this one definitely sits at the top for me, an album full of songs that are perfect for the entire vibe/feel of what she has gone/going through at the time , you should definitely listen to the rest of her discography w your dad ! also i luv this omg imma subscribe :)
Thank u next is the best for sure. Then I think dangerous woman, sweetener, my everything, yours truly and then positions is just....idk, didn't hit it for me
"Imagine" has a crazy sad meaning. Notice how everytime she ask can you imagine there's no answer. Because he's not here. At the end when she asks "can you" she answers herself cuz she can't get over him. In my opinion this album deserved Album of the Year at the Grammys, unfortunately the academy snubbed her and she went home empty handed, but she doesn't need an award to be a legend.
@@watercreamspalace sorry but, touch it is definitely the best song off that album. Listen if you got to experience that song live, it’s like going to literally heaven.
NOT SO* fun fact about ghostin: there was actually supposed to be a third verse, but she had a hard time recording it. she ended up filling the space with the harmonies we hear at the end.
the fact that ariana wrote and produced this whole album in less than 2 weeks it’s actually insane! you guys should really do positions next. for us, fans, this album is a completely healing continuation from thank u, next
Sounds like it lol Imagine was a good song but all her albums and music after dangerous woman is pure tr@sh, except maybe no tears left to cry and of course imagine but everything else...tr@sh..7 rings has to be one of the worst songs I've ever heard..in every way
@@jadebel7006 omg 😭😭😭 i’m sorry it just don’t hits you, but i can’t see it as trash even looking at it as someone who just doesn’t like it. i mean, lyrically deeper and well produced than her oldest works such as DW. i personally don’t like sweetener that much, i think it’s experimental concept works just at some point. but bro TUN and Posy are just such well worked projects!
ghostin is openly speaking to pete (her fiancé at the time of mac passing) and apologizing to him for not being able to “ghost” mac after his death and ultimately breaking up with him (pete)
I feel like with this album its also important to remember that not only did she lose mac and has years worth of internet hate but she also has Manchester on her back where her concert was literally bombed and the intensive therapies she had to go through for so many different reasons. i always throught ghostin was written for pete since they were still dating while recording this album. But it is obviously still a love song for mac and how she has and will continue to move on from him but he will always be in her life and any boyfriend she has will have to be understanding of that
A cool theory about this whole album is that the cover is upside-down, which means that the tracklist should also be upside-down. So track 1 is actually BUWYGIB, and the last track should be Imagine. That's why the sound of the whole album kind of feels weird because it's supposed to be the other way around.
OHH that’s cool didn’t think of that. She said the reason why it’s upside down is to represent that her life was upside down while recording it and she ended the album with BUWYGIB bc she wanted to end it fun. But that’s such a smart theory I love that.
@@fan7708What she said about her life feeling like it was upside down was about Sweetener. But they were during the same era so it still applies to thank u next.
I’m not really an Ariana grande fan but I really liked the reaction. I always love hearing people’s opinions and interpretations of songs. I definitely enjoyed hearing these songs more now than I did back when they were released. They were SO big. I remember being confused back in the day by the almost back to back sweetener TYN as someone who wasn’t a fan, like how many singles does this girl have?!? Not realizing it was two albums.
Yes, between sweetener and thank u next there is only 6 months. Sweetener singles are no tears left to cry, god is a woman and breathin (from april to august). Her life went trough a lot since that so she wrote and came back with thank u next (a surprise release in november) then 7 rings in january and break up with your girlfriend in february). They were very very short eras and both with little amount of singles (3 each) but since they were close to each other it feels like a combined album/era. Sweetener was light and fun while tun was dark and sad. In fact her tour at the time was her only tour after 2 albums to promote them both and the merchandise was practically sweetener and thank u next related
But why why why always starting with „I‘m not really a fan of xyz …“ like wtf 😂 are you so scared that people might think you like that music? Why does everyone always do that?
loved that you dived deeply into the album and i agree with all your considerations, except for “bad idea” i think it’s a rlly perfect song. please do her album “My Everything” next❤
The outro for bad idea is supposed to be how Ariana feels after she does the bad idea. Like the first song up-tempo part is her getting excited/antsy about doing it, the (beautiful) strings before the outro are her giving into the bad idea it feels so good in the moment. The outro is her feeling like shit for doing it. She tries to repeat the "forget about it, forget about him, forget about me" motto she did in the first half of the song but it doesn't hit the same for her. Also the "Ari-chan!" and "Uh-huh!" (The voices in her head hyping her up) that followed after saying that motto are not there anymore because there isn't anything to hype her up about.
One thing that would be useful for you to understand and enjoy more in deep albums is that do a little research on the album before reacting, like for example things like the cover she was lying on the floor and still upside down because it was still very sweetener connected since it was just after 6 months between those two albums release. Ghostin sad and deep story, as well as imagine and needy, the verse of her dad on thank u next, who was the friend on the voice note of in my head and more little hints would be fun and interesting to know :) sorry if this was a little too long
also that in the breathing music video she hinted some tracks from this album and one of them was called reMeMber which was entire about Mac miller so after it being so personal she decided not to include it on the album and replaced it with break up with your girlfriend. This album is my favorite because is her most personal and it actually shows another side she didn’t want on sweetener, sweetener was something so fun and light and it doesn’t even have a ballad, while here in thank u next she’s actually accepting sad situations and how it is part of life, all that process in 4 months, this is just amazing
@@nononoyup8494I think it's interesting how remember felt more personal to her than ghostin. I feel like ghostin is definitely a deeper and more detailed dive into her mind and feelings and what happened with Pete, while remember is sad and sweet but very simple in it's message: I still miss you and you didn't deserve to go so soon.
Thank you for these reactions. This is the first time I have really listened to Ariana Grande. I love your perspectives from two different generations. Keep it up!
I really like this reaction video. My only criticism is, that 7 rings is not really a flex track. It is full of irony, and sadness, actually. It is a role or attitude she put on to deal with or bypass her grief.
Wohoo I love that you’re doing an Ari album again! You need to listen to Positions next! I would also recommend the VEVO live session, they’re crazy good
what makes this album so sad is knowing that this was what she was creating as a way to let go of all her emotions. she healed herself by making music and was kind enough to let us in on her emotions. she could have not addressed what she went through at all but she opened herself up which was very brave knowing how the media is.
Love this reaction! This album is so special and as a mac miller fan its hard for me to listen to it without thinking of him. I feel like you would both enjoy a Hozier album, literally any of them
Dunno if you are taking recomendations, but i like your reactions and i would love to see a florence and the machine reaction to one of her albums. Her last three albums have a slightly similar vibe to folklore and evermore, and i think you would enjoy. Also her lyrics and themes are deep and thought provoking and her voice is straight up heavenly
I believe in 'imagine', she's singing to Mac which makes it even that much more depressing since it's a life they'll never be able to have since he's passed. I like 'needy' and 'NASA' being back to back because it does kinda show the swing of emotions within a relationship like sometimes you are super needy and sometimes you want some space and the balance between the two might be inconsistent. 'bloodline', 'bad idea', and 'make up' are just fun, pop, dance songs that I do think were needed to offset the heavier songs on the album. Y'all hit the nail on the coffin with 'fake smile' and I love the message. 'ghostin' is so depressing and heartbreaking but also it's by far her most vulnerable song in her entire discography. The "he just comes to visit me when I'm dreaming every now and then" gets me every time. Like you guys pointed out, there is a connection between 'ghostin' and 'in my head' and I love how the production kinda paints the picture of confusion even more. '7 rings' isn't a flex song but more of a therapy song in a way. Like it's her essentially admitting that she's trying to use money to numb the pain she dealt with over the year period leading up to the making of this album with the concert bombing, the failed engagement, and the death of her ex. 'thank u, next' is a brilliant song of moving on and thanking past relationships for growth and it changes the tone of the album near the end to one of optimism and happiness which is why the finale of 'break up with your girlfriend, i'm bored' is a good placement cause it carries over that happy, fun, lighthearted tone which will carry over into her next album. I know in the music video, the video gives the final track a bit more meaning by suggesting that Ariana is actually talking about herself in the song to Pete, trying to tell him to break up with her. It's a fun theory. One last thing I'll say is that this tracklist wasn't actually the original planned tracklist. Ariana Grande was still releasing singles from Sweetener when the lead single from this album released and in the music video for the final single of Sweetener, 'breathin', she releases a ton of tracklist easter eggs. 'break up with your girlfriend, i'm bored' was actually not originally on the album. Instead, another song was meant to be on the album, stylized as: 'reMeMber' with the two m's being capitalized to symbolize Mac Miller. Allegedly 'thank u, next' was going to be the closing track and this 'reMeMber' song was going to be one or two tracks away from the last track. It got scrapped a couple weeks before the album was released though. Why? Well, Ariana Grande didn't want to release it. In fact, she didn't want to release 'ghostin' either. Near the release of her album, she wanted to pull BOTH songs from the album as she decided they were wayyyy too personal for her and she didn't want to share them with the world. After much back and forth with her manager, Scooter Braun, he gave her the ultimatum that she could remove one of the two songs from the tracklist, but not both. Thus, 'reMeMber' was scrapped near-last second and replaced with 'break up with your girlfriend, i'm bored'. So this album could've gotten even deeper. Because of this story, though, along with how 'ghostin' was supposed to have an extra verse but Ariana just couldn't get through it in recording without breaking down AND how she's never performed it live and has stated she WILL NEVER perform it live cause of how personal it is, makes me feel a bit icky about the song. It's GORGEOUS and legitimately one of her best ever, but I hate that she didn't want to share it with us due to how personal and vulnerable it was for her yet her management essentially forced her into putting it on the final album tracklist. If she chose 'ghostin' over 'reMeMber', though, I can only imagine how much more personal and vulnerable 'reMeMber' is...
Loved how y’all reviewed this! I watched your review of sweetner too and I agree Thank You Next is superior! You gotta do Positions next. Three albums in three years?! It’s her classic run!
@@putyouon oh, maybe when Mike says something about favorite things? Sorry I couldn’t make out exactly what he said 😅 I love that sampling though so I had to make sure it was mentioned, haha 😆
I would love to see you react to Butterfly by Mariah Carey album. One of the best R&B albums of all time. Her vocals and songwriting are insanely good! And Ariana looks up to her a lot :)
Loved your reaction! This is my #2 favourite album by her! I hope you check out Yours Truly, My Everything, Dangerous Woman & Positions albums by her!😊
y’all gotta listen to jaguar 2 by victoria monét. she’s ariana’s best friend and they’ve worked on many songs together. also you can hear her vocals specifically at the end of ghostin.
I love Ariana because of her lyrics and especially her voice and yourself and your Dad touch on those aspects and more. This is awesome, thank you both!!
You guys should check out Lemonade by Beyonce (if you havent already)! I think you guys would appreciate the fact that its a concept album of the stages of dealing with a spouse cheating on you, starting with suspicion and denial, moving to anger and sadness, and then eventually in her case, forgiveness.
Really loved this video esp how you guys analyse the meaning of the lyrics as well, i laughed, cried and remembered how much I love Ariana as a person and artist, I think you guys should react to Rosalia honestly any of her albums are fire to me but maybe motomai is exquisite!
Love ur reactions. Can’t wait to see the dangerous woman album reaction, but i think would be more logical if u check the postions album reaction first. Like that u will continue with this triology.
i would absolutely love you guys to do a bts reaction. the group is very musically driven and they prioritise lyricism/production as it’s all self done, so it would be interesting to see your thoughts on it. they do sing in korean so you can pull up the translations if you want, they have 4 vocalists and 3 rappers who have rap verses on every song so keep that in mind. my personal favourite album of theirs is called love yourself: tear and it’s normally very favoured by producers / musicheads so i’d recommend giving it a try, they’d surprise you! also, i think i’ve kinda grasped both of you guys’ taste as much as i can and another ariana album i think would hit even harder would be dangerous woman for y’all, or yours truly, her debut album if you wanna experience her more technical vocals. it’s also kinda a 2000s throwback but very different to pharrels approach production wise on sweetner, but it’s amazing regardless
I recommend you listening to the album PORTALS by alternative artist Melanie Martinez. It´s a concept album about what´s in between death and life. It has incredibly well written lyrics with a lot of metaphores and storytelling i think you would enjoy. If you know the album please like the comment, so they can see it.
If you’re talking about Billie eilish Taylor’s vocals are better you probably haven’t even seen her performances just certain ones people post were they’re not amazing but she writes better then them both
