Outfitting a whitewater kayak has gone from standard fair to a dark art as factory outfitting has gone from non-existent to excellent. These videos are how to guides for improving, updating, and upgrading your outfitting. From Dagger Contour seat swaps, to new thigh hooks and foot blocks I'll walk you through most typical projects to make your boat more comfortable. These videos are especially useful for updating old school whitewater kayaks which are famously uncomfortable.

For anyone curious the LL Badass conversion will work in the big 7.0 ID. Just did one with the creek seat and rail. It wont slide all the way back but fits well. Puts me right where I need to be and I am 6 foot 195lbs. Used the aluminum bulkhead rail method from Alex's other video to secure the seat and make it adjustable.

Just FYI I just did another ID. Took a creeker apart, cut the aluminum bars off the foot block, attached them to the sides of the seat, then used them to attach to the bolts below the water line. Extremely solid with some foam wedges

@@AlexBarham Epic!! Determined to bring this old boat up to todays standards, Its too solid and familiar to let go of. the perfect blend of play and river runner I just cant bring myself to do anything but, upgrade and send. Love the idea of getting the sturdieness out of some creeker outfitting to take an already solid platform up a notch. Love it

Kept the old seat in my outlaw. I guess I’m lucky that it’s comfortable for me as is

Can you please do a video on the id about making the front of the boat more comfortable with a foot block or something. I have this boat and the front is so uncomfortable after a long day

Going to try this with a dagger outlaw, thanks for the inspiration. Do you know of any other seats that might be compatible?
@AlexBarham

Ummmm. Anything is compatible if you try hard enough?

Hey Alex! I just picked up an old Ego as my first hard boat. I'm wanting to do this conversion but am intimidated as hell. Any tips on where I can source the Wavesport seat?
@AlexBarham
@AlexBarham 4 года назад
This one really isn't bad. Just make sure the boat is sitting pretty when you drill the holes. There is a full list of compatibility for donors and acceptors in the video description. Best thing you can do is ask around and see if anyone used to paddle one but broke it or it oil-canned to death

I just got a 2003 id 7.0. If I release the seat from the bolt and bring the black plastic right up to the bolt, then I can sit comfortably, at 6'1" tall 165 lbs. My question is, this puts the seat more than an inch behind the normal furthest point back, and my feet go pretty near the tip, so do any of you with experience with this expect that I'll be sitting too far into the stern for this boat to make sense if I'm so far back? I also find that I want the knee braces a little farther forward even with the seat all the way back like that. Do you expect if I make the knee braces able to slide a little farther forward that it won't get pinched in the front? Feel free to add ideas. Would the Wave Sport or the badass outfitting offer a seat that is comfortable enough that it won't have to go back so far?

You can use this method to put a full on creek seat in there for additional strength and durability: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZRaiZ8U6a48.html

Congrats! 7.0s are awesome! The thigh hooks are adjustable. Just loosen the screws a few turns and they 3-4 inches of travel. It is definitely possible to be too far back in there. I would try it with smaller hip pads to see if you can widen your position and sit further forward. I know other tall guys who paddle this boat without being all the way back.

Hi Alex, I've been following your boatbuilder (and other vids) with interest, excellent content. I want to remove the metal hull stiffener and pillar supports from my Neck Orbitfish, but I don't know what I can replace them with..? If you know the Orbitfish, you'll know what I mean and why I want to swap it out. I recently took a chunk out of my heel when a seal launch got a bit bumpy and the front corner of the metal track bit my right heel, plus being metal it makes the boat that much heavier than plastic would. Any ideas what I can use instead or of any boats out there with a suitable system I could swap out?
@AlexBarham
@AlexBarham 4 года назад
A. Seal launching an Orbit Fish or Vibe that hard is a sin. Those things are rare and coveted. B. Those boats were heavy because they used tons of plastic and the fish tails are probably filled in till they are almost solid. That's the real reason they are so stiff and amazing for big waves. C. That is aluminium. It is in fact quite light. Lighter than the same amount of plastic to get that stiffness. You're best off just putting down a few layers of tape or some thin foam. Makes you realize what a monster Benny Marr is when you look at the original Stakeout video where he is whipping those boats around. If you watch that then look at him paddling just the next year you can literally see the difference in the exertion he is putting into muscling that boat around. Thanks for watching man!
