I hope this isn’t super cringe, but I’ve so enjoyed watching you guys talk about music on this channel and especially this video. It makes me think of my own dad. He passed away just 3 days before this album was released, but I didn’t even hear it until a couple months ago. He was a quieter dude but one of his absolute life long loves was music. I just know he would have loved this album if I had showed it to him and I guess I keep replaying this video to live vicariously through you guys sharing this with each other. Sorry if this comment is a little heavy lol, I just really appreciate this video and watching you two bond this way is really beautiful and precious to me ❤
Missing your dad could never be cringe. It's very sweet. I think about listening to new music with my dad too but he died 5 years ago. it's very normal.

I wonder if the "sample" his pops was thinking of for After Last Night was Bootsy's song called What's a Telephone Bill? Very similar vibe. Just shows how well these two artists and really everyone that had their hands on this album captured the old school funk feel.
Anderson Pak is a generational songwriting talent who grew up in the soul scene, and Bruno Mars is obsessed with 80s and 70s-era motown. They definitely had the chops to perfectly capture that authentic sound without much sampling.

Okay one more lol I saw them live in Vegas during their residency in March! Life changing, best musical experience I’ve ever had. The band is NEXT LEVEL! Lots of comedy, showmanship, and commitment to the bit. And Bruno played 4 different instruments during the course of the show; Anderson hopped on drums a few times; horns section is my favorite! And live shows it is Bruno’s band, has been with them 10-ish + years (The Hooligans); but for Silk Sonic they had Maurice Brown on trumpet, who works with Anderson regularly.
One of my favorite records of the last 10 years. It's amazing the beauty that grows from two musically gifted individuals sitting in a room together creating. I'm praying their schedules allow for them to bless us with another record at some point cause this can't be a one and done. It's too damn special.
It was so good that bruno mars pulled out of album of the year for the grammys because he knew he was gonna win the award, and didn't wanna upset people 😂
@@RickyRegal. the only song that got released early enough to qualify for the 2022 Grammys was leave the door open, which one 4 Grammys by itself. All the other songs on the album are fair game for next years Grammys
Today, I picked my pops up from his house to head out to my aunt’s place. I’m huge on adjusting my playlists to fit who I’m riding with while still trying to introduce new music to them. He’s a big EW&F dan and has mentioned how much he likes Bootsy Collins. So, I chose to play Silk Sonic. And now I see that you two posted this… 🔥 🔥 definitely one of the best “bridging the gap” type of albums.
Your father is talking about Bootsy's song "I'd Rather Be With You" on 'After Last Night'....It gave me instant vibes of that song right off the top. This is a great reaction having your father sit in and do the reaction to this album!
Cool little note is that Bruno would perform that exact Bootsy track "I'd Rather Be With You" during his live performance of "Calling All My Lovelies". Definitely had inspiration from Bootsy for this track!
I just saw Bruno Mars live in Sydney last week, I really think he is the best live performer on earth! Anderson Paak is also one of my favorites, this duo is unbeatable.
The sample you guys were talking about in 777 is from the Jacksons… the song’s called can you feel it. Anderson makes a few mj references in the song too. You guys are right tho… there are so many of these little “samples” paying homage to the awesome music of that time, and they’re done so well. I enjoyed watching you guys 😊
I loved that you let him listen to the bonus track, it’s the best! I had no idea it was a remake, I was listening to it in the car with my pops last week and he brought it up that it was a remake of Con Funk Shun’s song, which I thought was pretty cool. I enjoyed watching you two review this album. It's my favorite in a long time. I went to Las Vegas and saw them in concert a couple of months ago. They are true entertainers. Bruno played bongo's on skate, he also plays drums, piano, guitar, and Harmonica. He's a one man band.
@@SkammLykelee I said that Bruno played the Bongos in Skate. Piano and Harmonica aren't used in Skate to my knowledge. I just mentioned that he can also play those other instruments. I may not have been clear the way that I said it. He's a multi instrumentalist.

It's just that because we've known him for over a decade and Anderson was relatively unknown, many people think Bruno is pulling all the weight in this group. After seeing Anderson's concerts with the Free Nationals (see their GrubHub concert), it's clear he is on a par with Bruno as a musician. And that's why they're so amazing as a team.
@@SkammLykelee I totally understand. After listening to Leave the Door Open when it came out I checked everything that I could find out about Anderson because I had never heard of him prior to that. I've watched the Tiny Desk performance at least 50 times and many of his other RU-vid concerts too. I love Anderson and he's just as talented as Bruno just in a different way. Anyone who is in to Silk Sonic should see that.
@@Tessiefaye I agree. I have been a fan of Bruno since he first came on the scene. And like you, I didn't know much about Anderson. After seeing him with the Free Nationals (tremendous musicians themselves), I have profound respect for his talent. As you said, quite different. Decidedly less commercial and because of that, he is grossly underrated. Being a longtime would-be musician, I appreciate talent in all musical genres.
I think they also only did 9 tracks to keep in with the old school theme, where the records were short and sweet! Loved your dads reaction to Loves train it was amazing !!
I mean both were so good together that they won 4 Grammy's a literal clean sweep from Leave the Door Open during 2022. Those two were talented and won Grammy's before, but when they came together they made magic together with this album which led to more Grammy's.

By no means am I a Bruno fan however always thought he was brilliant when I first heard him on songs like “Nothing On You” with B.O.B,”Billionaire”,and “Lighters” with Eminem,but with this particular album I must say it’s a modern day classic this album will become the vessel in which the New Generation can get into soulful music and other classic old school jams and i truly love the samples they used without apprehending the songs cause these are well known classic that are engraved into our brains I will say this album was truly WELL DONE!👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽✍🏽✨💯
This has to be one of the dopest albums ever and I am a female I love the storyline of the whole album it was a total vibe for me even though I am a late seventies baby but I grew up around this type of music so it's easy for me to adjust to But the drum arrangement on smoking out the window is crazy i love the drums can't play a lick 🤣🤣🤣 nice to see you and pops again i lost mines in 2021 going to Bruno in Vegas next year

The Silk Sonic band is a mixture of the Hooligans(Bruno's band) and the Free Nationals(Anderson's band) actually. If you see their live performances at award shows you'll see the mixture. Also, Put On A Smile they had Babyface on the backing vocals because not even Bruno could get that high for some parts. lol On the album Anderson wouldn't let Bruno on the drums though Bruno plays those( as well as piano and guitar) so he put Bruno on the Bongos since he plays percussion thanks to Bruno being in his father's tribute band back when he was a kid. Honestly, Blast Off is my FAVORITE song on this album! I am STILL OBESSED with this song to this day. For me the ending could have gone on longer. But that's because I actually smoke to the song. The ending, each time they took it up another note, feels like I'm floating higher and higher into the universe on fluffy clouds. And every time Bruno asks "Can we take it up higher?" and the band responds" Yeahhhhh" I take another hit and get higher lol and then Bootsy just seals the experience with "All the way from the stratosphere. Sendin' love from up above. Happy trails Baba." Blessing my experience with good vibes and protection. Also, I love the fact the Bootsy is still above me in the clouds like I still a wayssssss to go before I can even tough how high he is. lol Blast Off just gives me all the vibes. BTW, Anderson toured with Bruno when Bruno did the international leg of his Unorthodox Jukebox tour and that when they started writing music together. Once the lock down happened Bruno was in the studio like what if we can never perform live again? So he called Anderson told him to come to the studio to finish the song the started years ago. But Anderson was celebrating his birthday so he came through but he was LIT lol so they started playing around and really got into it. They decided they should record an album of what they thought would be the best live set they could ever play. Then Bootsy came through and listen to some of it and named their band Silk Sonic. And the rest is history.

To capture the era they did consult with musicians/writers from that period -Love's Train was IS a COVER released after album -Studio band & Performance Band are composed of those who fit the project many were unaffiliated with the primary artists exclusively

I have watched a lot of reaction videos, but I have never enjoyed one quite so much as watching this one with you to bonding with this music. The world needs more of this for sure.
Your pops would love the Anderson Pakk album Ventura. Also a fun fact Bootsy is the one that gave them the name Silk Sonic. Boosty is actually featured on this album alot.
Love this reaction!!! Bruno and Anderson are just different. They both are true musicians. Just to let you know Bruno was playing bongos he also plays other instruments.
I don’t think they used a single sample on this album: Bruno and Anderson are all about playing instruments for real. (And they and their musician mates have the chops to do pretty much whatever they want). It’s old school, in the best sense. In fact they used a lot of old school recording techniques on this one, which adds to the throwback vibe.
