@@jlynn4736 This was Eagle Cave, Wisconsin. I went there a year ago and didn't realize until I got there that I was at the location of it. It was an event called "Even Further" and it was in 1996. The guy who owns the campground now was there the night it happened, and apparently it was really rainy and busy. The performances were all in a big tent or temporary structure.
basically, t-bang is working a set of sequencers, drum machines, and of course a 303, as well as a turntable. Guy-Man (who is to T-bang's right, or the left of the screen, hidden in shadows) usually handled the samplers, and a turntable also.
saw them at Glastonbury when they refused to get off the stage and a girl in the audience climbed one of the tent poles and refused to come down until they were aloud to come down again,a gig I will never ever forget and will be telling my grandchildren about, big love to Thomas and Guy man for that night and for putting the punk back into the funk
man, if I had seen this back then....oh man....The first live techno I saw was Orbital, a few years later. But I guess it still had an influence on me...my life is live techno to this day!
i cant believe there is a video of this. this was my first outdoor rave party. even furthur, may 24-27,1996 in wisconsin,USA. it changed my life. it rained on day's 25-26 turning the valley into a muddy slide. i spent most my time right outside the tent tripping my brains out all 4 days. drop bass network threw this party. this was back when daft punk was good. i don't remember him messing up this much at the party but back then i didn't have robot ears.
This video is awesome. It gives a chance for people to see howe they are without all the robotic suits and mystical stage presence, and to be assuerd that they are 'human after all'
I remember my big bro took me to a rave in San Bernardino and told me I have to go because daft punk was going to be there... I was like who's that? He said the around the world guys ...you like that song ... so I went ... and it was amazing!!! Saw Aphex twin too with there big old dancing bears awesome night . Note I was a punk then.
Just a note to those clicking on the thumbs down: Use it sparingly, darn it. That button was made for spam and cursing. Just because the guy dislikes this video, there is no need to mark it as as Poor Comment. Or do you guys keep clicking that so that he doesn't rain on your parade? What ever happened to diversity??
there are both 808 and 909 sounds used in this mix. Which drum machine they actually used LIVE...probably the 909 as it's more robust and versatile for house, as well as connectable to other gear. The compressor of which you speak is the Alesis 3630. For more live techno check out my page!
Yep, half way throught the vid I noticed that there were more devices than just a mixer and two decks. Man, Ableton must have made their life so much easier and funner!
DJs and these guys are different. These guys use the machines the songs are made on while Djs use big huge vinyls and cds that song were premade on. If you play songs live like this you can make a 2 minute song go to at least 12 minutes, if your good enough or maybe even manage to finish a song in set, IF YOUR GOOD ENOUGH. Even today Daft Punk still uses live machines and todays newest stuff to make and play songs live making DJs cry.
Even back then, tearing things up, the beast inside mad to be free. That metallic/robotic growl coming to the fore and destroying shitbox venues all over the U.S. - PHENOMENAL.
"We did not choose to become robots. There was an accident in our studio. We were working on our sampler, and at exactly 9:09 a.m. on September 9, 1999, it exploded. When we regained consciousness, we discovered that we had become robots."
I was a bit disapointed when i seen them live that they didnt play some of the old tracks on their own...but instead they mashed it all up with the new songs to make them sound ok...Get me a time machine these are the tracks I want to hear :)
Guy is the main reason that Daft Punk wears masks... He's the shy one... Thomas would gladly DJ with no mask... I know because of "Thomas Bangalter Live @ Cinespace" and "Thomas Bangalter Live 2006"... I think the masks are a nice touch seeing as they make Electronic music...
Awsome clip!!!This music gets me rushing without the aid of drugs! Hard as fuck jackin' acid trax. Daft Punk took the template of house and pfunked it up.
@scenesteraccess not if you use modern day technology like Ableton (which I personally use). back then it was a lot harder to sync tracks. also they were playing live with various devices, as daftendirekt97 said.
I swear that's Richie Hawtin wearing the hoodie? Search Richie Hawtin on google, then click is wikipedia page. Then click on his image and pause at 5:08.... See? ha ha! But my gosh! Why can't music be like this anymore? This is good music!! :) Miss these boys so much! They need to make an actual album! Derezzed was fab, but only song that sounded like Daft Punk heh. Pretty cool how this video is 16 years old! ha ha! Love them so much, fan for almost 10 years!
