This is healing to watch as a black man! I have watched almost every episode in less than 12 hours. Black culture is not passed down through wealth it’s passed down through Art all be it music, food, or clothes. This is how we bridge the gap this channel needs to be on TV. PLEASE KEEP GOING THIS IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN YOU KNOW!!!!
Thats so awesome and I agree it's more than they realise ... I don't always agree with what they say, but I'm always agreeable with how they say it. Everything is about "taking it in" with spirit of learning, ovastanding, and enjoying. They truly Listen and experience with appreciation. And they're honest.
As a black woman...this is so wonderful to watch! Thank you for sharing beautiful black music with your dad! He is so genuine and you have great taste! New Follower🙋🏾♀️
Your Dad will absolutely lose his mind when he hears Ye-yo on her live album. She was pregnant and having pains onstage. You could feel the emotions and pain in her voice. Its so poetic because Ye-yo means mother in the Maasai language. Erykah Badu is so melodic, spiritual and smooth. She's a whole vibe. (If Chaka Khan & Billie Holiday had a baby that's Erykah) 😍
Erykah Badu and J Dilla together...amazing. RIP J Dilla. Neo-Soul, was everything. Thankfully, we have the titans from that music period still making music - Erykah, D'Angelo, Maxwell, Jill Scott, Eric Roberson, Ledisi...among so many others...
I was a cook in the Navy in 2001 and I played this album my entire shift for a year. My food was always raved about, I used to say Erykah helped the taste... I gave it love and she gave it fla'vah... (Flavor)
Your duo emanates calm and warmth. This is what it looks like when a son has been well loved. He has grown into a secure young man. Congratulations Papa. I enjoy your channel. Thank you.🥰👍
This is by far one of the best albums ever. I listen to this particular song every day, and have been playing this album regularly for the last 22 years.
That's dope. I listen to Baduism in it's entirety a few times a week for 25 years now and to me that's one of the best albums ever. I have to make myself give Baduism a rest sometimes and play Mama's Gun (my personal close second favorite album of hers.) I always play Didn't Cha know first and then I start the album over from the beginning. Then I go through and listen to all the rest of her albums in order of when they came out. She's the modern day R&B/Soul GOAT no doubt.
Me too, Favorite song by her! Just checked out your channel and watched a vid. Love what you're doing! I'll check your eBay store out too. Aloha from Hawai'i to you sister 🤙🏽✌🏽️
Definitely need to play Apple Tree...damn near the entire first album really. Erykah is definitely the Queen....I can't wait till you let your dad listen to some Jill Scott
Ky, you’re amazing. Your dad deeply amazes me and steals my heart with the way he approaches his listening experience with each artist. He is such a deeply passionate guy, when it comes to music and I LOVE IT! I have no doubt that you guys will hit one million subs in the next few months!!! I ooze with pride as I watch you introduce songs of my youth to your father and him express his sentiments in such an illustrious manner! Thank you to the both of you!!!
Ok can I just say…you have the best taste in music. I pay close attention to the records you display behind you. The first video I saw, I saw you had Fugees The Score and I went, “OH OK HE’S LEGIT.” And now today I see more records that I own. Lauryn Hill is the artist that made me fall in love with rap/hip hop. And Late Registration is one of my favorite rap albums ever. I also have that Fleetwood Mac record. You’re cool, my dude.
Also when he said basically that it's not music anymore, it's a vibe/experience. TBH, Pops' taste is not to be scoffed at either with how he's been able to pick out influences from the 70s in contemporary artists.
I would love to see a whole Erykah Badu session with you and your pops 1. Green Eyes 2. I Want you 3. Liberation - OutKast feat E. Badu 4. Lifetime 5. Other Side of the Game The list goes on
Facts. I was tripping when he said Dilla produced it, I never knew that. Makes more sense now as to why this was always my favorite track on Mama's Gun (Clevah is a close second) and my favorite track of hers period. Baduism is one of the best albums of all time of any genre and I play it so much that sometimes I have to let Baduism rest and give all her other albums a play.
I love how he does his research and understands the background of the artist and the impact they have on the culture. I love this channel it’s so endearing
It's so awesome seeing your dad experience the music that I've grown up listening to for the first time. It actually makes me appreciate the songs more and I find myself noticing things about the songs I've never noticed. You and your dad are amazing!
Same!! Seeing someone else experience this music I cherish for there first time before my eyes is so refreshing and I too find a new found deeper appreciation for the music I have loved and listened to for years
It’s a “vibe” may be the descriptive word you're seeking guys and yes I hear the Diana in her voice as well. Thank you both for sharing the experience.
I'm glad I got to catch the premiere. You've already introduced dad to Erykah and The Roots. Now you should introduced him to Jill Scott. Play "He Loves Me" and see how dad likes that.
I really appreciate what you do. Art has always brought people together no matter culture, race, or religion. Love the channel, love the content, and love your pops!
I'm loving you two! What a great idea for a channel. I'm a 49 year old woman with 27 year old twin son musicians. The best moments, memories I've shared with them by FAR is our love of music. They've shared with me and vice versa. I love how open your dad is... and observing you guys bonding over phenomenal music is great. Good taste 👍🏽👌🏽😊! Cheers!
You guys have excellent taste. She is one of the few artists that made me drive to another state to get her first album that had been promoted well in advance. I have to check out this channel.
Yea same. I found this channel about a week and a half ago and watched all their reactions that day. Now im just waiting for them to upload a new reaction.. Love this channel.
This video is awesome for soo many reasons 👏🏾 …for one I love how this Millennial is educating his dad about an artist that’s not even from his era! Secondly I love how his father is genuinely showing interest in what kind of music his son listens too. If more people would take the time to learn other people cultures, music and Customs etc this world would be so different.
Also, I can't wait for your dad to hear something off of "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill" album. Is it one of the rare albums that I can play from start to finish without skipping a track. So iconic. I think he'd love it.
I have some suggestions: • "One in A Million" by Aaliyah • "He Loves Me (Lyzel in E Flat) or "Hear my Call" by Jill Scott • "Lifetime", "This Woman's Work" (Live) or "Ascension" by Maxwell EDIT: 21 likes!?!? Now I feel like a child on Christmas day! I was not expecting this comment to blow up. Thank you! 😘☺️
Needs to be the Live Version of "This Woman's Work" from MTV Unplugged. 1) a good half of people, if not more, knew and fell in love with the live version first (Maxwell actually released the studio version in 2001 3 years *after* he first performed it live on MTV in 1998), and 2) he pays a proper respect to the original writer, Kate Bush, right before he sings it, in the live version, and 3) it's just sonically better and more consistent (entirely falsetto)
@@BluntressVidaLoca 1,2,3 the world keeps turning; I was BORN, underwater with 3 dollars and 6 dimes; you may laugh 'cause you ain't do your math. This is called SUPREME MATHEMATICS. If you were REALLY a Blunted Psychic Queen, I wouldn't have to teach you. You would already know. #knowledgewisdomunderstanding.
Loved the reaction! I grew up to Erykah Badu. My mother used to play her music all the time. The son is very knowledgeable and he is even teaching me some things I didn't know about artist.
My mother liked Baduizm and Apple Tree was one of her faves. I fell in love with Mamas Gun. Even tho they are only about 3 yrs apart, this one feels more a part of my youth than the former.
I LOVE YOUR CHANNEL!!!🥰 #NewSub Kai, you're so patient and respectful with your dad and your audience! Dad, you're such a great example of how much fun it can be to engage with your kids by showing respect to what he loves!! Keep having fun!🤩 💗🤗 #LoveAndHappiness
I fell in love with Erykah Badu with her first album "baduisum"check it out and explore more of her music. I have to agree with dad her voice is very exquisite .
I've literally just stumbled upon your page and I LOVE IT!! My first introduction to you guys and it's with one of my all time favorite artist singing one of my all time favorite songs💚💚keep up the beautiful interactions
i'm so glad i ran into your channel. You guys are the cutest thing i've ever seen and I want more of it! lol the way you talk about the song just makes me fall in love with every part of the song too. you guys are doing great things here! ♥♥♥
I get "vanilla" cause its warm and smooth... it's like "butter baby"! I found this channel in the middle of the night. Can't wait to take this ride with you guys.
My parents used to yell at me to turn down rap and hip hop and here u are listening to it with your pops. Needless to say your relationship is better. It's so refreshing seeing how your dad is open to "black" music, helping to combat racism thru music and understanding. Keep it up guys!
If Dad likes this song and Billy Holiday, I definitely recommend you share with him Erykah Badu’s green eyes. Her style in this song pays homage to the jazz and “scatting” singers of the bebop and other jazz eras. Cool video as always gentlemen.
This was the best reaction video I’ve ever seen.!! So organic and informative. Thank You for exposing your father and your audience to a legend. I even learned some things from this and I’ve been a fan of hers for over 20 years.
I have been a fan of yall's channel for a min, keep doing ya thing FrontRoom! Erykah loves Chaka Khan...but your dad's references are spot on! Go DAD!!!
Yes Erika is a music queen. The video to this song is also a masterpiece. It was shoot in a desert and Erika is lost Trying to find her way in the sand ocean. RIP J.Dilla
This is so cool! I love the way Kai knows the background stories on these musicians and i love to see Dad’s reaction to them! I love Erykah’s soulful voice and vibe, her music is timeless. I’m almost ashamed to say I only appreciated her music on radio. This made me appreciate her a little more now I need to spend some time in Apple Music loading her songs✌🏽
This song got me through some rough times in my life. Trying to figure things out and how I ended up where I did sometimes. I love me some Erykah Badu, we have the same name and from the great state of TX
Thank you both for sharing your love of music and seriously listening and hearing what our music is really saying .. It's also beautiful to see father and son learning from each other. Many Blessings ! 💞☺
Another great video 👏🏼 Can’t wait for Lauryn Hill. The Score & Miseducation are both 10/10’s for me. Kai, have you heard of a group from the U.K called Children of Zeus? It’s Neo Soul/Hip Hop. I think you’d really like them. Also, any plans to introduce your dad to some U.K Hip Hop? Artists like Little Simz, Dave, Roots Manuva, Akala, Kojey Radical.
