hearing "hi! Im sigourney Weaver" over the intercom, then have crushes coater from Paris..an then leave dinosaurand the playground alone...then maybe on the other side of Nemo doing a Zootopia land
After seeing the Blue Sky ‘plans’ for WDW, I almost lost all hope for the parks. Like you and so many others have said, the lands and parks they seem to want to put them in make no thematic sense whatsoever. Clearly 2 of the 3 lands for MK make much more sense in World Showcase in Epcot, and Moana in Animal Kingdom? Why not Adventureland in MK? Zootopia replacing Dinosaur? No way. Disney seems creatively bankrupt. I’d rather they go back to the drawing board and get it right. WDW deserves so much more than what they do often get.
