Brilliant video , just answered all my questions. Also been obsessed with mph per 1000 revs in top since motor magazine used to quote it in road tests and as a driver I discovered how relevant it was to quiet cruising and fuel econony. Really good video, thank you.

Thanks so much for this it's just what I needed. Just ordered my Bifuel Prestige Duster this morning and was worrying a bit as to whether I should have gone for a bigger engine. This has put me at ease. Thanks so much! I ordered the Arizona Orange, I fancied a bit of a change from the dark colours I usually go for. Can't wait to get it.

Ah! You went for the orange James. I did think about it but Mrs Wife wouldn't forgive me 🙂 I've just turned 14,000 miles in mine with 90% of the time spent at 70mph on the motorway with no trouble at all. We're going on an epic four day road trip in May to Bodo which is in the top end of Norway so it'll get a serious run then. I'm taking Mrs Wife's 2019 1.6 Prestige and my son is driving mine. No doubt there'll be another video to follow that trip 🙂

I have just bought a 2023 Sandero Bi-fuel. It has a 5 speed gearbox but also has Eco mode which when engaged on the motorway brings the revs down a fair bit! Doing about 2,500 rpm at 70 mph. Makes even more sense now in 2022. Everytime I put diesel in my car at my local Morrisons I just wish I could pay the 80p per liter price of the LPG rather than the £1.80 that is diesel nowadays. If the prices keep going up by next year I'll buy a cheap Toyota or something and convert it to LPG as a second car to do the local runs and work commute. Save the diesel one for holidays.

Today a disaster happened whilst on the M180. I timed my fill ups badly and as a consequence ran out of gas. The car flicked over to petrol and all all I could think about was £1.34 per litre down out the exhaust pipe! Only good thing is that I can inform you that over a 30 mile stretch from the M180 to Morrisons, Rotherham I did 70 mph with cruise control on and 47.9 mph on petrol.

Didn't go looking for one - but got offered a crazy PX deal - it's only after buying it that I'm appreciating the LPG benefits. Wanted to check out filling process before doing it myself - so your video has been ideal. Update for you. I turned 10,000 miles last week and started to notice my first issue. When cold starting on petrol the car would run quite rough until it turned onto gas. My theory was that it didn't like eco-silly E10 fuel. Remember E10 absorbs water and I've only ever put £40 in over the last 10,000 miles, so the fuel just sits there in the tank going off. I ran the car up to Birmingham on petrol to get rid of the E10 and then filled back up with proper E5 petrol. She now starts and runs perfectly on petrol. I should have realised that anything prefixed with 'Eco' or 'Environmental' doesn't work. From now on its just proper petrol for me.
@ram64man
@ram64man 2 года назад

Wish Dacia would have bi-fuel automatic models. I like the idea of LPG even though the list of retailers selling it is shrinking rapidly. Nearest LPG retailer for me is 10 miles away, but i do not want to go back to a manual transmission. I do like Dacia's honestly with LPG, on their website they admit the MPG takes a 25% hit using LPG over petrol while other sites claim it is only 15-20% loss. Well done Dacia.

Car has just been in for its first service at 17,200 miles. Its a lot quieter running which just goes to show that an 18,000 mile service interval is just too long. In the old days services were no more than 10,000 miles and although oil might be synthetic these days I still think that's a more realistic range. Two issues have arisen. The fuel filler flap started to stick and sometimes I had to pull the lever a few times to open it. Thats been fixed with an adjustment now. Also the blower motor started to get noisy and that turned out to be a dodgy bearing. Thats been replaced on warranty next week. Other than that we're all ready for the big trip to Bodo at the top of Norway in May 🙂

Nobody seems to mention Its nigh on impossible to find an LPG filling station in the UK Most large fuel retailers are phasing them out ans replacing them.with EV charging points. I paid £1500 to have my car converted last year and I may as well not have botheted
@broadsmilemissmagootewkesb5799
Hi Folks. An update is long overdue. The car now has 38,000 miles and is 18 months old. She's completed a fully loaded trip to the top end of Norway and back without a single hitch and apart from a sticking fuel filler cap, has been fault free. Front tyres lasted about 28,000 miles and I've just changed rears after a puncture. They still had about 3mm on. MPG has dropped slightly and on gas I'm getting 30mpg at motorway speeds and 40mpg on petrol. I've calculated that the variance between LPG and Petrol needs to be 60p for me to break even and its now getting very rare to find LPG for less then 99.9p. There's the odd place around but not many. So alas it looks like the industry have just about killed LPG through their own greed. Dealer has already got me booked in for next July to look at an early exchange for a Bigster which comes out in March 23. I'm told there's a PHEV engine which I'll be looking at closely.

Depends on you right foot. These engines are long stroke engine built for torque. What is the most important thing is not to run it in the highest gear all the time because the engine will do it ( above 2000!rpm) Instead when you get below about 2400 rpm shift down to 5th gear. It doesn’t change fuel economy a lot but it makes the engine rev a wee bit more with more ease. If you stick to 60 mph best simply drive in 5th gear. Or shift up when going downhill. The engine will happily pull above 2000 rpm as thats peak torque anyway but you need to ask yourself if you want a wee bit more revs or a slower turning engine in 6th gear getting hot.

Just a quick update. I'm two weeks in now. The car has got 1300 miles on it and my average motorway consumption has risen to 36.9 mpg and 32.0 around town. Yesterday I filled at Strensham services (M5), drove to Warrington, back down to Willenhall and across to Rotherham (274 miles) where I filled for £17.50 which is £6.38 to do 100 miles. To get the same cost out of petrol / diesel at £1.35 ltr I would have needed to do 96.1 mpg. The range on the dashboard said that I could do 240 miles when I filled at Strensham and the gauge went red just before Derby on the A38, but it just kept going and never ran out. I was driving between 68 and 70 mph.

If you look at the financial case it becomes compelling. On gas I use 2.8 gallons to do 100 miles and with current prices being a high 68p per litre it costs £8.64. On petrol I'd us 2.2 gallons to do 100 miles but at £1.40 per litre it would cost £13.98. Incidentally at 55mpg and £1.45 per litre, diesel would use 1.8 gallons = £11.84.

The only issue I've found is making sure that the adaptor is finger-tight when you screw it in, otherwise it doesn't form a tight seal and the pump doesn't work. Morrisons pumps have a slightly different twist handle which I've found to be easier than the types that have the twist at the end of the nozzle, but they're all basically the same. Also don't forget to download the Autogas App which shows where the nearest station is. In the UK we're all bayonet but across Europe they use a variety of types. You can buy a full set of adaptors off ebay for about £35 (Search Autogas adaptor set). Best wishes Stu

Hi, I've run several cars in the past with big motorway miles (100K plus) that I've had converted and never once had any valve damage or needed to put any special oils in. I think its perhaps a bit of a throwback myth from the days before valves were hardened to cope with lead free fuels. Since the early 80's when lead free came to the UK I believe the hardened valve seats took away the risk of damage. Dacia certainly don't use any different engine oils or additives for the LPG version. Best wishes Stu

Hi. I'm up to 16000 miles in 7 months so far and the only issue I've had is the fuel filler flap sometimes gets stuck and I have to pull the lever a couple of times. Its in for the first service next month so I'm sure its just a tweak. There have been zero issues with the bayonet adaptor, however I would recommend buying a spare off ebay in case you lose it. You need to order the M10 size. I've just left a comment below ref the old valve issue but I'll paste it again, "Hi, I've run several cars in the past with big motorway miles (100K plus) that I've had converted and never once had any valve damage or needed to put any special oils in. 100% agree with Adammmm''s reply below. I've mamaged to time my fill ups so I never drop onto petrol so my gauge hasn't moved since I collected the car. During the winter the switchover takes a little longer but we're only talking 30 seconds or so. In the summer the change over happens within a few seconds of setting off. The strange thing is the engine which outperform's my wife's 1.6 petrol version easily, and is a lot quieter. I think a lot is down to the fact that LPG is 110 RON rather than the usual 95 RON of petrol so its like running on super-fuel. I can put the car on the motorway and not have to change up and down gear for hills at all. If you're still not convinced then let me tell you that yesterday I filled at Strensham services on the M5 (64.9p ltr), drove to Warrington, Willenhall and then Rotherham for work where I filled up again at Morrisons for £17.50. The cost is amazing. As per the reply below, don't forget to download the Autogas App so you can see where the stations are and the latest prices. Best wishes Stu

I have also read an article by Autocar that states that a Dacia representative has told them it is because of a shortage of autogas in the Uk . Hi Cesar. Absolutely. The car will always start on petrol until the engine reaches a certain temperature. Compared to other LPG cars I've run the Dacia turns onto gas at a very low temperature. Once you're on gas then it stays using that fuel until the gas runs out, then automatically reverts back to petrol. The switching system is fully automatic but you can take manual control if you want and dictate when it uses gas and petrol. You always need some petrol in to start the car but only a small amount. That brings its own issues however, see my note below ref E10 petrol. Stu

Waiting to test drive the new model in summer as the 2024 duster LPG model is 3 CYC 1 Litre 100 bhp which does not sound right for a car the size of the 2024 Duster.
