Man I always enjoy your brand of honesty, tell it like it is Brother, you're preaching to the choir. Oh, and the content of your videos is pretty dang good too!
You can run “tests” till the cows come home, but the real world is where the rubber meets the road. If the fellow from Ingersoll is so proud of his product, one would think he would show greater interest in understanding/resolving the problem. Then again, maybe he already knows the marketing department got creative with the specs! Great videos!
Ingersoll has gone downhill, we bought a new mobile air setup for a 40lb jack hammer and the hammer fell apart within the first 2 hours of use. Both bolts unscrewed themselves completely then the air compressor began to have issues where the countdown for glow plugs was short and it would crank no start til the battery died. You had no way of holding the plugs a little longer like an 04 model with a key where you could override a shutdown. We fixed the manifold on the older model and left the new model with our superintendent. Let's just say the office was pissed we hated it.
The Engineer from Ingersoll should have said, unless I missed it, hey that switch is bad so and so will be contacting you today about us making that right. Then they could have had that one back for testing and given you a new one. We all know there isn't much of a chance that that is ever going to happen... Nothing beats real world testing. Maybe Harbor Freight will want to sponsor you. Keep up the good work!
Jeff you know all you need is JB weld to fix the threads 😂😂😂. I figured I'd get that in there before another armchair mechanic in kindergarten did 😂😂. Great job on the video and showing the truth always leaves hurt butt's. Hope you get your bolts and taps soon so you can be done with that part of the repair.
G'day Jeff, Really enjoyed the vid, I agree with you , its hard to find good men who will go out of their way to help nowadays. So looks like you fell on your feet this time. Jeff wins again. Lookin forward to the following episodes in this series. Respect...!
IR's Winnegar probably sits in an "Office Space" like cubicle, and doesn't have the authority to bring any expenses to the IR company. He probably as team leader stacked the design papers up in a neat stack, but has probably never worked on himself a fastener bigger than what you find on a swing set or bicycle. Your test was right on. As a shade tree mechanic have a small made in USA IR air compressor. Thanks for providing the information.
my gosh, back in the day we always used to run a three-quarter line right out of the compressor tank with a ball valve dumped about an ounce of oil down the air gun and hope for the best. The difference between a good day and a bad day was a bolt coming out. Milwaukee’s the same thing they always got some kind of gremlin lurking in them. They all circuit boards. You don’t know what they’re gonna do makes you pissed all that money.
I say if they claim that itll put out 2400 and it doesn’t do it then stand up for yourself and scream from the mountain top. And if they won’t stand by their product then out them on every avenue you have including court. Don’t let ingersol ram rod you
I knew you were addicted to "Picking Things Up, And Putting Them Down" when you bought the 336. Now look at yourself, you got a Crane, and you just can't stop...🤣
Just an idea... Next time hook a chain hoist or a come - along to the crane cable. You will know the rest. Soon the D9 will be pay her own share. Nice job 👍
Enjoyed the video as always Jeff. You would think that dude from Ingersoll would have jumped all over the trigger issue, and asked questions about the problem if he was so proud of that impact that he supposedly engineered or whatever. Most of those guys like that are full of it. The guy you called about the roller problem didn't seem to waste any time with an answer. Goes to show the night/day difference about somebody who knows something, and somebody who just is just a condescending a-hole that's only about image projection, and nothing else. I tried to help out with the rollers Jeff, but my arms weren't long enough! You should have gotten Mr. Griffy to run the crane for ya. 🐶I'm sure he would take a 🦴as wages.
You are a very talented guy 👍 I don't know how you put up with the " know it all folks " . Especially about the impact deal. Love you're channel ❤ have nothing but respect for everything you do. Pat from northwest WI
Somebody got torqued...lol Demonstrated INFERIOR RESULTS, BAD TRIGGER....CHINESIUM STUFF ISNT DURABLE.. OH WELL IR SHOULD SATISFY THE CUSTOMER..EH..? Put up ir shut up
I’m glad I never sold my old IR air drive 1” impact and try and replace it with battery power. And I agree it’s convenient with no air hoses to stretch out. But if you have to anyway.
Sooooo, Bill Winecker engineer extraordinaire, with “Ingersol Rand”…, so proud of his creation…, but wouldn’t get you dialed-up on a repair on the sticky trigger..? Hmmmmm. Kody…., owner of DCF track roller company, takes an “F’ing” call (from most likely an unknown number), while lying on a beach in Hawaii, sipping mixed drinks, and watching bikini clad women…, and gets you all dialed-in on your rollers. There you go…, it don’t get much better than that. Great video sir, Thank you. P.S., the mic is awesome…, no wind sound.., and I know it was howling…, stand-by it’s about to howl like hell tomorrow…
On your air guns put a little bit of air gun oil before and after you use them them things will last for ever I was told that by a master mechanic I work for . Never had any problems with my air guns , just regular air gun oil , little bit goes a long way
yeah but ...... Jeff , it was cloudy day , and it's supposed to be sunny warm 89 degrees with no wind ! on the third tuesday of May ! LOL Love the internet keyboard experts
If I lived nearby I'd come and give you a hand in return I'd just want you to let me do a decent pass when you were operating it, I'd love to have a go on a old school D9
Regarding your bolt repair, did you consider allen head bolts to avoid the too big of head inside the guard structure? Cannot understand why Ingersol didn't want the gun back for eval...sounded kind of high and mighty to me....thanks
Thanks for sharing the trials and tribulations with Ingersoll Rand. I was very impressed with the " we are Oh so proud of our product " that tailed off into excuses. If you were the litigious sort, all the video of Your hand, arm and wrist injuries from the sticking trigger switch should make Your lawyer drool. I have been enjoying the videos very much. Thank You Jeff. Best Wishes to everyone at Anderson Construction. #JeffWins
hi Jeff. H/D mech here, in my 30+yrs exp, air will always win every time. I've also found as you probably know, inch gun with long anvil won't have the same grunt as a short one. Thanks for the video and good luck puttin the ol girl back together. God Bless
Jeff wins....again! Used that nickle antiseize by the boxful on some big jobs when I was working! It's great stuff. Keep up the great work re assembling the old cat. G'day from Tasmania
Jeff, all these idiots will whine and complain about anything. Real world use/durability is what ultimately matters. Companies will do anything to sell a product. Keep up the best videos on RU-vid.
When you threw out that bottom roller bolt, I was sure you were going to find a hole that had been reworked where a regular bolt wouldn't fit all the way down. I'm glad that I was wrong.
I bet ingersol wishes you Never bought that impact gun. “ oh dam the trigger is sticking again, it does that”😂 calming saying it like it was designed to have that problem 😂 excellent video as always, thank you
Ya know the Ingy rand sounds like a pooter, and the harbor freight sound like a gut dumper on fast forward? That might sum up the real difference in "Performance"
So I'm no scientist, but it seems to be about converting electricity in to rotating power. Through the compressor the Hobo has a lot more electricity to turn into rotation-moment of torque-than the little battery in the IR.
Stop 🛑 it’s hammer time 🎶 Great video Jeff Going to try to make a cold start next week The snow is still knee deep to a tall assed eskimo. Jeff Wins Again 👍😁
You are right, torque is torque, from the first bolt, that battery is not at 100% capacity. So your torque numbers change. Batteries operated tools are convenient. They don’t require as much support. But if you have a big job, better bring the air, or AC electric.
Enjoying your rebuild videos Jeff. You do a lot of work by yourself and I appreciate the effort and energy it takes to get these jobs done by yourself. Have to tear into my D7e before to long. I have a final drive that’s lost some teeth. Think it’s coming from the reduction gear but haven’t torn anything apart yet. I don’t have the tools so may have to call in some help for this one unless I pull the sprocket and cover off as a unit and assess from there. Curious if you have used any of the aftermarket final drive parts. Costex(CTP) is substantially cheaper then cat. I have decent luck with their stuff in the past but you’re always wondering if it’s a mistake when you put the order in.
the guy from IR clearly isn't in the marketing dept... missed opportunity for IR to show some customer support and either fly out and see what's wrong or send you a new one and get the POS back and see why it's not working Its missed opportunities like this that just blow your mind as a CEO
25:56 TTC has capability to test both directions. I have not watched in a while but I know they have tested left hand before. Just a matter of changing the bolt. Think they were using 1" hardware. Not sure how common a left hand threaded nut and bolt combo are. One think I learned from TTC is the time it takes. Peak torque frequently takes 15 or more seconds. That's a lot longer than most of us hammer on something.
Seems like IR should at least be worried about an injury lawsuit because of a sticking trigger. I'd make a video specifically for the IR problems. Show the IR twirly-bird runaway special in all its glory.
Rigg a chain hoist from the hook of the Crain instead of that lifting chain. then you can position the load then lower it into place with the chain hoist.
Hey "Harbor Fright" may be cheaper but they are really good tools. The old adage that you get what you pay for. I like "HARBOR FREIGHT TOOLS" ARE good tools so it is not hobo freight. Ingersol sucks
27mm is just a cunt hair (actual military term) larger that one inch, I'm hoping I can just tap the holes to metric and be done with it, what are my chances? LOL
Increased air pressure absolutely increases the torque capacity of impact guns. What peaked interest in the correlation between air pressure and torque with pneumatic impact guns was watching my friend trying to rotate his tires on his duramax pickup. This was probably 10 years ago and he was using an earthquake 1/2" drive impact and he was unable to remove the lugnuts with the gun. He then took the jack handle and placed it over a breaker bar for leverage and the snap-on breaker bar broke before the lugnuts. I walked over to his air compressor and it was shutting off at 125 psi so I removed the cover from the pressure switch and adjusted it to shut off at 150 psi and he was then able to easily remove the lugnuts with the impact. So after coming to the conclusion that more is better when it comes to air pressure and impact guns I decided to see how much is better. I decided to increase pressure 50 psi at a time as I tried to tighten or break varying sized bolts. The test subject was a brand new earthquake impact that top of the line at the time and air pressure was supplied from a composite wound high pressure gas cylinder and it was filled with 6000 psi of compressed air. After 200 psi I decided against holding the impact by hand so I hose clamped a piece of angle iron to the handle of the impact and I used a length of 1\16" steel cable to activate the trigger at a distance of 8 feet. I made a loop around the trigger and used a pulley mounted to the angle iron to change the direction of pull. Torque output noticeably increased each time the pressure was increased by 50 psi. The highest pressure I achieved through the impact was 450 psi and the impact exploded after 2-3 seconds of operation. My regulator was rated for a maximum regulated output pressure of 2000 psi and It would be a pleasure to test pneumatic impacts up at 2000 psi.
@@Jpaydirt What model Ingersoll Rand impact do you have? I have the 9691 which is rated at 3000 ft lb of nut busting torque and only 2200 ft lb of tightening torque. When I was deciding on which w9000 series impact to purchase I was comparing the w9491 with the w9691 and I was trying to figure out why the w9461 only had 2600 ft lb of nut busting torque and the only real difference is the 6" extended anvil. My guess is that the added weight of having the 6" extended anvil aids in breaking loose fasteners.
I just cringed when you got done with the rollers and then talked about how you were going to have to drill out the stripped holes for the guards. Ugh, it would be worlds easier if you had left the rollers off so you could use a mag drill to drill those and then use the mag drill with a center drill to support and keep the tap straight when starting. If a larger hex bolt won't fit, how about a socket head cap screw?
4/21/24..yo Jay PD, Am not a diesel or HvyEquip guy but watch & learn from you & many of your 'Dozer' guys that perform this work ( ole' Warren at Western Truck & Tractor, C&C, Diesel Creek etc). You are relaxing to watch & listen to your .. Idaho? ..well measured speech & humor. Seems you have figured out best utilization your 'new' IR Cordless/airless Battery ++Torque Hammer Impact tool. I was plesantly surprised at HbrFrt tool results, but glad it did whst you need...cant have D9 undercarriage bolts 'fallinout' now can we? Ok...looking for yur next video. Stay safe & carry on!💪⛓️🪝⚙️🍺😊
Here's the real deal with battery power Jeff. In all the batteries there's a charge time chip installed on the board from power tools to laptops. What the chip does is counts down the charge time till it reaches 60 to 50 percent then it stops charging. Then when the battery is recycled it's shipped back to China where all they do is reinstall the batteries in a NEW housing with a new board with count down time chip and thier resold as NEW. They will do this 4 times before they finally recycle the batteries.👉👉So just because the batteries look new doesn't mean there are you could have a battery that's on it's 4 trip back to resale.
Great video buddy thanks for sharing you can bet your butt those companies use that rating system to fudge the numbers in their favor and advertising you can’t trust any of them until you personally use the product and see 😢it’s sad
The question that needs to be asked of the engineer from IR. The cad modeling is great however did he actually ever operate the product? Jeff what is your experience with copper based anti seize if you have used the product?
If your ever in that situation again trying to put something down wile in a crane....get some barn twine and run it to the cab and you can pull on either side to adjust them wile your letting them down.
Jeff causing "my camp is better" division in the torque driver community again. ;) Was the battery powered unit faulty? Maybe that specific one was, maybe the max torque rating is made under certain conditions through a series of equations rather than putting actual twist to bolt or stud. Maybe the rating is just to tighten while loosening is significantly less to half the max rating for reasons I'm not engineer enough to outline. I don't know the answer. Just what was seen and recorded.
Good for you Jeff doing your own test with the IR. People like their stats but you're right, if it doesn't work then it doesn't work. 👍. What a pain with those snap rings, you might as well just cast your own friggin rollers from scratch next time.
For putting bigger bolts in the rock guards you could possibly get 12 point headed bolts for a smaller socket size or socket head. If they were 1” bolts to start with running a 25mm drill in there might be challenging as it’s going to be pretty close to hole size. Good luck Jeff will win
I worked on a 46A that was wobbling in the Ocean and the roller frame bolts were never taken out. We used a 21 ft. Pipe to break the bolts loose, but broke all 56 bolts off and used a magnetic drill press to drill out the bolts and had a welder blow out the rest and chiseled out the rest to the threads. What a mess and then used never seize on all the bolts when we put it back together.
Thx Jeff,I do enjoy your time spent and your honesty! Don’t listen to the BS ers there a dime a dozen and as long as they don’t have to look you in the face they’ll say just about anything as long as they don’t have to back it up
If you are anything like me, I bet you figured out the quickest and easiest way to grind those snap rings down right around the time you got down to two left to do. Maybe the front will fall off of that Ingersol and they will tell you to take it outside the environment, that seems to be where his conversation went. thanks for the videos, Jeff.
Hey up mate when you said of needing help was wondering why you were using the lovely Gallion rather than you remote control service truck good to see that you switched over later, also why not change those clips did kody not surgest that, anyway another good video thanks and good luck with that fool from inger/rand
