Before Bart was apprehended and convicted, Kent (his dad) already decided to fully forgive the killer. But obviously the state had to press charges. The recommendation for clemency was influenced and likely unable to be made without his father. His sentence was commuted to life without parole. But at least from my perspective, that is enough of a punishment as his father who was wounded in the attack knew they wouldn't let him go so kept campaigning for the commution. Plus it's proven that the death penalty costs more to execute than life imprisonment for multiple factors including getting the drugs, finding a willing prison guard, subsequent appeals and the length of capital trials.

This is highly disturbing. I'm crazy about my parents. I found my mom having a seizure last year, lips turning blue, and I honest to God soiled myself. I called 911 in a panic, she was on life support but recovered quick and I was absolutely, completely traumatized by it. People say I saved her life. It's a huge burden. I don't hate this kid. He is an utter sociopath, he appears devoid of any human emotion, but what he did is haunting. I don't comment on too many YT videos, but this is freakishly bizarre.

I can relate to having to forgive something tragic like the father. I know exactly about how good it feels to forgive, and to have all the negative weight lifted away by forgiving my mother's killer. It's a huge blessing to be to let go and forgive. I leave it to God to take care of all my problems.

I don't understand how you could just kill your own family, he must've have been raised that family isn't an important part of life and living. What's the point? What good will it bring knowing you are not going to get away with it in the 21st century? You'll be on the run forever and who wants to live a life like that? It's not fun and you'll get caught and you'll either face the death penalty or spend life in prison
No his family raised him just fine otherwise his brother would probably have turned out like him. What he was doing was taking the money his parents gave him for college but not attending. When time came for him to graduate the ruse was at an end so his solution was to kill them with the added bonus of inheritance. He has no empathy for anyone as he is a psychopath or sociopath. Probably the only emotion he had towards his parents was anger that they set expectations such as college or job and he didn’t want to do either. There are people like that in this world and it isn’t simply because of a bad upbringing.
Also these types all think they can get away with it, that they are smarter than everyone else. Same sort of thing happened a few years ago. College student kills his parents and sister so he could inherit an estate. He was about 19 or so and at the lawyer’s office learned he wouldn’t inherit the full estate until he turned 25. In the meantime he’d live off money set aside for college and living expenses. This caused him to have an angry outburst in the office in front of the lawyer and some other relatives. He demanded to know why his parents would do such a thing. He may have also tried to challenge this. He obviously didn’t think this looked suspicious when he was supposed to be in mourning. And while he wasn’t caught based on this he thought no one would tie him to it.
The police basically made him pick a race. Saying "I don't know" sounds more like a lie. You can look at it as "he picked a black guy" or you can simply see that every race had an equal chance of being picked. We don't know which one is the truth, only those who want to propagate racism will definitely pick one side over the other.
