You, sir, are the picture of persistence...... eventually, you get stuff apart. That 9 is gonna be nice when you get it done. Guys who can still work on that older equipment are a dying breed. Watching your videos takes me way back and reminds me how much work that was compared to the high sprocket dozens of today. It's hard to believe assholes refer to your machines as junk. those scrapers are about as sweet as they come, especially for C models. Keep up the good work.

Thanks for another great video Jeff. I (as a mechanic) am lucky enough to have a friend/ mentor kind of like you, who owns a company that is similar to your in some aspects. His mentality is the same as yours, the best equipment is the stuff that’s paid for, and reliable. An “old man” as some people may call you guys (please don’t take offense, I don’t think you’re old, LoL) with knowledge like yours is irreplaceable, while the young guys are using tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars of precision gps and grading equipment on hundreds of thousands or millions of dollars of shiny new equipment, someone with with knowledge and experience like you can achieve the same grade, and you don’t have to worry about if you have a full battery or a good connection, LoL! I really enjoy your videos, knowledge, and insights. By the way, LE on bolts stands for the manufacturer Lake Erie, and if I’m not mistaken all of there fasteners are made here in the USA. Have a great day and thank you for another great video!

Jeff continues to win! Glad you got the cylinder apart without injury, air can be hairy. Hydraulic pressure is better if you've got a pump - easy to get way over 200psi Makes a mess I suppose and given the size of tthese rams wastes a lot of oil. I've just written down the reasons why you don't do it 😊😊

I would think that a slight bit of cylinder rust pitting (not too deep) isn't as bad as a scared rod because all that will happen is slight internal bypass (only in the effected area) which isn't going to be leaking out externally? May be a loss of hydraulic power but with such little pitting, my guess is that it wouldn't really be noticeable during normal operation? The only thing to worry about is if the bypass gets to the point where it will erode your wear sleeves and whatnot.

My experience with heavy equipment was mining. I know that we ran my equipment differently than you use yours. The 9s were used primarily in the cut pushing shot rock. We steered with tilt only, no clutch when pushing. Since the tilt was constantly being used, leakage around the tilt cylinder piston seals wouldn't be noticed. If the polish rod and seals were good, there wouldn't be any oil lost either. The reason I mention this is that the small amount of rust damage on the cylinder bore that did not hone out would not have mattered to us. I understand that it may be different for you though.

Le bolts are made in USA by Fontana Fasteners for Cat, John Deer and others. You can go .015" over with standard seals, the tapererd oversize head seal is almost useless your beter of machening the head to fit the o'ring face seal when .015" oversize or more specs and part numbers are in the Cat hydraulic cylinder seals guide.

That can certainly happen. I know of a header (combine to some) belonging to a mate that got struck by lightening. It fried everything, they couldn’t even start it. Of course it struck the newest of his fleet and they were parked together. Cost a bomb and they won’t know if it is any good till harvest later this year.
