It's bad enough she did what she did. It's worse that the police backed down here. Sure, she got a ticket but she should have been arrested for fleeing and obstruction. But she wasn't. Anyone of us regular folks would be in jail facing felony charges. Typical.
Steve said the DA pled guilty in court next day. What's the point if the police back down talking to a belligerent DA if she's still going to get in trouble for it?
If the District Attorney themselves doesn't go to jail for refusing to pull over, *NOBODY should go to jail for refusing to pull over.* The complete lack of integrity undermines their own authority.
It kills me that most are not aware that the DA Prosecutor has ABSOLUTE Immunity. Sure wish people would look this up! Look it up and then you have the why.
DAs in NY are elected officials, they just can't be fired. Im sure there is a process outside of voting but, that would take months or more to get done. Even if she is removed she can run in the next election and probably win because voters vote party , don't pay attention to the news and probably couldn't tell who the DA is.
She refused to resign stating that people should look at her prosecution record. She's been in the job for 30 years. She said in an interview that she just panicked, there's no excuse for her actions. She also stated that she took responsibility for her actions and paid the fine. She came off as having a heavily scripted interview with heavy splicing and editing. It was more like a press release giving an excuse by saying there's no excuse. She was adamant that what she did was something that she should have never been asked publicly about.
I've seen the video, here are the highlights: Fleeing and eluding, resisting/delay/obstruct without violence, reckless driving, excessive speeding, failure to show ID. Admitted she was guilty, admitted she knew she was being pulled over and ignored it, admitting to corruption (to prosecute herself?!?). *They should have done a felony stop on her.* She needs to be fired, disbarred, and imprisoned for this blatant tyranny and corruption!
She said she wasn't going to stop on that main road. I caught that to mean, she didn't want to be on public display being pulled over. She deserves to be arrested with a hearing!!
She didn’t get hauled out onto the sidewalk, have a gun pulled on her, have her door kicked down, get put in jail and forced to bail out. The DA AND the cop and chief of police all need to be fired and charged with official corruption.
The chief was kind of in a tough spot. It was not his stop and he told the officer its his decision because its his collar, and the chief told the officer he supports whatever decision the officer makes. I never got the impression the chief was at all covering and in fact was pretty much telling the DA she messed up badly. The chief did not want to impose on his officers ability to choose is what I got from that interaction. Honestly the chief played this one pretty well because it's bad enough that one of his officers makes an enemy of the DA's office but a whole different situation if the chief (meaning the entire PD) does. At the end of the day they have to work together. I am betting the police released the video in hopes it would go viral because now that its in the public eye I doubt this lady will be keeping her job, and may in fact possibly painted a target on her back for the State Bar to sanction her. Her behavior was entirely unforgivable for an officer of the court.
@@larrybremer4930 He wasn't, and I've worked in the area, the chief is the exact same brand of POS that Doorley is. The leak is more likely from staff at the town than the police. Also, as she's elected it's up to the voters to keep her, and she ran unopposed last term. Plus "Patrick Reilly, the Monroe County Republican chairman, says the party continues to fully stand behind Doorley."
Twenty MPH over the limit is reckless driving in my state. At least there is hope that this DA will not be reelected. Her next opponent might use the video in campaign ads.
If it had been a civilian they’d have been potentially exposed to the following 1. Rammed of the road 2. Guns drawn 3. Tackling and demanding to stop resisting 4. Cuffed and charged with fleeing and alluding Possibly….
This is exactly why we the people do not trust the injustice system. I noticed she did not add the charge of eluding law enforcement, a felony, and plead guilty. She damn well would not have been so generous to one of us peons.
I've seen about a 30 min. bodycam video of the incident. She was belittling the officer, tried to abuse her authority, said she would be prosecuting the ticket, and caused a total of 6 officers to respond. All of this is for a minor traffic infraction. This warrants more charges, a bar complaint, and immediate removal of office. This display of impropriety and general attitude about her power to outright break the law with impunity is sick.
This DA should have been arrested for a class A misdemeanor and the fact that she wasn't just proves how corrupt the system is, because if you or I did this, we would have been arrested.
If I was the chief once I heard she refused to stop and had that attitude I would tell my officer arrest her Charge her with all applicable offenses. I’ll back you 100%!!!!
Yep. No backing for his staff. If it was any other person the chief would have said arrest her for failing to produce her license. He needs sacking for his gutless handling of the situation. The officer was not at fault.
Us peasants would have been cuffed and stuffed. The following charges would have been made. Failure to yield, leaving the scene, speeding and being a douche. She’ll get off easy because she is the “DA!”
"Cuffed and stuffed". 😄 That phrase brings back old memories of Sheriff Roscoe P. Coltraine on the Dukes of Hazzard chasing them Duke boys around the county.
I've seen the video. Her sense of entitlement is beyond belief. She has to know that the cop is wearing a bodycam, and apparently doesn't care. She lied continually. She said she didn't hear or see the siren and flashing lights, but she called the chief while the officer pursued her. Then she laughingly told him that ife she got a ticket, she would be prosecuting herself, with the indication that she could 'fix' her own ticket. Then she went to court the next day to pay. NOBODY gets a next day court date. She was trying to shut down the negative attention when the police video went absolutely viral. Her disrespect for the police, and trying to use her position to get out of her wrongdoing, is unethical.
Because the District Attorney didn't pull over, which is an arrestable crime, and was not arrested and cooling her heels in jail to face the judge as an officer of the court, it is proof that she IS above the law. Not only did the police out her as corrupt, they outed themselves.
Abuse of office, fleeing and eluding, resist obstruct delay... she should have the book thrown at her. Clearly, she believes in a two tiered justice system.
At one point she is even on camera saying, "something to the effect of "I'll take the ticket, I'll be prosecuting it, so I'll handle that." Basically implying she would not pursue the ticket in court against herself. She absolutely was going to be corrupt and later remembered it's all on body camera and tried to pay the ticket so her behavior wouldn't get out. Any other person would have been tased and in jail for doing what she did. She got special treatment and you can tell from her attitude she is not used to being told no. She's a priviledged corrupt official and needs gone from public office.
To say this woman got away with a lot is an understatement. I heard of a case not so long ago about an 18 year old girl, who was dragged out of her car, and slammed on the floor, because she did not produce her license fast enough.
So tired of the double standards. If I did this - a common citizen - I would have been arrested with multiple charges filed, spent many thousands of dollars in legal fees and eventually convicted on a couple of charges. My life would have been severely impacted, would have lost my job, lost any opportunity to replace that job and income, and would have a record for life. This DA walks away with almost no penalty. She should immediately resign and forfeit her pension. If I lived in her district I would not want to be funding her life after retirement.
I saw the video yesterday and she is acting like a whining toddler. She should be ashamed of herself. It's disgusting that this woman is in a position of authority.
If I did that, they would kick in my door with guns drawn and five cops would take me to the ground and charge me with so many crimes my head would spin
Absolutely correct keeping her distance from all and running in the house? What did she place in her mouth to neutralize her breath when she was out of camera range?
I knew a Jordanian police officer. First day on the job he pulls over their prosecutor, who asks to be let off. When the officer refuses, the prosecutor threatened him "do you want to end your career on your first day?" He wrote the ticket. Less than a minute later he's radioed to return to the station where prosecutor and his chief are waiting, he assumed he was done. They heartily congratulated him, explaining they did this to new officers, and that he would've been fired if he had not written the ticket. The prosecutor even paid the fine (like $10 IIRC)
Except it doesn’t. Pleading guilty to the speeding doesn’t dispose of the other offenses. They should now bring in a special prosecutor or grand jury to see what else there’s probable cause to charge her with, and then charge her with it. If they don’t it means they’re all corrupt.
@@EarthIsNotFlat I can assure you, Mr legal genius, that part of her guilty plea was an agreement for no additional charges. Why do you think that she pleaded guilty the following day?
@@jonpender The judge isn’t bound by any such agreement (not only because it’s an agreement with herself but because judges aren’t generally bound by a prosecutor’s plea recommendation.) but also because they don’t generally write plea agreements to cover ‘any other crimes you might’ve committed that night’ (otherwise it’d have list specifically what crimes they are dismissing, otherwise such dismissal isn’t effective, and in any case without allocation it’s pretty much worthless anyway.) Genius. She likely pled guilty to the speeding offense in the hopes of looking like she’s taking responsibility and possibly in the hope that everything else would just blow over (and that nobody would bother to push the felonies she’s guilty of, and that she couldn’t ’agree not to prosecute’ since that would be a blatant and utterly agreement-invalidating conflict of interests… You can’t have an enforceable contract with yourself and if you tried anyway it’d just collapse into a legal nullity.)
@@EarthIsNotFlat how do you know that the judge didn’t sign off on the agreement? I would make a bet with you that there will be no further charges but I suspect that you are insolvent.
@@jonpender Lol, so now you’re not only making legal guesses about stuff you have no first or even second-hand knowledge of (and little to no legal knowledge about) now you’re also making incorrect assumptions about my solvency too? Going off all half cocked now seems to be an established pattern for you… I bet you’re right though that there won’t be further charges, but not because of any carefully written plea agreement openly considering and preemptively blanket dismissing an indeterminate number of felonies that’s so broadly and/or non-standardly written as to cover literally ANY crime she committed that night up to including murder OR that would specifically spell out the very felonies she’s purporting to let herself off the hook for (which would both an impressive bit of speed-lawyering and would be quite contrary to the whole ‘deal with it fast to get it out of the public eye asap’ that trying to brush it off the next morning implies.)
Even though the officer didn't give her the preferential treatment she was demanding, he actually kind of did. Because if you or I'd have behaved like she did, we'd have been tased (or maybe even shot), violently handcuffed, dragged to the police cruiser and hauled downtown to spend the night in jail.
It would have been a lot smarter to just accept a speeding ticket nicely and abuse her position in the court house. I guess corruption doesn’t come with a side of common sense.
If she just pulled over and dint do this most likely nothing would have come of it. Once the cops or someone realized who it was probably let go with nothing.
If she doesn't immediately resign, the necessary actions should be initiated to have her removed from office. In addition, charges of resisting arrest and official misconduct should be filed. The state bar should initiate action to suspend her law license pending investigation. The police should also be reprimanded, especially the Chief of Police.
This is an example of our judicial branch of government. I beleive it's typical of our local smaller town governments. She should be jailed and terminated and her license to practice law revoked due to her abuse and misuse. FTP
Just watching the video of that DA is disgusting. I just wonder how many people she has prosecuted for evading cops on a traffic stop. I bet she had no sympathy for them. This woman should not be a DA!
Looks like the D.A. needs to be fired, permanently disbarred, banned from jury duty, and banned from being within 900 feet of the courthouse for ANY reason. If the only pharmacy in town is within 900 feet of the courthouse, someone will have to pick up her prescriptions for her unless the pharmacy arranges for delivery.
Lose her job , lose her law license, trial for her charges she should have received. A blatant abuse of power . Should be no where near authority over the public
If it was an average person, there would have been an immediate scuffle and arrest for fleeing. That cop KNEW who she was, and the restraint he showed to her would NEVER, EVER have been extended to ANY average person! Yet she has the AUDACITY to complain about a ticket. Shows you just how much they still protect each other. What a publicity stunt this is!
How does it look when they cut slack for the DA or off duty cop? Same as it looks when politicos break the law without consequences or when executives have their corporations break the law and no one goes to jail. It looks like two justice systems, harsh as hell for peasants and complete immunity for "important people". The opposite of democracy or equality.
Had this been anyone else we'd be in handcuff and fingerprinted and maybe in a few days a judge might see us. She should have been arrested as NOBODY should be above the law. But as we've seen time and time again, certain people feel they are and if they, like this lady, are powerful enough they are.
It is rather difficult to believe this doesn't occur all over the country and we are only seeing a fleeting glimpse. Hence no one trusts the system or those who purport to uphold it.
Law enforcement and the courts should be far, far tougher on those trusted to enforce and execute laws. This woman sees herself as above the law. Clearly. She thinks the thin blue line surrounds her and holds her above others.
If she "knows the law better than you" she will know that perverting the course of justice is far more serious than merely speeding or failing to stop.
An Austin, Texas D.A. Rosemary Lehmberg was arrested for drunk driving. She took full responsibility for her actions (Paid her fine, did 45 days in jail and went to rehab). Contrary to this D.A. who held herself above the law.
this was almost buried - happened on a Monday, started to be known on Wednesday, some local news mentioned it on Thursday then the body cam came out Friday - that passes for transparency
It's discusting the way she behaves she should of been arrested... people of her district should be protesting out side of her office for her to be prosecuted and step down... two tier justice
*YOU KNOW* what's crazy? Court officials being elected by the public in the United States. That means you can get anyone who wants to run because they're on a power trip, or corrupt, or think it's a cushy position. Elected only by those motivated enough to bother voting.
@@user-dh6bj2me5p You're on a futile mission. People don't care about correct spelling or grammar or writing comprehensible sentences. They think if you understand what they're saying that's good enough. No intellectual integrity or discipline. I used to teach writing in grad school (yes, something they should have learned long before that) and saw it every single day.
Everyone eligible for jury duty in that county should be made aware, and make clear that they won’t convict anyone until she is fired, at the very least.
She should have been arrested on the spot for fleeing and been charged with the maximum charges. have a great day, she knows the law and should expect all the charges.
The voting public probably doesn't even know who she is. People vote party. They also have short memories. By election time if they did know about it , they would most likely have forgotten about and just vote who's ever in their party
@CraigGrant-sh3in people locally know who she is. And she has swapped parties recently. She usually runs without opposition. I am curious to see how this pans out. Due to the party switch I doubt anyone's going to really stick their neck out for her - in fact the city council came together across party lines to ask the state AG to investigate and that will only prolong the negative publicity.
I saw this video. What Steve didn't mention is what she said several times. (Paraphrasing) "I would be prosecuting myself, so I will be throwing this out." Disturbingly corrupt. She should be investigated.
She did get slack - she should have been locked up for felony fleeing and eluding, her car should have been towed, her license should have been revoked, and she should have been fired.
The entitlement is just insane ! Then she states how well she knows the law and she doesn’t seem to understand she has even less excuses for her breaking the speed laws and refusing to stop when required by the officer is too stupid for words ! She needs to spend a few days in jail to remind her of REALITY ! This is disgusting behavior by a disgusting person ! 🙏🏼🇺🇸🙏🏼
She should be charged with eluding arrest , if she fixed her own ticket there has to be a charge for that and she should be fired and lose her pension.
She obviously doesn't care when she breaks the law, I must assume she doesn't care about others who break the law. She needs to be fired and her law license needs to be suspended.
She didn't care but the Rochester city council cared enough to write AG Leticia James to call for an investigation of the DA... Do you think she cares now? 🤔😎
About 30 years ago I saw a newspaper article written about an OffDuty officer, driving his personal car was stopped for speeding (I don't remember exactly but it was something egregious like 75 in a 35 zone). He flashed his badge and asked what is the problem. He was given a VERBAL WARNING and let go as a professional courtesy.
This is a local matter for us. She "didn't want to stop" was what she said. Who does...??? Now us locals have come up with the latest in defenses to use in court. It us called the Doorley Defense. After the DA Sandra Doorley. Can you imagine it... Your Honor, I'm claiming the Doorley Defense. I just didn't want to stop. You can bet that us voters won't forget this piece of work come the next election. Then again, my fellow citizens seem to have short memories.
Since you’re local ,as I then you know many area depts have a NO chase policy. A 14y/o Kia boy can drive his stolen car recklessly at a marked RPD car and they do nothing per dept policy this in fact is a regular occurrence same for the Sheriffs ,all you have to do is step,on the gas and their supervisor will call it off . Hang out your stolen car with a gun ,again a fairly common thing and perhaps they may chase ,but it’s so little a risk ,which is why it’s become a daily thing .
Ifyoure part of the justice system, your penalties should be double if you commit a crime. You have to give something up if you want to rule over the populace. Same with politicians
It seems everyone is ignoring the cop telling her if she had stopped it would have been no big deal and she would have been let go , and she got all kinds of slack .
