This song help save my life in 2015 I overdosed on pills I took two bottles of my anxiety meds. After I woke up and went home 4 days later my bestie played this album and Forrest Hills Drive helped saved me literally every time I wanted to die i played the album.
That line changed how I perceive life. Im very competitive in all parts of life and used to always worry when I was younger I’d never have the best life, then hearing that made me realise that I can be happy as possible now as long as I’m grateful, and even in my future success I will make sure to be grateful for every thing I have in life down to the most fundamental levels.
Just to clarify on this discussion you two are having, Hip Hop has always had conscience rappers. Early 80's hip hop talked about social issues, in the 90's there were still afro centric songs and political commentary in rap. J Cole and Kendrick Lamar are a part of a long legacy. While rappers have always bragged and showed off they have equally been advocates for their communities. We used to call rappers street reporters. The talk of gangs, drugs, parties, and drama were all like headlines from the hood.
The song made me settle with my then girlfriend now wife. I realised i was chasing after a fake life and i decided to love mine and make my grass greener..now i have a family and growing stronger by the day Thankyou cole for the masterpiece.
While you're on J Cole you should play "Be Free" for you dad. Do the live version on David Letterman where you can really hear the pain and passion in his voice.
Oh No! I can't watch that day. "Be Free" makes me cry every time I hear J Cole perform that song on letterman. He has not performed that song since being on letterman. He says that it takes him to a dark place that is hard to come back from. It's incredible; it takes me to a sad, but hopeful place. He is speaking for me. Love it and him.
@@thinkbeforeitsillegal right 😂😂I’ve never seen anyone say bone thugs is overrated before if anything after alll these years in a way they are still underrated not many folks have even heard or been exposed to their music 🤦♀️
"Love Yourz" Love yours Love yours No such thing No such thing as a life that's better than yours No such thing as a life that's better than yours No such thing as a life that's better than yours No such thing, no such thing Heart beatin' fast, let a nigga know that he alive Fake niggas, mad snakes Snakes in the grass let a nigga know that he arrived Don't be sleepin' on your level cause it's beauty in the struggle nigga Goes for all y'all It's beauty in the struggle nigga (Let me explain) It's beauty in the struggle, ugliness in the success Hear my words or listen to my signal of distress I grew up in the city and though some times we had less Compared to some of my niggas down the block Man, we were blessed And life can't be no fairytale, no once upon a time But I be God damned if a nigga don't be tryin' So tell me mama please why you be drinking all the time? Does all the pain he brought you still linger in your mind? Cause pain still lingers on mine On the road to riches listen this is what you'll find The good news is nigga you came a long way The bad news is nigga you went the wrong way Think being broke was better No such thing as a life that's better than yours No such thing as a life that's better than yours No such thing as a life that's better than yours No such thing, no such thing For what's money without happiness? Or hard times without the people you love Though I'm not sure what's 'bout to happen next I asked for strength from the Lord up above Cause I've been strong so far But I can feel my grip loosening Quick, do something before you lose it for good Get it back and use it for good And touch the people how you did like before I'm tired of living with demons Cause they always inviting more Think being broke was better Now I don't mean that phrase with no disrespect To all my niggas out there living in debt Cashing minimal checks Turn on the TV see a nigga Rolex And fantasize about a life with no stress I mean this shit sincerely And that's a nigga who was once in your shoes Living with nothin' to lose I hope one day you hear me Always gon' be a bigger house somewhere, but nigga feel me Long as the people in that motherfucker love you dearly Always gon' be a whip that's better than the one you got Always gon' be some clothes That's fresher than the ones you rock Always gon' be a bitch that's badder out there on the tours But you ain't never gon' be happy till you love yours No such thing as a life that's better than yours No such thing as a life that's better than yours No such thing as a life that's better than yours No such thing, no such thing Heart beatin' fast, let a nigga know that he alive Fake niggas, mad snakes Snakes in the grass let a nigga know that he arrive
Your Dad is really great at digesting the lyrics and appreciating the music as a whole! Definitely gotta do more J Cole songs like (03 adolescence,False prophets,4 your eyez)
This album holds so much weight in my heart. It came out when I was 21 trying to decide what I should do with my life. Which path I should take. Then this album came out and helped me choose the right path.
I love that your dad gets kinda flabbergasted, imo. Great song and Artist. Dad, did you know he also is playing semi pro BB in Canada? Well for a season anyway hope to see him continue playing. He’s very good! Great channel Kai.
I wish the grammy board would have the type of musical objectivity you two have, because there are alot of artists out there that got overlooked for recognition, solely based on the fact that the people voting were not objective enough to take their personal feelings about certain genres of music out of the equation.
Probably my new favorite channel yo. Song selections for these reactions are fire dude. If youre looking for intense, vivid storytelling at its finest, yall should look into immortal technique.
Have you heard K'naan - Stir it up? It's the same Fatima song over Bob Marley's Stir it up, I used to have that song on repeat. This comment took me back!
"I Can" by Nas is one that he would definitely love. "Crossroads" by Bone Thugs as well. "Until The End of Time" by Tupac is one of my favorites...I think he'd like too❤
I would love for you to go to one of the first conscious rap records called "The Message" by Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five. It's a true hip hop classic!
I’m a firm believer that Cole’s mixtapes showcased his talent the best. Particularly The Warm Up and Friday Night Lights. Here are some songs to react to: -Can I Live -I Get Up (!!) -Hold it Down -The Badness (!!) -Lights Please -Get Away
@@vlabri88 it's debatable lyrically and artistically he's way better then his mixtape days although he was already really good now he's a great but it's all perspective with the music everyone gravitate 2 I suppose
Worth mentioning that he actually made a splash on the mixtape scene in the late 2000's with a heavy skew towards socially conscious hip hop. On his first album, however, he felt the pressure to release braggadocio songs in order to chase commercial success. This album was a return to his roots, as symbolized by him naming it after his childhood home address and buying the same house from that time.
I would love to see you guys react to the whole album. Forrest hills is one of my all time favorite albums. Hard to skip any track. When I feel a certain type of way in life I listen to this album. Thanks for your videos.
yes same here, def top 5 maybe 3 for me. One of few albums I can always listen to front to back, liking every song. Was glad I caught him on tour that year cause he performed the whole album start to finish
Love this channel! Please do The Message by The Grandmaster Flash. One of the first mainstream songs to have a social commentary on problems within the inner cities.
You only get one life. Make the best out of it and if you feel yourself being dragged down by bad thoughts dug yourself out because you will appreciate it more because YOU did it. Good luck to you! 😘
@@blackqueenmelanin1449 You're amazing! Such positive vibes and a beautiful aura coming out of your message. I hope you have the most amazing life ahead ✨
Thanks so much Josh, that makes me feel good about what we are doing. Really appreciate you watching and I’m glad it was able to affect you in a positive way❤️
I’ve waited for this day! Cole holds a huge place in my life and my heart. I’ve seen him at every show he’s done in LA since I’ve been a fan. This video truly touched the heart.
Love the channel. Going here makes me think you need to let Pops hear some Nipsey. I'm a 48yo Black male that grew up in the Bay Area, CA who moved to FL in my 20's. Didn't really appreciate what Nip was doing until he was killed...
J Cole - 4 Your Eyes Only (track) I just listened to that song the other day and it hit me harder now than it did when I first heard it. I think your dad would really like that one.
I really enjoy you two. Great concept. you never go wrong with j.cole. My son is the one who turned me on to j.Cole and he is now one of my favorite rapper today. If you get a chance could you please do a listen to Mr. Wendell by Arrested Development. Thanks for sharing.
I have a different one for you .. this song helped me personally get thru suicidal times in my life it’s callled Sorry by Joyner Lucas .. this song still gets me till this day . There’s two parts to the story in the one song .. if you do listen I would want you to both blindly listen .. please and thank you in advance if you do
J Cole has so many good songs. It's so hard to choose from. Some of my favorite projects from him is his Truly Yours Mixtape, along with Friday Night Lights and of course, 2014 Forest Hills Drive.
I always have ideas of songs that you should react to but honestly, I love just sitting back and seeing what you do. Love the channel, love what you guys do
“There’s no such thing as a life that’s better than yours” - every life is valuable and nothing is worth more than a life regardless of how difficult it is or how much you struggle. Your life is just as valuable as those who have it better and those who have it worse
The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence, but chasing those materialistic pleasures won’t ever fulfill you. You always be chasing the next thing, car, house, job, woman etc etc You have to appreciate the things that you have, the real things, then you will finally learn to love yourself and in turn those around you (who actually love you for you). I think that’s what Cole was trying to express or at lest what I get from it. Great song choice btw and God Bless ☦️
I will never understand how it’s possible to make such a masterpiece. Cole really changed the way so many people see life with this incredible song, my favourite artist of all time no doubt.
Liked the video before I even watched it lol. I have “Love Yourz” tattooed across my collar bone. Thank you for continuing to keep an open mind. Have a great week.
Conscious rap has always been around. Most Def(one of my favs), Talib Kweli, KRS One, Dead Prez, Queen Latifah Most rappers are some blend of conscious themes and flexing.
LOVE J Cole ❣️ his music literally touches your soul. Young Old soul. My favorite "new" rappers are J, Kendrick and Wale😍 they are some of the last Mohicans saying REAL things ❣️ would love to see a J Cole: Middle child reaction 🤞
Review "Beautiful" by Eminem. So thankful for your channel! Your dad is so compassionate and it's so nice to see him be so open-minded when it comes to this genre of music.
