I understand it. It makes me sick of the vintage rides that they take out. I wish those foreigners didn't buy the park...all they do is destroy, destroy, destroy. Log Jammer, The Gold Rush, Raging Rappids....RIP! :(
Real Pittsburghese people are crying right now knowing their beloved ride is closing including myself. Rest in peace Log Jammer. We will never forget you.
Yinz remember how we used to fight not to sit on the part of the seat that was wet? Like we weren't about to ride a water ride and get all wet anyway. Gonna miss ya, Log Jammer.
Used to fight over who could sit in the back or front, whoever would get the least wet. And there were the debates, over what seat gets the least wet. The front, the back...
Sirius Malfoy Ha! We did that too. Matter of fact, my older step-brother lost his glasses in the water cuz we were still fighting while the log was in motion. We told his dad they fell off when we went down the big hill so we wouldn't get in trouble.
#JammerMemories Even my mom has memories of the jammer. When she was a kid, her older brother (my uncle) snuck a cup onto the ride, and when they were at the top part, he filled the cup and dumped it on everyone.
R.I.P. Log Jammer (1975-2017) Thank you for serving a huge part in the Heart of Pittsburgh and for making everyone happy. You will never be forgotten!!!!!!!!!
They should just leave it how it is and let us explore the whole thing. It will be a testament to how retail shopping died because of their inability to keep up with the wants of consumers
Timothy Welch- kind of like a history museum. But I agree. Century III could make a good indoor amusement park. Heck, I saw one video on RU-vid that looked like it already had some water rides from all the ceiling leaks.
chadeley Century 3 mall has a Merry go round in it, knock out the abandoned stores or stores that are not in use & they could fit some rides in it, etc. since its going to be indoors people can go in the winter time, etc.
Right?! That feeling of looking down the hill wanting to get soaked and yet not all at the same time?! I felt the anticipation all over again watching this. 😩
Rides may come & rides may go, but the memories will live in our hearts forever & ever. Auf Wiedersehen LOG JAMMER you will be missed & thanks for the memories.
Whenever I brought my kids back to Pittsburgh for visits I made sure we got to ride the log jammer at least twice in each visit to Kennywood... Sad to see it go...
I don't live in Pittsburgh but have visited many times and Kennywood is always a stop, and haven't gone a time without riding the log jammer, can't believe they are getting rid of it....
Tyler McCandless absolutely not. I was fine until the ride along and I got in my feels. Anywho... The Stillers are gonna beat them Vikings today. #HereWeGo
RIP log jammer. As recognizable in Pittsburgh as then name primantis. A true legend of the best city on earth. Waiting in line with my crush at the 5th grade school picnic to waiting in line with my wife 20 years later. How can this be so?!? That's like removing the Clemente bridge. Or shutting down the fountain at the point. Or completing construction on 60 (rt376). These are things that we expect to be there for our grandkids as pittsburghers. Life isn't fair. Great Chicago montage. Thanks for the memories! I'm 30 years old and am proud to say I've enjoyed the log jammer 100 times. Say a prayer as you go to go past the burial site please. The "jammer" deserves it. God speed jammer! God speed! I shared the same seat with every true pittsburgher! Arnold Palmer loved it. Mark Cuban sold fishing worms to get into Kennywood as a kid. Such an lame ride that still holds a mystique and nostalgic touch to us all! Sorry about the rant folks. I rarely comment but felt the need. 1 like from everyone who sat in that same uncomfortable seat as me!
Pittsburgh Dad I grew up in the same town as Robert Urich. Lived in Toronto Ohio my whole life till 8mths ago. He did so many good things for that town. Hes the reason they have amazing fireworks! 💜
My 5-year old cried when we watched this with me. He rode it about 5-6 times this year (first year riding it and it was his favorite ride). I hope they put up something similar for next year!
Used to fight over who could sit in the back or front, whoever would get the least wet. And there were the debates, over what seat gets the least wet. The front, the back...
I live in Texas and have never been to Pennsylvania let alone Pittsburgh, but i understand everything you say and your always so hilarious, keep it up! #STEELERNATION
You gotta try and make it up there to Kennywood, and take a walk around the city, it's beautiful. If you fly up get ready to be blown away by the view on the other side of the Fort Pitt tunnel!
Thanks for this, Pittsburgh Dad! I'm sad to hear the Log Jammer's going away. That was the first amusement park ride I ever went on. Still, you gave it a great send off. You even picked a Chicago tune I listened to all the time when I lived in Pittsburgh as a kid! Century III reference! Yeah! I hope Kennywood gets an awesome upgrade.
I am about 6 years late on this, but what a video. It has been about 15 years since I have lived in Pittsburgh and just about as long since I last rode the Log Jammer. I have so many fond memories of KennyWood and the Log Jammer, this was just a great send-off. Like another commenter said, Pittsburgh Dad said goodbye for those of us that didn't get a chance too. Thanks, and keep making the wonderful videos. You really remind me of all the great times I had growing up
honestly man thanks for that. i got hurt at work this summer at work. so on our trip to kennywood for thr first time i wasn't able to ride the Log Jammer. i was really bummed as my wife and went on it with out me. this vid was almost like riding it myself. i heard after our trip that they were shutting it down. meaning that i missed my last trip. i probably have the same look on my face going over the crest and down the shoot. thanks for all the laughs in most of your vids. all but this one this one got me in the heart.
Brought my kids to Kennywood for the first time this past weekend. Sad that they never experienced the Log Jammer. We got a photo of them in one of the old logs by the entrance, and that reminded me of this video and I had to watch it again. Great job Chris and Curt. Masterful editing, and I can just feel all the emotions that Curt was going through during the course of that final ride. All that with the perfect song choice makes this one of my all time favorite Pittsburgh Dad episodes.
Nathan A kennywood keeps culling all the old favorites for newer edgier rides...I dont like it. I dont want to see Kennywood become like every other park. I want it to be that special place with a calliope on the merry go round and the raging rapids and noahs ark and the WHALE and the turtle and potato patch fries and THE LOG JAMMER 😭
I'm glad you got the TP dispenser from the civic arena before Jeff Reed got to it, probably had his arms full after cleaning out all the paper towel dispensers.
Every year,my wife and I and our 3 boys would all plan our actions for when the picture was taken going down the hill.We have half a dozen fridge magnets with the pics on them still on our fridge. They are hilarious.Boys are all grown now. This episode brought back a lot of memories. Thanks Pittsburgh Dad....
The Log Jammer. It not only ended the Vietnam war, it cleaned up the Allegheny river and was responsible for drafting Jack Lambert. It inspired Myron Cope to create the terrible towel, and assisted in four super bowl wins, the '79 world series win, and 4 Stanley cups. It also kept the incline functioning, started the annual regata, and possibly created the famous Primanti sandwich. Rumor has it that it once even beat Chuck Norris's ass with a well placed roundhouse kick.
Oh my gosh I actually felt EVERY ONE OF HIS FEELS! I didn’t know the Log Jammer was gone, and seeing him ride it for the last time took me back to the last time I rode it decades ago. I actually teared up watching this. Thank you, Pittsburgh Dad, for capturing this for those of us who couldn’t be there. *salute*
I remember enjoying the view from the pre-plunge area. How that triggered excess fluid on eyeballs IDK. Wait, 2 hours til kickoff VS Vikings. Gotta get my game face on. What Deb?....... No no I got a bug in my eye..... Jeeze Louise
Great tribute! I rode it once a long time ago and then when i went back to Kennywood I was riding all the roller coasters and didn't ride Log Jammer, now I kind of regret it. Goodbye Log Jammer! You will be missed. You totally forgot that Terry Bradshaw and some Pittsburgh Sports announcer rode this back in the 70's.
I remember when it was first built 1975. My Grandma took me out to Kennywood and it was THE RIDE! Longest line ever to get on it! Haven't been on it for years, miss it now.
Holy crap!! Watching the ride sure did bring back some good memories! Best was when my grandfather worked for Westinghouse and they would rent out the park.
Man, this bummed me out more than I was expecting... First Kennywood ride I ever went on, it was the Cannonsburg Day, I was maybe 10 or 11. Damn, Pittsburgh Dad, knocking memories loose I have not thought about for years.
