I remember that when I first discovered it, I listened to it a lot. I also went on a small weekend trip with my now girlfriend and 505 came up a bunch on the AUX. Some of the other ones like fluorescent adolescent also came up. We also lodged at a hotel and all of us, including some other friends, played 505. It was epic.
I’d give up one of my testicles gladly to hear this album again!! It’s the fundamental reason I play in a band today. I’m genuinely excited to see what the future holds for the Arctic monkeys ❤️
Fun fact about the drummer Matt Helders, in between recording their first album and this one he decided after seeing a band (I wanna say QOTSA but could be wrong) that he needed to hit the drums harder and faster so he took up boxing training so he could go all out for this album
I remember this story, but I think he saw mettalica, I'm not sure, but probably it was a festival and he saw both bands. but the change for me is more visible on humbug. there he grow his style.
Matt Helders is one of the cleverest, tightest, and most imaginative drummers out there. Without him, they would be a very different band. Such a good band and such a nice discography they have built. Cool to hear this one again. I loved how it made you feel, like it did for everyone of us who listened to it the first time.
I think his work on the last album and the latest track .....Mirrorball, shows how great Matt is. It's one thing to play straight rock but he can play any style. He has really grown.
The conversation at 28:00 when Connor looks at the camera... Was perfect. Great little touch of "yeah well, we'll see." knowing fully that the next track is by far the best on the album.
@@oliverjr-kn2gv it is pretty much their best song but the amount it's overplayed definitely takes away some of the factor of how good it actually is sonically
Arctic Monkeys are so underrated in America. I only know a few people who have actually listened to even one of their albums. I know they’re globally one of the biggest bands but weirdly I just don’t have any friends who talk about them lol.
American fan here. Most of my favorite bands are British. But yeah, even though AM helped bring them exposure in the US they aren't talked about as much as less talented people like Beyoncé (who plays no instruments and writes no music).
@@deirdrekiely6187 love the monkeys , favorite band, just saw them in Brooklyn a few days ago. But you can’t say Beyoncé isn’t extremely talented. Just because she doesn’t play an instrument doesn’t mean she doesn’t have plenty else going for her
Somehow the USA has a habit of overlooking good artists or albums. The first albums of the Arctic Monkeys. That for me is the Arctic Monkeys and then there is the rest. At the olimpics the USA channels decided to put advertisement block when they played I bet you look good on the dancefloor. That could have put them in the spotlight.
@@jackh4637 the bad thing is great tbh But,the band had an argument regarding inclusion of that song in their album. Alex wanted to get it in this album while others didn't want this song in the album. Later Alex relvealed that he regretted the inclusion of that song
@@TheGoldenCapstone It's an idiotic take, and I don't even like The Car. It's fine if you're only - or mostly - interested in guitar anthems, but you can't demand them to make more of that, and it doesn't mean that what they do with The Car and Tranquility Base is old man music.
This reminds me of 2014. I began my Arctic Monkeys phase, had my dad buy me all their CD albums (all the way up to AM). I’d play their albums during long drives and have my dad “react” to them without actually requesting a reaction. But i enjoyed discussing their music so much with him and getting a reaction from him. He too loved 505 🥰 RIP Dad🌹 thanks for this video guys!!
My dad introduced me to the arctic monkeys too, I was 5 when I went with my step mother to buy him Favourite worst nightmare for his birthday. Years later he bought me AM when it was my birthday. I will always remember that car journey when he gave me that album.
2017 for me, when I got into high school and some of my classmates introduced me to Arctic Monkeys. I listened to their first two albums like a madman in 2017 and 2018. RIP to your dad.
Being from Yorkshire myself, this is my favourite album of their’s. It’s got a pure, young, northern cheek and swagger to it. It paints such vivid imagery, and is a throwback to times when you would still go round and knock on your mate’s door to see if they’re about. This is an album I feel like I have lived, a story that coincides with my life.
Damn mate, you just painted my teenage years with your words. Me and my mates listen non stop to this album (and the debut) while we were out drinking in parks and just being teenagers. Im from Sweden but still this album is so etched into my teenagememories. (Sorry for the bad english).
Couldn’t agree more with you I’m from Yorkshire I can remember after a night out walking home with the lads after spending all the cash on drinks lol we sang the whole album walking home such a great time
I LITERALLY GASPED NO WAY. I DIDN'T EXPECT TO SEE THIS AT ALL. One of my favourite albums from one of my favourite bands. Would love to see their other albums as well
I'm a HUGE Monkeys fan and honestly it's been a minute since I've listened to this one. I forget how fucking HARD it goes. Alex Turner is truly one of the greatest songwriters of our generation. Also... well timed my friends, well timed...
505 is not in my top 10. It's good but this band has so many other good songs in b sides and in humbug and tranquility base hotel and casino that no one seems to listen to
Sadly it's because none of the members like it. There was an argument for its inclusion and Alex insisted it be in. He later voiced his regret for that.
would you guys consider listening to their first studio album, “whatever people say i am, is what i’m not”? it’s an amazing first album. 🔥 love your reactions!
I think your dad would really like the energy of the early strokes records of “is this it” and “room on fire”. they also inspired the arctic monkeys so it would be cool for your dad to see where they got their inspirations from
I searched this up for anyone who doesn’t know what a teddy picker is “A 'teddy picker' is British slang for a crane machine, a popular machine at carnivals where prizes, particularly stuffed animals” Lmao I was also curious so I just had to know 😂
He was bang on when he said they would be a good live band because for the first 4 or 5 albums that was the entire point, they wanted to be able to recreate everything live
Does anyone else use this channel as a way to vicariously imagine sharing music with their own Dad? I have a good relationship with my father and would show him my vinyl's when living at home and it was so cool to share it with him, something I miss now that I'm out of home. But I imagine for some people with more strained relations with their fathers (or sons) this channel may be a source of comfort. Thanks for doing what you do boys :)
yeah, I still go to concerts with mine from time to time but this kind of experience of sitting down and talking about an album is preety hard with our lives on the way. Love the channel.
My personal favorite album of theirs is humbug....crying lighting...that bass line and those lyrics. So creative and gloomy but still rocking that whole album! Excited to see you guys start the monkeys journey!
Yes! Such a shift in sound for them that I think really started their evolution to what they are today. So much darker sounding from their older stuff but still all bangers. Dance Little Liar and Secret Door are probably my faves
505 was the song that really got me into the band. i've heard few songs from AM before i heard 505, and they were really really great, but hearing the live version of 505 really affected me in a whole other level
I literally can’t wait for your dad to hear Four Out of Five and Star Treatment. I just know he’ll love them. TBH+C is on another level. Great Reaction!!
This made me strangely emotional. I don't have any friends that like Arctic Monkeys. Seeing your dad get so excited about it gave me a strange sense of vindication. I was so excited to see his reaction when that woodblock comes in on Balaclava and I was not disappointed!
Dad’s reaction is SO INFECTIOUS. I’m currently experiencing this album for the first time despite knowing about this band for 12+ years and I’m just over the moon about it. I always loved their first album, but this is like that album with an added feeling of naughtiness and night-time fun and also kind of a sinister vibe. It’s so fucking stylish and fun. Dad’s reaction mirrors mine so well!
@@jl91iii I wish I could get into their later stuff, after this album, because I know they’ve only gotten more talented as time has gone on, but it’s not my cup of tea. First two albums are god-tier for me though.
Favourite Worst Nightmare is S Tier Arctic Monkeys in my opinion, this album really gets your adrenaline pumping through your veins. Not only that but the mixes in every single song are so tight and smooth! For months now, I’ve been a big fan of this channel, so much so that I try so hard to convince my father to take time out of his day just to sit and listen to various albums... I have a lot in mind that I want to hopefully share with him one day... Keep on going with these reaction videos Connor, you guys are honestly one of the best father + son figures on RU-vid right now! Love you both x
I love to see how your father understands the music, man. I hope my father would react that way to that nice music 🥺❤️. I'm going to see the Monkeys live in Paris in 2 days. You can show TBH&C to your father and see how he reacts.
53 here , my son turned me on to their music back when this album came out. I absolutely love this band, the drummer is awesome, Alex Turners lyrics are so damn good. Got to see them live with my grown children and it was one of the best concerts I’ve been to.
Great video. I'm from the Arctic Monkeys' home city of Sheffield in the UK and the way their music describes growing up in that area at that time is absolutely perfect. So cool to see two people from the other side of the world thoroughly enjoying their music too!
the last track "might be a bad track" that smirk lmao, also my fave album this is, do me a favour is probably my favourite song ever, big up ur Dad, legend
their progression as a band is super interesting. they transition from album to album similarly how they did between songs like fluorescent and the only ones who know in this album. humbug is like an evolution of that maturity. whereas their first album is all asngst & fuck around energy. this being a perfect blend of the two. they were the biggest band in uk but couldn’t get the U.S base to catch on - but during their tour with the black keys they played a new song & the u.s crowds ate it up. they decided to make an entire album around that song, & boom. AM was born. also, IF you are gonna do another i’d say do them in order from first to last. whatever people say i am that’s what i’m not being my favorite.
The real beauty of this album comes from it's flow. Every single song ends perfectly for the next one to begin. That is something lost in choppy listening format like this. I think you will like it even 10 times more when u listen to it in continuity. Loved the review, almost as much as I love this album
The end of this video was incredibly earnest and touching, honestly. A display of why I connect with your channel so much. I hope you keep on your Arctic ways towards the Tranquility Base Hotel and Casino on the moon, see you there. Peace!
You guys were talking about seeing “The Bad Thing” played live. Coincidentally, I believe it’s the only track on this album that they’ve never played live. 😅
It’s the only song that’s isn’t played live because Alex turner wanted the song on the album but the other members didn’t so the decided to put the song in but to never play it live
What i love about AM is that every album is like a rebirth, they are constantly changing, evolving and making new and different music. Love them and this video too!
Listening to Kevin's comments about Alex's voice and him thinking Alex can go up another notch, I'd love to see him react to something like Sweet Dreams, TN because Alex is bloody amazing on that one
Knew a couple songs from AM growing up & still love them. TBH&C made me a fan. Doesn’t matter if some people don’t get it, it’s objectively a Fantastic album. So so good.
That was a great way your dad summed up 505. It really does sound like a departure from their early sound and the beginning of a new, mature sound, which we hear in Humbug (as well as in Alex's side project The Last Shadow Puppets, which came between Favourite Worst Nightmare and Humbug). I love everything they've done, I've loved seeing how they've evolved. They're easily my favourite band of this century. I don't think they have a bad album in their catalogue. I can't wait for the new one.
THE STROKES AND AM are the best thing that ever happened in my life. I can't wait to see the review of A Certain Romance. You should do All AM, All Strokes and all Voidz albums.
Awesome he mentioned the 1950s feel on Only Ones Who Know, please show him the version with Richard Hawley on RU-vid it’s literally a 50’s version & it’s beautiful
Not really lol they are killing it and have half a million subs and probably will hit a million by next year lol. Once they react to house of balloons they will hit it
After hear you talking about the maturity in 505 and described it as "cheesy", I bet you'll love Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino, but you gotta go through all the albums in between (and maybe Everything You Come to Expect) to notice that sweet evolution
You guys are awesome! You gotta do their whole discography I’m sure your dad would love their first album as well! Alex turner is such a brilliant lyricist
I love your analysis at the end how while it’s a really great sound throughout the album, it’s going to potentially get old which is why 505 is so great but also the fact that every single album is uniquely different and every album feels like a different band is why they’ve been able to survive over the last 15 years because they try different things.
This video is so fun to watch, I genuinely get so happy hearing other people talk about stuff that I really enjoy. Favorite Worst Nightmare is one my absolute favorite albums and my first ever vinyl. Also, the dad is very funny "To me it's a no skipper" "Wow!...I need some tea right now" so relatable man. I love how he appreciates everything from the base to the lyrics as well, something that not a lot of people do. What a legend.
I recently picked this one up on CD at a car boot sale for less than £1. I listen to it when I deliver pizzas in the evening and it makes the shifts so much more fun. Love this channel guys thank you so much it’s kept me going through a challenging patch, can’t wait to hear more!
I am so envious of the dad here that gets to “discover” Arctic Monkeys now. I heard my first AM song in 2017 and got to know everything up to AM all at once.
Just watched them live 2 days ago and they were absolutely amazing. Didn’t play all the hits but had some deep cuts in there, which I really loved. One of the best going!
Fun fact (Kevin will probably find it interesting) but the organ at the start of 505 is actually a sample from Ennio Morricone’s score to The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. Sick video btw, only recently started watching the channel but glad I did! 👍
Mega! This album/band marked the beginning of my exploration into genres that I didn't grow up listening to as well as music from another country. So glad to see Kevin get introduced in this way!
Not sure if it was covered on the uncut version but what makes this album even more amazing considering how good the lyrics are and the maturity of the themes. is that Alex Turner would have been a teenager when he wrote this. Mind blowing when you listen back to it.
