Wrangell - St. Elias National Park, Dadina River packrafting trip.
A longer version of the Dadina River Packrafting video on the website. We (Jule and I) ran this river early in the season, and it's a blast. We hiked over to Dadina River from Sanford River. We portaged the first 1/2 mile or so of the canyon, as we didn't have time to scout it properly. We arrived at the canyon late in the evening, camped, got up in the morning and hiked, river-left, a 1/2 mile or so downriver, then dropped down to the river and put on.
By morning, the water levels were a lot lower than they had been the night before on arrival (temps dropped to close to 32˚F that night), and I think, unless there's some unforeseen gnarliness down around the first bend, we'd have been fine paddling the whole thing. Safety first, so we hiked it, then paddled.
We came down to the Copper River, and floated downstream to the airport at Chitina (look for fish wheels on the riverbanks, river right). Maybe 5 hours from the Dadina/Copper River junction to Chitina takeout.
