Thank you very much for all your informative videos. This is my first year growing dahlias in pots and have heard that the lubers need to be buried 4-6 inches(10-15cm) deep under in order to grow strong shoots. But, I noticed that you leave a part of the tubers sticking out of the soil. Do you find that there is no big of a difference in planting so?

Hi Ella, thanks for your comment. So these are the first stage in pots and I usually leave some tuber showing so I can monitor the shoots. Its also difficult to get every tuber in as deep as you would like without using a much larger pot. Once on growth it is planted out and at that stage we do go a little deeper. If you are planting the tuber straight into the ground it is usual to cover the tubers completely, as you say. I hope all goes well for you this season, enjoy~

Perfect video for me today! I am going to follow your lead and started getting some of my tubers potted up. I love your sticker system. Question for you....Last growing season being my first with growing dahlias I planted them in full all day sun. There is a spot in my field that is full sun all day but the setting sun shades the spot out before the rest of the field. Do Dahlias benefit from some very late afternoon shade? Or should I go ahead and plant them out full sun all day again? Thank you in advance I appreciate your advice :)

Hi Margaret, thanks for your kind comment and support. Dahlias require a good dose of sunshine - at least 6 hours a day and the more the better, although the leaves can be damaged by heat and direct sun when combined. So it is during the hottest period - on and after midday when shade is appreciated. Late afternoon shade will not affect their performance one way or another so far as I know so I think yours will be just fine. Good luck with your growing and I hope you enjoy your dahlias.
