He was what held Pro Era and the whole Beast Coast collective together. When he passed they all drifted from the sound and groups. AKthaSavior makes drill now. Steez was too integral to the whole movement
I stand by Hardknock being my favourite hip hop song ever made. Ridiculous lyricism for a 17 year old.. Loved watching you two listen to this one. Classic mixtape
Same for me! Joey’s hungriness and lyricism on this song make it one of the tracks that encapsulates the best the essence of what Hip hop trully is, on my opinion.
This tape was by my side all the way through high school, and it has left such vivid memories of those times that every time I listen to this I can’t help but reminisce. This has such a special feel to it, and it’s so much fun as well. You really can’t ask for much more. I’m sure many people feel the same way, that’s just what this type of music does
Really wish you guys caught that line on Daily Routine at 32:22 “traded in my Nikes for a new mic, I guess it’s safe to say he sold soul (sole) for his new life” One of Joey’s best ever bars 🔥
1999 is my personal fav hip hop album of all time. Something about it is just so real and unfiltered just a kid and his friends venting about their lives and dreams. So so good
This album blew my fucking mind when it dropped and continues to stay in my rotation to this day. Joey's nothing short of an incredible emcee, and his growth as an artist throughout the years has been a pleasure to tune in to
I really feel like this was the most relatable mix tape ever. All 90's babies could really feel every verse, from the school references to the friends. They really kilt this. Y'all gotta listen to "2000" soon.
i love the fact your dad really appreciated righteous minds, not only is it one of the best songs on that tape, but i think it comes across as very powerful because it's one of the few moments on the entire thing where he stops all puns, and that really sells the image of the hard life he faces.
This album holds a special place in my heart. Arguably one of the best pieces of hip hop in the last century. Brings me back to my first car rolling swishers to third eye shit and all the other stuff we did when we were young. Insane for a 17 year old yet ironic it reminds me of when I was 17. I would give anything to hear this album for the first time again, but it still hits the same after the countless times I've listened to it. Absolute classic.
This mixtape is so amazing. Almost feel bad for Joey, imagine peaking at 17. Don’t get me wrong, he’s got some bangers after, but nothing tops this for me
This is such an L, b4.da.$$ and all amerikkkan badass are 100% better than 1999, I will say tho it was disappointing how 2000 showed very little artistic evolution since 1999.
Life changing first project from Joey Bada$$! Crazy he was 16-17 when we wrote this. His discography only gets better and better. Summer Knights, B4Da$$, All Amerikkkan Badass and 2000.
@@steezylingling ahh my guy those hold such a special place in my heart man it’s pure hiphop. Definitely give them a listen Summer Knights is one of the best mixtapes of all time. B4da$$ is his first studio album under a label. It is truly amazing to witness the growth you are gonna love both projects 🔥
our friend / fellow reaction youtuber Bob actually did 1999 recently, if you feel like watching another reaction ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ANoyX1lkDDQ.htmlsi=BIJuhVGVFFtaIVDm
@@turningthetablesRight haven't watched much from him yet though, I have his reaction to Piñata in sight. By the way will you react to more of Madlib and some projects from The Alchemist?
I still remember the day I stumbled on him and heard Hardknock. Still one of the best hip hop songs of all time. That song made me a fan for life. Pennyroyal is amazing too. PRO ERA
It's beautiful to get to sit and bump this classic mixtape with y'all and watch another generation get into some Joey Steez and P.E! We out here vibin' to some absolute fire. Love how into the bars Kevin is getting 😂
One of my favorite projects of all time! I definitely get why people compare it to Illmatic, since Joey was equally as old as Nas when he wrote it. You also have a combination of mostly laid back, jazzy type beats and great lyricism but hard tracks like Hardknock or Survival Tacticts as well, on which you can really hear Joey's hunger and passion, similar to Nas' on NY State of Mind for instance. It may not be nearly as influential as Illmatic has been on the culture but especially for my generation this tape holds a special place in a lot of our hearts.
You guys should've listened to the original Funky Ho's track with the proper sample. He had to re-record that song for streaming for sample issues a few years later. And yes, Joey's always said Doom and Nas are two of his favorite rappers. So the influence is definitely there. Quality music still all these years later. An absolute all-timer
As you can see by my pfp im a hugee PRO ERA fan!! rip steez, love that you and ur dad are so culturally in tune with hip hop music Joey is my favorite artist of all time you should do his AABA album next! im sure your pops would love the music and topics
Crazy how a few months ago I only had a song of Joey being in a feature with XXX and that was the only song I had of him then now I listened to his whole catalogue and I’m a HUGE fan!
I love that you covered this. I miss being a patron and hit some extremely hard times or else I still would be one ; but having this here helps me these days.
Holy man, this tape brings back so many memories, jammed this all the way through high school; was on repeat whenever me and the homies went out skating.
My friend showed me Joey Badass years ago. I remember hearing this album for the first time and being in complete aw. This man is truly the GOAT and you reactions were perfect
Snakes reminded that it is a crime that you haven’t covered a tribe called quest yet. The low end theory is a must and thank you 4 your service would be a fun watch if you hide the features from him
I used to think albums really only had a few good songs and a lot of filler tracks before I listened to this album when i was 15. This is the first album that I would just let play out start to finish. I used to fall asleep listening to this album is highschool. Its such a good vibration, cozy album. Just made me happy listening to it.
When I first listened to this I instantly fell in luv with and still love it. Album always puts a smile on my face whenever it comes on in my playlist. One of my favorite mixtapes of all time
This video reminds me of why i fell in love with this album and if it wasn't for this album I wouldn't have even bothered appreciating the old school hip hop scene. I'm gonna be listening to the full thing from start to finish with no skips for months to come. Easily one of the best tapes from the past decade
You talking about joeys freestyle over the crowd was great, I was there in Edinburgh and it’s funny to see the two of you talking about something I experienced after watching you for a while now. This is one of the best debut projects of all time imo
Oh shit how the fuck did I miss this reaction? This is my favourite hip hop project of all time probably. And also the project that really got me into hip hop.
My favorite album of all time. Being sixteen it is surreal to think that a kid my age was able to produce music of this quality. Joey is my favorite artist because I feel like he is sitting in the room when he is talking to me
