It is so cool that model railroading has always been a family affair, the closest I ever came to that was my dad buying me my first set when I was 4 and having a life long love of trains ever since, cherish every moment you have with your dad because once they are gone it really leaves a void in your life regardless if they were involved in your hobby or not R.I.P. to my dad 4/27/19
Well done. The love you have for your Dad transcends the video lens. It is clear your family understands the true meaning of “family”. Excellent narrative overview of the layout.
Thanks for sharing your dad's layout with us. My father made a layout when I was a kid and that inspired me to build mine. Wish my dad was still with us to share it with me. Enjoy the precious time with your family everyone..
It is awesome that you and your dad share this hobby together I like the way you share your layout and other locomotives with us, I can tell where you got it from, Did Grandpa have a hand in this o gauge hobby.👍👌🇺🇸
This is what model trains are all about. I have memories as a kid putting together our track every Christmas. I built a 2 car garage set for my boys when they were small. We took it down years ago but we had a lot of good memories.
A great layout by your dad. Its great for a family to have some of the same interests. My brother and myself always had layouts from the time we were kids. Enjoy the time with your dad now, it does not last forever.
Few are able to bring thier love for the hobby across the way you do. Truly amazing. The variety of those cabriolets and other cars from that era caught my eyes rigjt away.
Chris, this was definitely something special and I was immersed in your father’s layout. I think you could have went on for hours and I would have never lost attention trying to see every detail. I have bought Gargraves track for my new layout and after seeing your dad’s layout, I think I made the right decision. There’s so much in his 16x9 layout that made me smile and the fact that I am setting up my new layout to be about 11x21, I will definitely be able to fit a lot more then what I thought inside those city limits. Thank you for this amazing look at your dad’s layout, I have been looking forward to this one for a long time. I will add that you have not aged a bit. I took a social media break over the past week to focus on my mom for Mother’s Day, so I am late to this party, but isn’t it something special...indeed.
My dad still has his lionel set from the 70's when general mills owned lionel. The build quality is poor but it is still neat he has his original set. And i still have my lionel set that my parents got me in the 90's. Now i have one daughter of my own and a son on the way. I hope to continue the love of model trains!
Thanks so much Chris for showing off your Father’s layout it’s so amazing that it inspired you to this day to carry on the tradition I too have built layouts for myself and my son and hope he will still be interested to carry on the hobby when he gets his own home some day. cheers to you and dad, Ken
Thanks for watching Ken! So great to hear that you share a similar story with your son. I am sure he will carry the hobby forward to cherish the memories just as I have with my father!
No wonder you have such a passion.your dad's layout is magazine grade awesome.thanks for sharing.how is your southern f3s?. choochoo auctions has a postwar era aba set on market.itis an excellent source for postwar and MPC era trains.your last video made me realize the charm of MPC era trains.now we all focus on prototypical and scale stuff.somehow those MPC engines just keep going.keep up your wonderful work.god bless you all
Hey William - the Southern F3s are still working great. Been running them quite a bit. I plan to add a few more MPC engines as well since I opened the door. Thank you for all of your support!
@@RBPTrains more like thank you.those wonderful MPC engines made me realize how colorful they really are.been pulling mine out and running them.they do have a certain charm and reliability.ive been too focused on building a scale collection
Another incredible video Chris!!! It's funny that your Dad is not a 'youtuber' so much as you. As old fashioned as my Dad was, he'd be right at home in front of the camera. I know this because one year, an antique show came down from New York City to do an hour long show featuring my father's collection. I could not believe how at home he was in front of the camera. My mother on the other hand had that wild animal look as she was extremely nervous. I was somewhere in between, a bit nervous but could still function. - LOL You're a natural in front of the camera, you even look a bit like a young Jim Carrey. This video is a great tribute to your parents and your memories of childhood, I believe this is what our hobby is all about - family. Keep up the great work!!
Sharing the hobby with others is my favorite part. So many folks have similar stories of trains in their families and it is always interesting to listen to these. Thanks for watching!
There you go again Chris, great video. You and your dad are lucky to share a great love of trains. Amazing layout’s you both have. Amazing buildings, access areas are well hidden, that was a great shot with the hand. Love the idea of the kids layout. Keep up the great work. Oh and I see where you learned to power a layout. LOL. Look forward to the next video as always. Take care my friend, Tim
Hi Chris, New subscriber after seeing you in Classic Toy Trains. It is very cool that you and your Dad share the hobby. Reviewed some if your past videos. Loved the Euro locos from MTH. I had forgotten just how beautiful they were. All the best to you and family be safe 👍🙂😮🌟
Hi Chris, I was video foaming and happened upon your Chanel, it’s great all of your videos are great but what really grabbed me was the video at your dads layout, it’s heartwarming to see the tradition being carried on. (Thanks your dad for me) I’m a train nut, started with my dads Lionel at my birth 70 years ago, then into HO and now I’m doing a (never ending) N scale because I’m doing it in modules, we’ll kind of. LOL Thanks for sharing a great hobby!
Was looking forward to seeing your Dad's layout. It looks super! Sure has a lot going on in 16x9'. I keep hoping one of my kids will get the bug so we can enjoy the hobby together!
Both of y'all have awesome layouts gives inspiration had to tear down my tubular Lionel layout to reorganize my train/hobby room due to life changes but planning in the near future to rebuild I enjoy your channel and the trains you show case
I just ran across this video. I love your dad's track choice. Ross switches and Gargraves track. My choices also. I'm at 11x16 with 072 to 096 curves. His scenes are great.
Your dad has one fine layout! I run Western Maryland on my layout and it's cool to see I'm not the only one that does (I saw some WM freight cars on your layout too!). Thanks for the overview of your dad's layout. Enjoyed watching this very much.
@@RBPTrains I used to be a MD guy, but moved to Pennsylvania 12 years ago. I lived in Thurmont MD for 16 years. I was always stopping in at Catoctin Mountain Trains & Hobbies buying trains ( I was like 3 minutes away).
Holy cow, this whole time I’ve been watching you I didn’t recognize you until I saw your dad!!! My uncle owned train depot in mt airy. Tom gartner. My dad was bull gartner who repaired American flyer trains and we worked with your family many years working with you. Sadly my dad passed last August from cancer and Tom gartner sold the train store. It’s not the same anymore! I was the younger kid always in store on Saturday helping. I’m 35 now but been helping there since I was 8. Love to chat with you sometime
Wow! Small world. Your dad is a legend in my family! Was so sorry to hear about him passing last year. Would love to connect. My email is RBPTrains at gmail dot com.
Great video as usual! How the heck did you get so many subscribers so fast? I want in on the secret lol. Congrats on growing your channel, I bet you’ll be a 2K before the end of the summer!
Great stuff Chris! My dad and I have an O Gauge layout that we've been building on little by little since 1989. It's 20 ft by 20 ft and there's a lot of action on it. I would love to see your layout in person
Yes as soon as I could walk and talk at a young young person I could nothing but trains trains trains and more trains. Penn Central and such like that I love trains
Know any background on his green bridges? I have one from years ago that looks just like them, but never really knew who made them. Picked it up at a model train show in Houston.
Chris. I watched your video with r’s trains tonight. You mentioned your dads/your first train was a Marx train. I’m curious? Is that train still in the family? Also which engine/set was it? I started out with Marx trains myself. Every time I see a Marx train I’m a kid again.
I have some old train stuff that I'd like to get rid of I was a kid I was in the trains a lot love your channel but just not in the trains like that anymore do enjoy watching also have some other buildings and stuff original in the box don't know if anybody's interested
AWOME CHANNEL - great trains and background info on them and related - Very Cool Layout overview here of your dads super layout ! - 0 scale trains are the Ultimate Hobby i think !!! - curious what are the dimensions of your layout? - you mentioned your dad s is 16 ft by 9 feet - I have nice Carpet Pacific railroad LOL that is 15 feet by 10.4 ft
Thanks for watching Fulvio! My layout is 27'x12'. 15'x10' is a nice space for a layout. My layout was on my carpet for several years before I built the table and I had just as much fun with it then as I do now. Enjoy and thanks again!
@@RBPTrains thanks so much for the message back Very cool layout and nice dimensions to have on yours .. The fun is always in creating things which is always gonna happen with model trains on the floor or on the table very true statement Indeed.. its very creative so it's nice to have some space to have somebody different types of things and of course one thing I like the idea of having the ability to interchange puts different accessories at a different time to create a different scene in the same physical space part of the layout... . I grew up with it my father love trains and so it was passed on to me and the other siblings in the family even my mother got into it from his influence lol... Look for to seeing more videos... Curious Do you have any Golden Gate Depot or 3rd rail locomotives Really great stuff definitely expensive but supervalu I have the 1938 Santa Fe super chief set And my father got the original Mercury steam engine Pacific with the 4 car original set... ... It would be neat if some company could make the 1964 version of the shinkansen Japanese high speed train I haven't her model giving us a gift for music go and its would be one of the more interesting looking trains to have especially because you could have English and Japanese announcements I believe that's prototypical in Japan... Do you think that's something that might tickle the fancy of O scale train modellers in America... Potentially?
