The fact that pops refereanced the chrome wheels with Lupe fiasco’s song just shows how into this he is and how much he’s paying attention to the small detail… you two are absolute legends!!
Got a couple of recommendations fellas…..Stan by Eminem…..mind playing tricks on me by geto boys….through the wire by kanye west….just a few songs that are hard to forget once you’ve heard em….channel is fire btw
Very true, but sad because just shows us how life is really limited, I'm sure they never started the podcast while thinking that one of them will be gone sooner😔
I love how your dad listens to rap with an open heart. A lot of ppl in his generation don't really like rap because they hear the cussing and the violence in the lyrics without trying to understand the music or the artist and they miss out on so much . Keep up the good work and props to your dad!
Its dope watching your dad picking up references to previous classics. Lines like "pacs gone and Brenda's still throwing babies in the garbage" would have gone over his head a few weeks or months ago. Some lyrics are so layered behind the vernacular. It'l be dope when he starts to peel back those layers.
@@ranmaster17 Not everyone will get every little bar, there’s songs I been listening to for years that I still find little double meanings and what not in
I find it so endearing how you peer over at your father while listening to gauge his reaction! Such a small but endearing gesture. I like the duo here. Very genuine.
"i aint going no where so you can get to know me" my favorite line. that line has helped me countless times when i felt out of place, when i was coming up and felt like i didnt belong. Made me have confidence to where i believed in myself and everyone else would have to get used to ME. Love it
Lol 50 is actually from South Jamaica, Queens NY. Keep up the great work. You and your pops do an excellent job. I love how your pops is so open minded.
I’m black and white with a white dad, and it’s so dope to see you be able to sit with him and play this for him and he actually be able to find something he likes about it. Keep rocking you guys 🙏🏽 I think you’re bringing the world closer together one video at a time. I even went to see my mom, and she was showing my dad your videos 😂😂 Have you done Black Thought - You Got me Ft. erykah badu?
@@nickb3345 hell yeah. A zebra, and any other name you can think of 😅 I know fam it’s rarely a white dad, but I hope being both has been a blessing more than a burden 🙏🏽
I got chills when he said “Brenda still throwing babies in the garbage” your dad got it right away. Shows how much he pays attention and takes it serious. Which I LOVE coming from a middle aged white male. Your dad had a huge heart and is very smart. I love how much he remembers from other songs you’ve shown him. I just love that you guys do this. In watching all of ur videos! Keep it up! I will be recommending some songs soon. But man, you’re doing such a great job picking songs. Especially since you’re younger than I am. I grew up on 90s hip hop and you’re picking a lot that I would pick.
Great reaction guys! I think his dad would love "Dreams" and "Start from scratch"! This album and his born 2 rap albums are both in my top 20 rap albums of all time!
I love how this song opened your mind to seeing how systemic racism/classism happens and why it's so hard to break it. Also, another beautiful breakdown by you and your dad. I love it, and I'm so glad to have found your videos. Thank you, and please keep them coming!
You gotta let your dad listen to Ghetto Boys. "My Mind is Playin Tricks On Me" ❤️ Love your channel. Just discovered you this morning. I've looked at all your videos except one! 🤫 😆
Your dad's attention and ability to weave the different song's references together is great. Shows he's actively listening and putting songs which build the culture and the history of hip hop together.. imagine being able to listen to the history of hip hop like this.. it's like bingeing a tv series..
You really need to introduce your pops to Rakim who is probably the most influential MC of the genre. The God MC. The GOAT. Your favorite rappers favorite rapper. He changed the game lyrically and pretty much influenced every MC after 1986. 50 Cent pays homage in his first verse when he says "... My favorite rapper used to say Check Check Out My Melody..." which is a class Rakim song.
The wheels are Dayton centrelocks. These are particularly popular and fitted to the "lowrider" cars, the bouncing ones a constant theme in south central LA area. Just a fun fact dad, kind regards Ben from NZ
Also known as Dayton Knock-offs, due to how you have to knock that center lock off. And also 100 spokes, as there’s supposedly a 100 wire spokes on each wheel, but I’ve never counted them lol.
maaaaaan…. I came across your channel by random, but these reactions with your dad are truly priceless. All of these songs you listen to him are also my personal favorites and seeing the family bond growing stronger between you and your dad is truly beautiful. please keep it up! y’all are amazing 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 thank you for sharing these experiences
I really hope you guys get at least a million subscribers. Your relationship is beautiful and love hearing you discuss the history of music. I’ve learned so much. Such a blessing to see your interactions. You both are great models for the relationship I hope to foster with my children one day.
I really appreciate how this venture gives you guys a chance to explore not just the music, but the cultural references and influences of the artists that inform the art. You guys are going to continue growing, and have a great potential to influence some of the more closed minded folks to open their hearts. Much appreciated. You've gotta get into some A Tribe Called Quest to get more of the jazz influences.
I love that your dad reads the lyrics. I've been listening to rap music for 25 years. I know it word for word, I still get great enjoyment of putting on a pac album and just reading the lyrics as it plays. Back in the day album covers used to have lyrics in them. Thats a memory I have just unlocked from watching this. I love this channel man.
That Bridging The Gap channel is great, I loved the dads reaction to Illmatic - big grin on his face after the first track all the way to the end.. "Now this.... this one... this one right here? This is what I'm talking about.. this is good rap!"
@@thattablebloke yeah the illmatic reaction was great and he really liked it, not so suprising since its arguably the best rap album of all time. i also liked the recent TES reaction too
I enjoyed Dad's reception to these songs. He does not even know these artists. He simply open to learning and gives them a chance. That is a true Melophile
Not only does dad listen to his sons preferred music and analyze and enjoy it with him, but he reveals to him at the same time what it means to have emotional depth through his responses. All the ingredients to make a loving, compassionate, open minded, and understanding person. Fathers, take notes.
The beat was produced by cool & Dre. It’s a sample from the trammps’ “rubber band” (1972). Just seen a video recently about it. Made me appreciate the song even more. Cool Video as always 👍🏻
Your next time listening check out the double play on words... 2nd "I didn't have 50 cent when my grandmother died " meaning flat broke and also 50 Cent himself... "now I'm headed back to Cali with my Jacob on now see how time flys" from flat broke to an expensive watch ⌚️ (Jacob) on a private jet see how time flies
Third verse "I used to watch 5 0 throw the crack by the bench... now I'm working with 5 0 it's all starting to make sense " meaning working with 50 cent.
Nas - Illmatic the entire album is incredible. Looking forward to your dad hearing Nas, Big Pun, Lauryn Hill, and more story tellers now that he is more versed in hip hop.
Awesome vibe with you and your dad. Just maybe a suggestion. Maybe have a system to have your father be able to see some of the video's simultaneously.
@@lite403 growing up in the Golden Era the video was so important to the song. Even today being an "old head" anything new by a new artist goes over my head without the visual and is hard for me to discover them. RU-vid being my main source to find music nowadays.
I enjoy watching you and your dad binding over a music genre that typically most Middle aged men don't like and surely don't respect! I love your guy's love! Rap early 90s 2000s hip hop is the best! Props to you pops for feeling and understanding and feeling the music that makes your son happy! Young man you are an inspiration and give me hope foe the youth!
Really love ur reactions, I really want to hear u react to these songs: Jay Z- song cry Nas- If I ruled the world The Game- My life Beanie Segal- feel it in the air
Not one of my favorite artist, but I enjoyed your perspective. Clue: East Coast = Boom Bap (Minimalist, bare-bones beats w/accents and highlights). West Coast = G-Funk (Soulful, R&B, a fuller sound musically; usually with heavy reverence to the 70's and early 80's rhythm and blues). Keep up the good work!
Another amazing reaction and review in a way, I never want this to end! I think something from Nas - Ilmatic or Late Registration by Kanye should be next by the way 😀
Great reaction as usual 🔥 I love how your dad is really trying to understand the music and how he genuinely likes to react to hip hop with you. You’ve got a awesome dad 💜
Love how open your dad is to hearing and appreciating this music, especially since it's obviously music you really enjoy. Rap/ hip-hop is my favourite genre - more specifically from the 90s. This channel could really go on and on because of how much good music came from that decade and the years after, that were inspired by artists from then. I found you guys from the Dear Mama video and I've watched the rest of the videos from there. Really really wholesome stuff. I like how he really tries to understand the lyricism. In saying that, if you don't mind, I have a few suggestions for songs 😅 • Dancing with the Devil - Immortal Technique 👀 I've never ever heard of or met someone unaffected by the song that's heard it • Sky's the Limit - Biggie • Passin Me By - The Pharcyde • 93 til Infinity - Souls of Mischief • Hood Took me Under - Compton's Most Wanted Excited to see what else you guys react to 😌
You guys should do a reaction to Immortal Technique- dance with the devil or Immortal Technique - you never know Notorious BIG- I got a story to tell (based on a true story) 2pac-I ain't mad at ya 2pac- only god can judge me 2pac- shed so many years Just some suggestions of song I like with great story telling.
Love seeing you guys bond over music ... Ya dad has a good ear and an open mind. Lucky to have a man like that to call dad 💯 Much Love Fellas.... Love this song too .... Shit still jams💯💯💯
As a kid growing up in the hood, the first time I listened to 50s line about wanting to make it out of the hood and never going back hit me hard. Thankfully I made it out. Never want to go back😂
"Hate It Or Love It" [50 Cent] Ya, let's take em back Uh huh Comin up I was confused my momma kissin a girl Confusion occurs comin up in the cold world Daddy ain't around probably out commitin felonies My favorite rapper used to sing ch-check out my melody I wanna live good, so shit I sell dope for a fo-finger ring One of them gold ropes NaNa told me if I pass could get a sheep skin coat If I can move a few packs and get the hat, now that'd be dope Tossed and turned in my sleep that night Woke up the next morning niggas done stole my bike Different day same shit, ain't nothing good in the hood I'd run away from this bitch and never come back if I could [Chorus (50 then Game):] Hate it or love it the underdog's on top And I'm gonna shine homie until my heart stop Go head' envy me I'm raps MVP And I ain't goin nowhere so you can get to know me Hate it or love it the underdog's on top And I'm gonna shine homie until my heart stop Go head' envy me I'm raps MVP And I ain't goin nowhere so you can get to know me [Game] On the grill of my lowrider Guns on both sides right above the gold wires I'll fo-five em Kill a nigga on my song but really do it Thats the true meaning of a ~ghostwriter~ 10 g'z will take ya daughter out of Air Forces Believe you me homie i know all bout losses I'm from Compton where the wrong colors be cautious One phone call will have ya body dumped in Marcy I stay strapped like car seats Been bangin since my lil nigga Rob got killed for his Barkley's That's 10 years I told Pooh in 95' I'd kill you if you try me for my Air Max 95s Told Banks when i met him imma ride And if I gotta die rather homicide I ain't have 50 Cent when my Grandmomma died Now i'm goin back to Cali with my Jacob on See how time fly? Recently discovered you guys & I love that you’re doing this with your dad. I grew up listening to rap so to hear the instruments & lyrics I missed has me really enjoying these.
I’m so happy about the growth of y’all channel. Definitely we’ll deserved! Y’all are completely different from other channels, y’all truly dive into the music and history. Even be teaching me stuff. Love it.
Pops is so awesome!!!!! His emotions to each song is crazy but also his memory to go back on certain artist is amazing!!! Love what y’all do we need more!!! More more more!!!! Love y’all!!!!!
The oooooh in the background is Mary j Blidge y’all have to listen to MVP. It’s the same beat… I believe it was her song first I can’t remember but she tells her story. Your dad will love Mary’s voice
My first suggestion would be "Rebirth of Slick (Cool Like That)" by Digable Planets. A 90's hip hop gem. My 2nd would be Ghostface Killah's "All That I Got Is You" its a tearjerker. "Dear Mama" is the Greatest Hip Hop song of all time to me and I've been watching your vids ever since. Kai I definitely see you as a music journalist one day and a great one at that. Keep up the great work. much love to you and Dad.
I can’t get enough of this! I love the father’s unadulterated openness to each song. Both of these guys are articulate and insightful in their reviews of the songs, both in regards to the music and the lyrics. Id love to see a review of Sublime at some point! Santeria, Garden grove, get ready, bad fish, etc. I know it’s out of the norm for the channel but it would be great! Keep it up guys. Cheers from a Maple Ridge fella!
