An extremely relatable short film. Directed by Ted Kamp Written by W. Earl Brown Featuring Eric Stromer, Jerry Cantrell, W. Earl Brown, Suzanne Friedline & Ted Kamp
You call that a practice amp?!! We’re definitely NOT from the same generation cause I’m FOH and this is like the regular size gigging amp those days man xD
I feel like most rock guys just completely lose their coolness once they get old, but Jerry is just different. He still goes hard every show. Absolute legend.
Mariano Abundiz To add another layer, the guitar is a G&L, a guitar company that Jerry Cantrell has played and had a relationship with for decades. Nice lil nod to the guitar geeks.
Jerry’s facial expressions through this entire video are priceless.😂 “That you piped…and plumbed…” *Jerry just stares blankly* haha Omg this is gold, why is there not more?
Lol..That's why it's relatable And true. |||% blue collared Americans.. Trying to live the dream And Party with our rock heroes and that one guy in the band that Always knows how to fix shit ... The Jerry Can Trells of the Silent Majority lol.
Anyone aging badly or well, for that matter, seems to be mostly determined by genetics. I managed to appear 13yrs old from 13yrs to 45yrs., which was annoying for most of those years. I don't abuse my body, but I don't give it any special care, either. In my 60's I still look 20yrs younger. I wish I still looked and felt 13yrs old. Arthritis is a bitch.
@@ninalee8625who though you looked 13 years old when you were 40 years old are you kidding. I notice most people are very bad at discerning age. I never seen anyone that looked younger/older than 5-10 years their own age.
@@ExcitedAnacondaSnake-hg8ecEveryone. I was always getting carded and saying I looked 13yrs was probably an exaggeration, but people thought my teenaged sons and I were siblings.
My guitarist had A.D.D. so he'd always just start screwing around and playing stuff in his own little bubble. Took forever to get anything accomplished.
mike f Lol. Ive been a guitarist for almost 4 decades and this is as true today as it was back then. As I am talking to someone I start nodding and not paying attention. I never noticed how annoying this is until I started trying too work with another guitarist on harmonies and he just kept plucking stupid shit and wasn’t even listening to me. 🤣🤣
If I was in a room with my guitar and Jerry Cantrell, and I left that room and came back to Jerry playing my guitar, that thing would be going in a case on display, never to be touched again.
Jerry Cantrell just got nominated for a Grammy for the 9th time. For the kiddies who might not know who he is, he is metal/grunge/rock royalty. Best known as the founder, songwriter, lead guitarist and co-lead vocalist of Alice in Chains. A trail blazer living legend musician who's name sits comfortably amongst the best 90's grunge maestros Chris Cornell, Eddie Vedder, Layne Staley and Kurt Cobain. So awesome to see Jerry in this video.
F Aye! ..Facts brother indeed. Hope the young kids see your comment lol. Real talk.. Theyve got robbed every f year since 93,4,5,6.. and now. Why he he quit going to award shows after 94 grammies i think. Deff best rock/metal band then And Now. An the greatest band comeback ever..cause Their still slayn audiences an Successfully! 😎🌟 True f master at his craft indeed. Vedder is deff grunge. Nirvana punk. AIC Metal..for those days no doubt.. Soundgarden..metal/grunge/etc.. One thing also that makes AIC the greatest Band,. Grunge was a style of blue collared Americans (why so relatable) .."Grunge " didn't exist yet lol But PJ is deff the embodiment of that. But the second AIC stars playing their guitars ,drums, you, f Everyone Knows who the f it is Most complimented voice Duo Specially for metal then. Jerrys the matyre to Laynes lark voice. Perfection. and honestly..f pioneer of "grunge writing and songs" BEFORE it even existed or least was "titled every where then:. (Mtv, rolling stone) no one relevant today or then lol. Wouldn't be PJ with out them no doubt And Alot of other iconic bands. Jerrys legit one the best song writers of all time and most sought after guitarists. Even with fame..still gives us all that f 90s is King nostalgia back 😎 Forever greatful an the most "rock star " mfr to live. Co founded AIC, Wrote most tracks Lost layne Solos didn t do better than the band of course, But f dude brought another chill blue collared dude to Jam an continue doing what they love ..at Their age. Successfully..slayn audiences ,sold out shows, and f great albums as usual. No band in history of bands honestly ever nor could ever make the comeback they did. Black gives way to blue tells that. This f guy and rest band should already been in RRHOF..before nirvana, PJ etc. Their great, each their own but fuck..literally pioneeres and we only had those other bands cuz them an inspiration some sort of way. Diff genres no comparisons just wish they'd get them in there specially Jerry before I die or in a home. Past due and over due.
Thank God I was around in the 90's, couldn't imagine how crappy It'd be to be hating the current music&listening to bands that are no longer around with alot of the guys dead. Rip 90's I miss it. Feeling old😩
ummm...maybe I was reading that out of context, but Layne Staley was the lead vocalist of Alice in Chains and my apologies but I considered Cantrell and Staley more of a "team" of trail blazers...maybe its me, but without Cantrell, there was no Staley...in the 90's, I NEVER ONCE considered AiC part of that "Grunge" movement...their music was by far heavier and aggressive (ie. Facelift and Dirt) and not as abstract...as you can tell, being a metal musician in the late 80's / early 90's, I never really grasped the concept of Grunge as to me it seemed a little "artsy"...AiC where more connected to the heavier side (Monsters of Rock)and with other Seattle metal bands (Forced Entry...they appeared in F.E.'s vid "Never a Know, But the No")...so yeah, for me I have always considered AiC to be "un-grunge"...props to Cantrell for his acting in this
Leigh Kaan I think the humor in this videos is flying over the heads of many of you. His guitar skills were being questioned but he thought that his Plumbing skills were being questioned so he responded to it by defending his Plumbing skills and what made it even funnier was the fact that he was so flippant about something that takes a lot of skill (Plumbing). "That's Plumbing in a nutshell" made his flippant description of the complexities of Plumbing even more funny, and "in a nutshell" is a very common term. You might as well say that when he says the word "would", that it's an aic reference also. And if you think about it, if they were trying to script an aic song reference, it would have been far more obvious like "hey you're treating me like a man in a box" or something like that. Saying that it's an Alice in Chains song reference.... Just because they have a song called nutshell, is just so unbelievably derpy. People's excitement about letting everyone know that they know that Alice in Chains has a song called nutshell is overriding their ability to think
EJT2000 LOL talking about rights while telling others to shut up is pretty geeky there, Magoo. Yes they have a right to be wrong, yes you have a right to defend people who are wrong, and believe it or not, I have a right to point out when somebody is wrong. Don't be such a snowflake.
Lisa Reichard I've been married 11 times for average of 3 years each time. shacked up they used to call it. And zero divorces. I spend 1 year in between to "regroup" and get full-on independent AGAIN. Whatchya DOING for the next three years? I'm always serious it just never works out it's probably my fault but I am very faithful.
I've been telling myself i'll get back into to playing in band's when my kids get older, but the more i think about it i'm sure this is exactly how it will be.
Well yeah. I played bass for a few bands got married joined one band after my oldest was born. 19years ago. When he hit 2 I stopped playing all together. Sold my Ibanez and my crate cried for weeks now my first is 19. My youngest is 12. There both lefty guitar players I started playing a florescent green Dean 5 string my kids where shocked. They knew I played but never seen or heard it. Then I totally rocked Mary had a Little lamb on a flute that embarrassed them big time........ I got the please don't do that again and your to old mom lines. My brain says I'm still 20. My body says almost 40. Damn I'm confused.
@@mombiezombaby7068 If it's embarrassing the kids....YOU GOTTA DO IT! My youngest graduated from college about two years ago. I was "off" music for about ten years (give or take) either in the military or failing spectacularly trying to climb the corporate ladder. I had that confusion, too, until I realized that (1) I've never really been much besides a headbanger (2) now I'm an aging headbanger and (3) they may as well crank some Slayer at my funeral (wish I had a photo of my son's face when I told him I wanted him to play "Angel of Death" in those proceedings, maximum volume...priceless!). If it sounds like I'm encouraging you to *get another bass* I am. You're *never* too old to rock and roll, says this 18-year-old in a 57-year-old body....so go for it!
Do it! It's never too late. Been playing for nearly 30 years but joined a band and got up on stage for the first time in my life at 43. Yes, plenty of bullshit band drama to deal with, but it has also been a hella good time. DO IT!
Jerry Cantrell...the maker and keeper of some of musics greatest and most recognizable riffs and backup vocals which still give me a bad case of the good goosebumps to this day.
Also a _rockumentary_ to go with it as a DVD extra. The making of the crowd funding of the creation of .... I reckon an Executive Producer credit could probably pull in $100 a hit.
So, I was kinda upset when I thought that someone was saying that Jerry Cantrell was aging poorly LOL So glad I watched the short, because that's not it at all! I laughed so hard! Great film and I want more!
So awesome!!! Lol 🤣😅 🤣. Jerry is such a good dude. Many years ago I was in a sober living house, and he'd pick up the guys and take them out to dinner. He recognized me at a cafe one morning. I was strung out and homeless. He drove me to a program and asked them to help me. That truck ride was so surreal!!! Good guy all around.
Wow bro, that's actually an amazing story, I seriously got goosebumps, I been clean 5 years now and I hope you got your shit together, I'd live to hear the whole story email me at jaxon0904@gmail.com thank you
@@saltpeter7429 Absolutely. Just imagine being helped by someone you grew up listening to, someone who inspired your guitar playing amd singing. It was so great.
it's video's like this that i realize how lucky i was to to see Jerry, with Layne and the original lineup of Alice way back in 1991 from the fourth row opening up for Metallica's and justice for all tour. love his flanger / chorus pedal style of playing.
Ultimate_Savage the Damaged Justice tour for the And Justice For All album was was 88-89. I think you may be talking about the Wherever I May Roam your for the black album which was 91-92
The harmonies between Jerry and Layne as well as the way they were so symbiotic as they sang, were a thing of beauty and goes unrecognized by most. Listen to a song and pay particular attention to Jerrys voice and listen to how he seamlessly fills in gaps in a song or in a particular lyric for Layne if you need visuals watch the mtv unplugged. Live Version and you'll catch what Im saying. And those vocal harmonies between the two are. Just the perfect pitch and wavelength. As if they were meant to sing together.
As a member of a “dad band”, I love this and wish they would keep it going. We are just a bunch of professionals (not music professionals), that meet once a month, bang on our instruments and joke around. This video, other than the “panty” scene, is spot on.
SilverParatrooper, hell yeah. Remember the series “Man Up”? That was awesome. This kind of reminds me of man up only centered around a band. This would make an awesome series even if it’s only on a streaming service.
It watch the shit out of this. I bet Jerry's character would nail the lady next door too and she would be someone he isn't attracted to afterwards but she would continuously follow him around being his own personal hemorrhoid. A pain in his ass lol. They couldnt call thr show dad band it would have to be vacation fund. Season one the beginning of dad band. I love old 80s music. The guitar players are so rad there tones are so huge. I used to collect vinyl of bands like dokken music has changed so much. But I have always tried to jam on music from every decade from the 50s until now in 2020. There is so much talent in the world. And I'd love to see this as a show that had guests that are famous musicians appear on every episode. Like imagine them at the bar and plant or page just walks out of the bathroom. That would kill.
I like how this captures the temperaments of the players of each instrument. God knows how many bands I walked away from because the guitar player thought he was the only real musician in the band.
@@SuziQ. - Based on experience, the bands I was in, most of the problems were caused by a hot dog wannabe lead guitar player who couldn't imagine anyone else comprehending the "complex amazing music" stuck in their heads. None of the bands I was in had lead vocalists because, with a little practice, any idiot could sing rock.
Jerry Cantrell went to my high school. We used to get the old 85 or 86 year book from the library and look him up every so often. Some of the teachers would talk about his high school years when i would play guitar at school. Mr. Best claimed to have had him as a student. Anyways we thought it was pretty cool. SLHS
Dis is guh-raaaaate! Yes, all middle-aged male, bedroom-volume level musicians with long extinguished and faded dreams of Rock 'n' Roll glory can relate. Sigh.... Great film, hope there are more to come, mahalos!
Nice! I knew him from Deadwood & never knew it was the same guy until now. This reminds me of re-watching Rome with my friend & he pointed out one of the leads is Tommy from Trainspotting
This is the shit!! I think I speak for the majority when I say we want to see more Jerry Cantrell and more of this Dad Band. This would be great made into a movie or tv show.
everyone in a band(and older) can relate to 1)crowded garage with a fridge for beer 2) close the door or play quieter for the neighbors and/or family members 3) the guy who loves Rush 4)the guy that expects way too much from average joes with limited time 5) the bickering of the "direction" of a group that doesn't even play out 6) the guy wanting ambience of lights, fog etc(im guilty) and 7)the guy with way too much amp for the room.
"Man that looks a lot like Jerry Cantrell" I kept saying over and over again :D It's now more than 27 years ago I bought my first CD ever, Dirt by Alice in Chains. My brother and I bought a CD-player in late 1992 and I only had enough money left for one CD. Not once have I regretted that purchase. One of the greates albums ever made, together with Wolverine Blues by Entombed, VDoP by Pantera and a few others.
Trukkerkeps classic man, i also loved this album back then in around 92 and loved wolverine blues when i got it in 93. I remember coz i was 18, a vey significant year for me and of course Pantera. WhAt a journey back in time.
This is a freaky trip down memory lane. I remember seeing Jerry Cantrell back on Holloween Eve after Laynes passing. He was dressed as Elvis during the entire show and played a Phenomenal set. Afterwards we ended up at a strip club and low and behold there is Elvis with the band. I walked by to grab a drink at the bar but Jerry wouldn't let me pass by without dancing with him. I just tapped him on the shoulder and said "Great show Elvis!" What a fun night I'll never forget.
There is an alternate universe where Jerry Cantrell is a sitcom actor. Edit: Just realized that Jerry probably sneaked that G&L Strat into the skit instead of a Fender.
For what, Making fun of what HIS LIFE would be like his if he didn’t get posers like yourself to come see him play with his cover band version of Alice In Chains. He’s basically making fun of his own life when no one cared about his solo career. Also taking jabs at lives he ruined while recreating AIC, because he was jealous of Mikey Starr, among others!
@@jrrcorcloudsaremine You don't know what you're talking about. His solo stuff is better than 70 percent of AIC's stuff. Mike Starr? Really nigga? That dude left for other reasons, Jerry had no problems with him. Jerry literally had no beef with anyone. By the way, Alice In Chains is better than they have ever been now, they have the sound they've been searching for since starting. You're just mad that Layne isn't alive, not that Jerry Cantrell, the Riff Lord himself, is finally getting some recognition. Keep talking out your ass, maybe you'll dislodged your head which seems to be stuck so far up there, you can taste what you had for dinner last night.
This is so awesome. It is so on point when a handful of people get together and don't mesh. I experienced this numerous times as a teenager. So on point. Their was always some geek like the keyboard player. I guess I was the arrogant guitar player. What a mess. More than 1/2 the so called sessions were bs. I got older and was able to end up playing original /showcase music in clubs and theaters in Southern California. Good times 😂
