The downfall of simpsons was a gradual descent. There are good episodes all along the series, they just become gradually less frequent, or the quality of the writing loses a bit of charm here and there, and later you start seeing actually bad episodes appearing, which also keep becoming worse as the show goes on. But there are good episodes even in season 20-something, easily. And rarely is a simpsons episode actually hard to watch The thing is, basically each episode of the first 8 seasons is consistently very good. And almost every episode in seasons 30+ is shallow and the characters become very 1-dimensional charicatures of themselves. I agree that people are quick to dismiss anything beyond season 8.
@@jonpatchmodular I think the most recent seasons(33-35) actually have some of the least one-dimensional episodes in ages. Most of them are pretty run of the mill bad, but one or two episodes per season take themselves weirdly seriously.
@@Sewblon False. They may not have used the namesake of the Puritans, but the traditions which led them to do it was a vestige of Puritan Christian settlers.
@@Sewblon Mind-altering substances were considered taboo, and a sign of emotional weakness or something, like you were falling prey to the Devil if you feel well or are happy. That's Puritanism in a nutshell, and that is where it comes from. It is also where we get censorship of "curse" words, and dress codes (not counting posh establishments with status-oriented dress codes).
@@TheReaverOfDarkness The Puritan movement happened before water was safe to drink. The Puritans drank beer because this was back when everyone drank beer, because it was better for you than the water that you could get. That is why there were Taverns in Puritan Salem. At least that is what they say on Quora. Wikipedia does mention that they forbid lots of things like theater, gambling, and mixed sex dancing because they felt it lead to fornication, and that they forbid Christmas because it led to drunkenness and considered it Popery. But it also says that they allowed drinking in moderation. So, I think that they did not forbid drinking alcohol or mind altering substances as such. Plus, I can't find anything about them forbidding "Curse" words or imposing dress codes. Where are you getting this stuff?
