Acharya Chandranath surely stands as one of the greatest spiritual aspirants in modern times. This is the first time I have ever come across any great yogi for whom nirvikalpa samadhi is a practice. The available yogic literature considers either savikalpa samadhi or nirvikalpa samadhi as the goal. Acharya Chandranath is the only one I have read about who has discarded this standard understanding of samadhi. For him nirvikalpa samadhi is a practice, just like meditation. And practice makes perfect. The other vital point he raises is that a spiritual aspirant should not be satisfied with the attainment of psychic and spiritual powers called siddhi in Sanskrit. Downfall is possible at that stage. In fact, it is highly possible because one becomes enamoured with these extraordinary powers and utilises them frivolously. And then what happens? One goes into the ditch. The last important point he makes is that an advanced spiritual aspirant should not be satisfied with the attainment of savikalpa samadhi. He or she must continue the practice until nirvikalpa samadhi is achieved. Then only is salvation possible.
