Probably my favourite Squeeze song closely followed by 'Cool for cats'. It was inspired by a 1965 BBC TV play about the love lives of three working class young women factory workers in South London (Clapham Junction). The gritty realism was controversial back then especially as it featured a back street abortion.
If you want to learn UK slang then Cool For Cats is the song to listen to. Most of the lyrics will go over your head. In one of his final interviews before he was murdered, John Lennon named Squeeze as one of his favourite bands at the time.
Wow! So weird to think that even for guys of his age - let alone kids - this song is as much a historical artefact as, say, "Rock Around the Clock" was to me!
