GitOps Days EMEA 2020
Day 2 Session 8
Flux v2 Everything that you wanted to know but were afraid to ask (deep dive)
Stefan Prodan
Developer Experience Engineer, Flagger Creator
Weaveworks
We are excited to share the evolution of Flux v1 from a tool that we created for our own needs, its being the foundation for our coining the term GitOps, to its current evolution as Flux v2 - a more ecosystem-facing tool that helps you get the most powerful GitOps, has better Developer Experience for troubleshooting, and leverages a toolkit that you can also build upon for your needs.
In this talk, Stefan will introduce the next major version of Flux, explain why Flux was reshaped into a composable continuous delivery solution that goes beyond Git sync to accommodate multi-tenancy, infrastructure dependencies and cluster-api fleet management.
Bio: Stefan is a Developer Experience engineer at Weaveworks and an open source contributor to cloud-native projects like Flagger, FluxCD, Helm Operator, OpenFaaS and others. He worked as a software architect and a DevOps consultant, helping companies embrace DevOps and the SRE movement. Stefan has over 15 years of experience with software development and he enjoys programming in Go and writing about distributed.

Awesome presentation and great content, I wish terminal text was larger though. It’s very hard to read from tablet screens.

I have a question: Would you choose Helm charts over manifests + kustomize overlays? I've not used Kustomize before, so I'm curious.

I would say that Helm charts and Kustomize patches are complementary, not in competition. For example, my project uses both. We have Helm charts for all deployable services and then apply Kustomize patches to make per-environment changes (memory, cpu, replicas).

Great Demo, Thanks for sharing it! I would like to bootstrap my bitbucket repository? Is that feature available right now? else is there in your pipeline to add such features?
