I see that not having the rest of him hasn't lowered the amount of sass that Dabchick holds within his tiny avian form. Turns out it was all in his head.

Packaging it like a blow up doll with the caption "Mess me up like your 3D printer" is so deliciously vindictive, I love it. Hope the guy grows a conscience and refunds you but experience tells me not to hold my breath. Wish you and Dabchick good luck.

I think the moral of the story is, unfortunately, don't cheap out on high-precision equipment. Resin printers have gotten relatively cheap and non-fussy in recent years that the problems in these series of videos should really not be happening at this frequency. I recently upgraded to a Photon M5S from my old Photon S, and 9 times out of 10 the prints are perfect. And when they aren't, it has always been human error when setting up the files in the slicer. It's also Auto-Leveling, so I never have to worry about that again.

Seeing this journey makes me so glad I had the opportunity to buy my Formlabs printer back in 2016. So many of the issues and maintenance required of even modern budget printers are completely alien to me. Between never having to level print surfaces, having a solid acrylic and silicone resin tray bottom, and only having optical print issues due to excessive dust, it would take a lot for me to move away from Formlabs machines in the future. BTW this isn't a Formlabs shill kind of thing, I use my Form 2 on a daily basis to print highly detailed dice for use in handmade dice molding and casting. Been doing so for almost four years now and have put thousands of hours into the machine as part of my small business.

With all the trouble of this old 3d printer, I would recommend just buying new. It feels like you're falling to the sunken cost trap with this thing and I think you'll save money by just getting a new one.

if you do end up casting Dabchick in epoxy resin after 3D printing, I would recommending sealing the 3D printed model *extensively*, else it’ll fuck up the epoxy something fierce and keep it from curing properly

Your patience is remarkable, I would have taken a hammer to that a while ago.

My number one bit of advice: Don't use chitubox. Lychee is far better. I don't think it slices quite as fast but I've never had a failure using Lychee, even when Lychee freaks out about errors in the model it can't patch. Not that that'll solve the problem of the backlight being buggered. I'd guess the backlight is fine but it's been drowned in now-cured resin. There's _really_ not much to the average resin printer. They're electronically and mechanically so much simpler than an FDM printer. Just a UV light, a screen for masking, a stepper-motor and threaded rod for raising the plate, a controller, and the vat and FEP sheet. That's it. If it were a brand new printer out of the box and you were having these troubles, I'd say there'd be a vanishingly small chance it was the machine's fault, but given the state it came to you in, anything is possible.

I know the Halot One is a tricky beast. If you happen to see this, I recommend leveling with two sheets of printer paper. Anything thinner and every print I did would fail.

I mean you could probably hit Creality up, they send printers to creators lol About the FEP, usually the best practice is not to touch it at all unless necessary as it scratches with everything, even paper. You can tension it like you tune a drum, lightly hitting it ehile looking at a spectrum analyzer (hundreds of apps that do it) and looking on forums what a good "note" is for your specific printer, in Hz. Too loose will distort the stuff you print, too tight and it doesn't "bend" upwards letting the parts release from it. It's more of an art than a science :D

Try do a print test with a white piece of paper over the screen to see if it is the printer screen is showing the right image on it. If the printer screen is okay, then try changing the build plate.

Its just sat in my office. i upgraded to a faster mono printer. anyhoo...its yours if you want it...100% free and ill even come and set it up and help you get a print out of it. its not even heavily used tbh

Did you ever try my suggestion videos back when you first tried for rubbing alittle bit of silicon oil on the fep, This is a HUGE upgrade for your printing.

I got into resin printing maybe a week after your first video on this dabchick rebuild and you getting your printer, but I have been into FDM printing for 7 or so years so its not too hard of change to make. Tips I have change your slicer software to chitubox you can place custom supports and its just a great program for being free. As for the FEP, DO NOT push down like that on the bottle cap. Thats not a good idea. On the leveling side I dont think you brought it down far enough. The paper should have some resistance to it. The way I do it is put the paper down, loosen the leveling screws, 0 out the z axis which will bring the build plate as low as it can, and then put a little bit of pressure on the top of the build plate then tighten up the screws. Also shake your resin before pouring it into the vat. But what you did by getting rid of the printer was the right call. Never buy a used resin printer. I have an anycubic photon mono 2 and its alright. Anycubic has bad quality control so when I got it I had a couple small issues like poorly threaded screws that I was able to fix. If I were to buy another printer I would go with elegoo just based off everything I have heard. My second choice would probably be a creality printer just not a used one.
