Great alternative to a full install or backup solution for those tinking about a van build or upgrade or who just use it for weekends away and a work van in the week.
wow John it doesn’t seem two minutes ago that the AFERIY Portable Power Station 2400W was the dogs nuts. Technology is marching on but I’d still like to see how these units sit between the front seats or in front of them when swivelled. I’ve just come back from eleven weeks in the Alps 🏂 and this is where such a unit would sit for me and no doubt others. Cheers Michael.
Thanks for the update John - the Dabbsson looks an amazing bit of kit, and great to see how such integrated power options are rapidly improving and dropping (relatively) in price.👍 On that note, I am pleased to see Jackery FINALLY offering LiPO4, which hopefully will increase competition over time, and bring prices down further...
Mmm, interesting, especially as I've just won the Dabbsson 1300 in a Dave one man and his whippet draw, I may be asking questions at some point, thanks for posting this vlog John... 😊
Thank you it’s now on my amazon list , it Looks a nice unit John just 278 days to Christmas buddy 😂 .I wonder why I persevered with all my electrics when you see it all in one box ,it’s sort of madding , although Iv learned a lot along the way And I can fix it , but a great back up good luck merry Christmas 👍👍👍🏴🏴🇬🇧🇨🇦🦢.
Hi John, sorry for what might seem like a negative comment but just wanted to say that if your little outlet there is rated at 30A then irrespective of what the individual loads are you need to make sure that the cable you are using is also rated above 30A. I can’t quite gauge off the video what size cable you are using although it does look like a flexible cable. I think you would probably need a 4mm cable to be safe
It’s not a negative comment, but the cable rating is suitable for the load over the distance of the cable. I’ve got a video all about cable rating and how to calculate it.
Hi john i bought one of these late last year after one man and his whippets reviewed one .£1059 been cant fault it ive even plugged my mig welder into it never lets me down BRILLIANT BIT OF KIT and i did the victron charger setup into the solar when you first showed that cheers
Hi John wondered if you can help please. We have the Dabbsson power bank and we have an error E01 and we need advise what to do as Dabbsson. Manual is very unhelpful. Many thanks
problem, I’ve got at the moment when the lithium battery is fully charged the BMS switches the battery off and then the Victron charger is not connected to a battery well still connected to the solar panels and crashes. I have to disconnect it from the battery and the solar panel And reconnect and it takes awhile and a few attempts before the Victor charger comes back to life.❤
informative and tempting. why not, for those with the money to spend. high end luxury stuff has always been an integral side of your set up. how about making videos on cheaper alternatives, running appliances while the van engine is running for example. (Leisure battery to fuse to split charger then to any power hungry appliance DC or AC via inverter.
Hi John, If you were to build your own power station, do you think it would be more efficient and less expensive than ready-made ones? What components would you use? (e.g., inverter watt capacity, charge controller Amps size, battery capacity, and solar panel wattage) It would be an interesting and informative guide if you made a video about it, considering your gadget experience and the number of systems you've installed and tested.
The 12v full system in my campervan cost around £2.5k and the power station is currently half that cost with 95% of the power of my 12v system. So there’s no chance you can build your own power station for less.
I'm not a neat & tidy person, I like safe & functional, so I don't hide cables as then you can't see if there's a problem. The DBS2300 is my main source for A/C power but it's also a great total backup power solution too.
Hi John, with the right cable could I plug this into the EHU on the van and run the 230v sockets and fridge on electric in the van providing I was recharging it with solar? Or have I misunderstood?
Hi John, I hope you and Mandy are doing ok. Can I ask if you have replaced the Aferiy permanently now? I was very impressed by that when you reviewed it a while back and had the intention of buying one for my next build. Does this one beat it or would you still go with the Aferiy? Many thanks for any advice, all the best both, Richard
A great video - you've convinced me to bin my Ecoflow (poor 12v outlet options). Being somewhat of a novice - if you use the Dabbsson Anderson 30amp outlet to a fused 12v supply panel - would you suggest also running a negative earth point to the van chassis or would it be sufficient running to the negative Anderson point on the DBS2300? I've just purchased the same unit, as like you I need the app control due to it's final location.
Hi John I have just got my Dabbson 2300wh power station and can't wait to use it. I'm new motorhomer so trying to learn fast. I have 240v modem and 240v fire stick how will the power station power these if I'm off grid. Do I just plug an extention into the ac plug sockets ?
Sorry new to motorhoming. I plugged 13amp dual plug extention into one of the AV plugs on power station to power my WiFi router and fire stick . 230v each but the power button kept pulsing then went off. Hope this makes more sense John
Hi John will we be able to fully charge x2 504wh e-bike batteries from this at the same time? And if we do will there be scope to power any other appliances before we have to fully charge the unit again via a mains supply?
You’d need to check the battery chargers spec to see if they are within the 2kw limit of the power station. The power station has 2330wh of power, so you could charge your e-bike battery 4 times and have a little spare, but you need to know what you’re powering to know how long the battery will last.
@@GadgetJohn thank you for replying 👍with regard to the battery charger spec what specifically is it that I'm checking? What info am I looking for that tells me the battery charger is within the 2kw you mention? Trying my best to understand if a power pack (and more importantly this one specifically)will enable our e-bikes to be fully charged before I make the purchase as the charging of the bikes would be the main use of the unit.
Sorry - i know this is likely a stupid question 😫 i have a tyre inflator which runs off my car cigarette lighter no probs. I thought it would be able to power it off my ecoflow delta mini cigarette lighter - but there isnt enough power being fed to it 😫 any ideas because my van cigarette lighter is far to far away to use the inlfator if i ever need to inflate a rear tyre!
Not all power stations have enough power going to the 12v cig socket, some say 10 amps but most are 8 amps and that's not enough for a tyre inflator as the internal compressor motor will surge as it starts.
They are more efficient overall but not that common in leisure vehicle setups. Cabling is better on 48v and batteries are smaller & lighter. I’m not aware of anywhere near the same number of product options though.
I have an Ecoflow and tbh I am disappointed with it. they seem to be not as reliable as some and there are others providing better value for money now.
@@GadgetJohn ah yes I’ve just noticed the other comment. BTW my 1200w Aferiy actually runs a new Russell Hobbs 1350w air fryer I bought… all be it at a slightly reduced power of 1250w, my only gripe with the Aferiy is the battery doesn’t appear to last more than about 3 days “ and that’s with me turning it off after each use”…and I always charge it to 100%🤷🏻♂️
Code no longer working but there is £444 off so this is now £1150 which is even more of a bargain!. I have the same Battery and inverter as John has and yes it's expensive kit!
John. Good vid. May i ask which one has hit all the buttons for powerstations. Youve reviewed and used, allpowers s2000, bluetti recently and i know youve had ecowflow delta and the bigger Gear with crap after service, which actually put me of ecoflow, so you saved my pocket. Im curious to know your answer, i do appreciate that the answer may change, because products are improving iber months these days. Lifepo4 is the current best on the market, Id not touch jackery due to low availabe power plus their price and functionality. Allpowers are good but limited app functions to monitor. Also it may not be approprite for your system, im considering tapping a 13amp power lead to the back of shore power inlet, with plug into my s2000 AP. I belieeve that theres no conflict because the van is more than, capable of being powered by a normal shore power cable direct to any power station. Do you consider this a value project or do you envisage a tech issue. The cable would plug directly into 230 socket but when not in.use into a dud, socket housing. I want eliminate the need for a camping shore power cable. Your opinion and answers are appreciated and i wish Mandy our very best. Chin up to you at this dificult time
So far the DBS2300 is by far the best for what you get in this small package. I don't see any issues wiring the mains cable directly to a hookup outlet on the outside of your van and then connecting the hookup on campsites would recharge the power station and would provide 240v from the campsite through the DBS2300 sockets.
@@GadgetJohn thanks for reply. It's always good to sound ideas out. I doubt I'd buy the DBS this year, I've 6 s2000 AP with 2 used in van. But I'm always looking at new market projects and I've just watched the DYU T1 video and it's looking like bit of cash is leaving my pocket this week. Thanks again
I have a question John. If I'm ever in a position financially to be able to convert a van, can I hire you to convert it, because I trust your knowledge and ability more than any other converter on RU-vid...Plus I'd want a 'Poo Palace' like yours. lol
I think we're at the point now where even as an expert, why would you bother building a system? . If you want more backup, a smaller version of the same thing and you're still under £2k with plenty of capacity.
I agree, with these well spec'd power stations coming in at such low prices, compared to the cost of building your own equivalent separate system, add the nice compact size and reliability and it's definitely the way forward for those who don't want to learn all the electrical skills.
look back at johns videos when a different brand powerstation nearly caused a fire in his van. Separates for me, one thing goes wrong you can replace it and not lose everything.
