I've always loved Dead Money's theme because, at least in my opinion, the lesson isn't for the player to learn. Hence why 99.9% of players keep the gold bars. Because we're the courier. The lesson of letting go is for Elijah, hence why he gets locked forever into a vault like some kind of Greek tragedy. The job of the player is to Teach the lesson. To be the vehicle of the moral of the story. That's why I love Dead Money, you don't learn to let go. You teach others to
"The people who do [keep them], like me, spit on the DLC's message." I applaud Dagoth Ur. It's not that it's a bad message or poorly written. It's just that, as a player, it is a moral imperative to break a game's perceived boundaries whenever possible.
Idk The Witcher 3 does it great too. Imo they’re both master class. It’s kinda hard to choose between the wonderfully crafted stories of Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, and the New Vegas DLC that is filled to the brim with well made content.
Not that they are more compelling than the main story, but they use the main story as a device that drives the motivations and fears of each DLC character. FNV’s DLC complement the main story so well, they might as well be necessary to understand the main story
@@kassandraofodyssey6475 Yeah, was gonna come mention Witcher 3 DLC, Hearts of Stone was great with its quests and story, but Blood and Wine is like an entire game in itself, it's actually insane.
@@utes5532 Dense DLC is a treasure, reminds me when expansion packs were more the buzzword and were generally a beastly chunk of content when a game got one.
This is why I love this game. I’ve been playing since day one. And I’ve never thought of that. I would just take buff out and max out my carrying capacity.
Joshua Graham - "I don't enjoy killing, but when done righteously, it becomes a chore just like any other. And Lord knows, there's much to be done." One of the best NPC's ever.
Dead Money will forever be my favorite, simply because I went though my first playthrough totally unspoiled. I thought I was genuinely going to a casino, but had the best adventure ever. I got obsessed with the lore, and I love it so much.
Give how much our lord loves Honest Heart I'm shocked he didn't mention The Survivalist's story. God that was amazing better than the DLC itself even. As well as his easy to obtain no faction Desert Ranged armor.
I played New Vegas and only played two of the four available DLCs. I beat Honest Hearts and almost got through Dead Money. I love the claustrophobic alleys and dungeons of Dead Money, cool characters and dialogue. But Honest Hearts captured me with the considerably large map filled with beautiful buildings of the past, the story of a Hunter surviving after the nukes hit, and Joshua Graham’s cutthroat faith in justice. Honest Hearts was pretty cool all things considered. Can’t wait to try out the other DLCs when I get a chance.
Okay that's it. My new head canon for Dagoth AI Memes are that every meme is a new reincarnation entering Dagoth Ur and Nerevar is too polite to interrupt the ramblings of a madman who has way too much free time waiting for another reincarnation to show up.
@@ventexovakon2178 I wonder why. I know AI images are controversial because it essentially steals peoples art on the internet. So maybe the same reason but with the voice actors?
Fuck me he said dead heart and not dead money. I'm sorry, don't crucify me elijah. I'm fully prepared to be flamed up after the comments on the fallout 3 video.
Hearth *stone* instead of Hearth *fire* (Unless he said *Heart* stone) Also I will die when he gets to Skyrim DLC if he does the AE content, especially Ghosts of the Tribunal
Dead Money was really good. The main issue i think was that most people played it at a very high level. Start over and get into the DLC around lvl 10 and see if it does not feel different when you can't fix every weapon with spit and use powerful perks to break the difficulty curve. Also the Burnt Man is a badass, but the Father in the Cave makes me shed manly tears every time. What a complete legend.
Are you kidding? I went to Dead Money at like level 30 and still got my ass whooped constantly, the only reason I didn't die was just spamming stimpaks
I would have added it but i didn't wanna make it too long in case people found it boring. It does change alot when you snipe with explosive rounds though.
I knew there was some way to get all gold bars in dead money but I wouldn't really learned anything if I took it all but instead made caps from selling weapons and grinding in the thorn
Old World Blues used to be my favorite, but as time moves on, the atmosphere and feel of Honest Hearts is so damn good. It somehow gets better with the years.
Joshua Graham single handedly saved Honest Hearts from sucking. He’s the only part of that DLC I enjoy when I replay it. The rest of it just kind of feels like a slog on repeat play throughs.
Interesting choice Honest Hearts being his favorite considering its usually the least favorite for most people. Though being "least favorite" isnt really bad considering how great FNV DLC is in general.
Thematically and storywise, it was an amazing DLC. the enviornment was beautiful, it was also cool seeing rain in new begas for the first time and the starry night sky too. gameplay wise it was just a boring fetch quest the run down a river and kill some guys then DLC ends
@@smartfella7914 oh absolutely, i was surprised that its just collecting bunch of stuff, the yao guai cave, trap dismantling, and then suddenly its the final battle?! And the battle is basically running from one edge of the map to the other, and salt-upon-wound is the easiest DLC boss. Doesnt even feel threatening at all, both in vibe and difficulty.
@Kenneth Karl I think the main complaints were about it's difficulty and that you couldn't keep the gold that seemed to be your reward for getting through a challenging dlc.
@@rangerofthewasteschaoticne6888 the irony of this is just as golden as those bars. Albeit also sad, if your theory is right and most players feel cheated out of the gold as a reward. It Does Proove that they never payed attention to the story. Just blindly followed the arrow to the next objective. Reminds me of bioshock.
@@rangerofthewasteschaoticne6888 People's brains just couldn't handle the immense responsibility of being aware of their surroundings for the collar alarms. Also I took the gold with me
Pov: your in a taco bell bathroom Dagoth ur: Dagoth ur welcomes you nerevar my old friend but to this place where destiny is made why have you come unprepared?
It is a fucking crime not to mention one of the BEST self-contained stories in the history of Fallout. How can you speak of Honest Hearts, and not speak of Randall Clark? Aka THE FATHER!!! >:v
By the end of dead money you are driven mad by all the bullshit Elijah puts you through so you WILL at least once find yourself shuffling out the gates with all the gold while the old man suffers alone in the bunker.
i love lonesome road so much, i use a mod that replaces Ron Perlmans ending quote whit ulysses'. for me, "it says, "war. war never changes." men do. through the roads they walk. and this road has reached it's end" goes way harder than it should.
I actually never really needed or wanted the gold from Dead Money since you can get a large package of chips delivered to the bunker every few days if you win at the casino games enough. Then, if you have all the vending codes, you can use them to get literally any Chem as well as all the repair kits you'll ever need. Not to mention that the holorifle fully modded is one of the best energy weapons in the game.
Should have rated Honest Hearts higher like hot damn I really really enjoyed that one. Joshua is one hell of an NPC and so are the rest of the supporting casts.
My only argument is Old World blues was a 7 out of 10. Whenever I'm in the very fallout experience of dumping mag after mag into a single common enemy, really kills the experience. Murdering all the scientists at the end was great though.
You really cannot understate how great Dead Money is when it comes to… Hold on I need to pull out a melee weapon on my gun build to deal with these Ghosts Anyways the characters in the DLC are… Hold on I need to run through the cloud here Like I was saying the story… And my bomb collar is starting to beep BUT OVERALL there is nothing annoying about this DLC that makes it tedious in any way nor distracts from my enjoyment of the story elements And there’s a hologram coming to kill me
i dont wanna brag(i actually really do) but i was able to get all the gold bars from elijah. without killing him. ohh, it felt so good, especially since this was before i considered hitting the internet for a guide. i wasnt running a stealth build at the point, probably having like 38 sneak. i wasnt using a stealth boy. and i was on 360, so no mods. i wont deny there was some level of cheese. i used that mesh-like pillar you could see through to keep track of him. to him, its just a solid pillar. i was worried i wouldn't make it cleanly, but i did. it felt close. i didnt know how much time the collar had left, but i was sure it wasnt much.
Dead money was a terrible experience for me personally because I used an energy weapon focused build and it was extremely difficult for me to actually kill the enemies with the ammunition that was provided in the DLC. I like the story and everything but its really only balanced around the assumption that you are a standard shooty man. Didn't have a problem like that anywhere else in the game including the other DLCs.
Same. I was completely invested in energy weapons and had not focused on stealth at all at that point. I went from being a badass to a bitch in a matter minutes. Suddenly every enemy was a bullet sponge and my attempts at sealthing around the projector guys were laughable. The only thing I could feel at the end was thank god I can finally have some fun again
I remember the holorifle being one of the best energy weapons in the game and with the perk that improves recycling drained power cells you can make optimized ammo that is strong for it's cost. I could have sworn the holorifle blew limbs off ghosts easy.
@@rangerofthewasteschaoticne6888 I'm sure that it did. I don't think I had that perk. It is one you get from level up? As I recall, I had a lot of trouble finding ammo for it
@Glorious King yeah it's a science perk, vigilant recycler, twice as likely to recover drained cells and recycling is 3-1 instead of 4 drained for every cell
"And so as it had come to pass, with Dagoth Ur's judgement came a profound sense of loss. Not because of a lack of praise, but because it had ended too soon. But this was a small price to pay, for the peace it brought Joshua Graham." Now I'm going to go play Honest Hearts again. God bless Randall Clark (wish Dagoth had talked about him!) and Joshua Graham, and fuck Daniel with a jalapeno covered big iron.
I love New Vegas and Dead Money is my favorite. I love classic cinema and the DLC is a direct hommage to the 1948 movie "The Treasure of the Sierra Madre" with Humphrey Bogart wich puts the icing on an already great cake. The police pistol is a direct copy of the Colt New Service Bogart uses in the film. Details man!
@@thebigjuicethesip Nice are you custom to old black and white movies? That is not even the only thing New Vegas connects to classic hollywood: When Carole Lombard died in a plane crash over Nevada (the flight was destined to McCarren airport Las Vegas) her best friend Clark Gable was on his way to Vegas. The place where he got the phone call that she died and mournd a whole day after that wasn't another but the real Goodsprings Saloon, no kidding. There is a wall of pictures in the real world saloon honoring the two actors! (The other side of the wall has a Legion and NCR flag lol)
@@thebigjuicethesip The Good, the Bad and the Ugly as well as Once uppon a time in the West as well as Django (the D is silent xD) are prime examples of this genre, kudos to your grandpa ;)
My only peeve with Honest Hearts it's that it isn't connected to the other DLCs. Only a vague mention of Ulysses from Joshua. Chronologically, Old World Blues is first, as Ulysses learned the nuke activation codes from the Think Thank, Elijah learned from Ulysses of the Sierra Madre and Cristine got her scars there and learned of Elijah's location from Ulysses. Dead Money is second, as in the ending slides, they talk about the Battle of the Divide between the Courier and Ulysses. And Lonesome Road is last, ending the story of Ulysses and the Courier. And the last remaining story is the Second Battle of Hoover Dam from the main quest line. You can play Honest Hearts in-between any of these DLCs. You could argue that the Dead Money companions' ending slides where they talk about hearing of the Battle of the Divide means it happened already and only now they hear about it, but I disagree. Also, I love Ulysses, even if certain gun loving, feet obsessed ex-military and his ex-marine, beret lover buddy youtubers sh@t on him and ED-E.
@@thebigjuicethesip mikeburnfire. Mike and Zach. Their New Vegas videos are hella fun, don't get me wrong, but they made ED-E beep constantly in Lonesome Road. They did my boy dirty.
I just went back to playing Fallout new Vegas and am replaying dead money. I think they handle the ghost people and done rather well. They don't make the limbs too hard to take off and it's very rare that a take one down without them losing a limb. Only time they are ever a scary threat rather than a normal one is when you finish the gala event are every Ghost person within a 12 mile radius come to feed you your teeth.
A guide to keep the gold bars? All you need is one turbo to escape with the gold. All you do is lure Elijah down and sneak through the door before it closes.
honest hearts has joshua graham, old world blues has the best rewards, dead money has the most innovative gameplay features, and lonesome road explains your character's background through Ulysses who is superbly written. They're all excellent. The worst DLC is really couriers stash, I hate having items just added to my inventory by a DLC at the beginning of the game, but obviously we aren't counting that one.
Ricky actually isn’t a vault dweller, he just looted the jumpsuit and pip-boy of a corpse. (You can point out that it’s a vault 22 suit if you’ve been there and call him on his bs)
While dead money can be a pain at times I think it's atmosphere is the most well done of all the dlcs. The music, the location, the strange mostly unexplained enemies and cloud of death all build up a interesting mystery and setting. All the characters are great and the holorifle is a great weapon. Honest hearts is odd, Joshua really carries the dlc on his shoulders. It's by no means bad, it just feels the least unique, I wish it did more with its location, more unique mutants, weapons, armors, set pieces, quests, anything really. Lonesome road and old world blues are good as is. They're the super serious and wacky weird dlc respectively
Bro the lobos with the magnums and rifles were WACK. I was on m Xbox and sorely missed all my modded stances and stuff. Good thing I had the medicine stick with me.
For me, Honest Hearts < Dead Money (great stuff but the map design is uuuugh) < Old World Blues < Lonesome Road Honest Hearts has Joshua, but the DLC itself has very little unique stuff. No bomb collars and gas clouds, no lobotomite implants, no nuclear warhead gauntlet. Just a bunch of natives with tommy guns and spears. I suppose its neat if you like the great outdoors, but Im a CRPG player so it goes without saying that I don't.
