I think the reason some people don't like it is because you could not escape this song anywhere for about 2 years 😂 Radio, talent shows, people singing in the kitchen. I appreciate you calling out the strings! I've never really listened to just how beautiful the instrumentation is.

@LucidKay9114 I know there's a such thing as a yodel, but there wasn't one in this song. Y'all need to stick to whatever professions and hobbies you're good at. Because music is not it. That wasn't a yodel. Yodeling requires a quick alternation between chest voice and head voice, or falsetto. If you think you heard falsetto in that RUN, then I shouldn't even be talking to you bc you're COMPLETELY clueless. A break in the voice and falsetto are two TOTALLY different things. Her voice was breaking. She wasn't yodeling.

Till this day I don't understand why people don't realize that the squeaky part was intentional...And anybody else that tried to sing this song, just couldn't pull that part off without sounding bad....LOL
This came out when I was 25 and it was huge then but what makes it even better is that elementary aged children sing this song with all their hearts now. This is a generational classic.
As an orch dork myself, I tried to play this song on my viola in middle and high school. Besides that, whoever hates this song needs a hug. Even kids today sing this song because of how passionate it is. I also think she sung this song in one sitting (minus the layover towards the end) because of the strain and strength in how she’s singing. Overall, this is a CLASSIC. ❤
Those girls probably didn't like it because this song was OVERPLAYED everywhere. This was one of her BIGGEST SONGS. But its a great song and she sings it live with even more passion. Also its funny when yall referred to the "runs" as squeaky parts. I was cracking up :D
The point about her singing full force as the song fades really is a wonderful interpretation of her emotion on the track! We kept singing long after the song ended! Felt!!!

I remember the first time I heard it I was taken aback by the "squeaky bits," but it did grow on me, since it was a love song and it is R&B. It may not be palatable to everyone, but I also believe that it does add to the emotion of the song, but it's still a classic Keyshia Cole song that I enjoy

You guys nailed Keyshia Cole’s artistry and brand! She is the girl around the way. Her appeal was her relatability and rawness. And she hasn’t changed or switched up to this day. She was stuck in this lane much like Mary J Blige and Jazmine were, where all of their music was about heartbreak and struggle. All of those artist have worked hard at not being pigeonholed there while also embracing that it’s where they shine and connect the most. Keyshia has a great 3-4 album run worth reacting to!
People can hate but this song is classic. There's a viral video of primary school children who weren't even thought about when they song came out belting it out in unison at a school assembly. That's how you know when a song has become a true classic in the culture when the next generation starts adopting it.
Keyshia Cole is a phenomenal artist. This song was an undeniable hit in the early 2000s. If you hate this song, you’re either deaf or hate classic R&B music. As an 8 year old kid, this song spoke to my soul and I had never been in love but this record takes you there. I also have to remember that everyone has an opinion and they did state they liked certain aspects of the song. You just have to be black to understand this masterpiece. Every note, harmony, and layer and stacking in this song was intentional. The “squeaky” parts are intentional and a stylistic vocal choice.😊🔥❤️

This song was from my teens and made such a resurgence with the younger generation these last few years. My niece had her 13th bday last year and these kids were singing their hearts out.
This song is AMAZING and a generational classic for sure. It brings me back to when I was 20 and just moved to NYC. My cousin had Keyshia’s album before anyone and kept talking about how amazing it was. I swear it took me & the rest of the world a whole 6 months to finally listen to it & understand. This album was such a slow burn.. it came out in the Summer and finally peaked around Winter/the top of the following year. Then she had her reality show on BET b/c everyone was so intrigued by her! You guys should review Keyshia Cole’s whole 1st album. I’ve always felt it’s one of the best R&B albums of the 2000s. I was going through a divorce around the this album came out and this album definitely got me through that period of my life.
