I knew we’d see a reaction from you sooner or later. I’m happy you were respectful to the victims, it’s not a joking matter at all. I was 27 back in 1991 when the story of this monster hit the news and it had me sleeping with the lights on. And when he was killed in prison I remember feeling glad he got what he deserved. Some of the events in this series were embellished for dramatic effect, but all of the murders did happen. Episode 6 is heartbreaking so prepare yourself. The 14 year old was Konerack Sinsamthaphone and he was Loation .

Thank you for the disclaimer at the beginning. I feel like most Americans and those who went to school in America knew about him a lot. Like you, I honestly never knew about him. To me this raises an awareness of broader societal issues black and gay Americans suffer through. It's important to see the various levels of neglect they face but at the same time, it's such a sensitive crime to show because of what he did to innocent people. I hate that this happened and I hate that he got away with it for so long. Truly vile and disgusting.

Glad you decided to watch it. Aside from the horrific things that Dahmer did, one of the scariest things about all of this is that from 1978 to 1991 the police kept letting him go. The police was just as guilty as him. They never believed the callers because they were black plus white men get away with so much in this country while everyone else get outrageous amount of time for non violent crimes. If it wasn't for that young man that barely escaped then he would've been doing it until he got caught. He was a monster with so much freedom.

This show was hard to watch but the actors did an amazing job. I love that you were so respectful of the victims. With big cases like this, the victims are often overlooked and the majority of the focus is place on the perpetrator. I believe more focus should be placed on the fact that these were individuals who had families, dreams and lives that were full of potential. I've told myself that as long as I'm not seeing the show through my actual Netflix account, then I shouldn't feel too bad for being curious about what people's reactions were to it (Chuuzuz is the first for me to watch it through someone else) - because as a film major, I am curious to see what the show LOOKS like and how it was received but I also don't want to support companies creating speculative, fictional stories based off real events and victims. (I think it's too much, the Gabby Petito movie, the Amber vs. Depp case movie, the Blonde movie, etc.) It's always been weird to me since they made the Ted Bundy movie with Zac Efron a few years ago. I watched it but it left me feeling weird so I tend to avoid fictional movies about real-life people, especially if they were awful people to begin with.

This show is a roller coaster ride… and honestly fascinating. I don’t think anyone wants to make jokes about the terrible things he did to people but the way the show has established the characters is legit brilliant. Your reactions were on point as always. Please consider continuing this. There is so much richness in this show beyond the gore and brutality. And the issues of race and sexuality are also appropriately displayed… people ignored so many signs and Dahmer preyed on vulnerable young men.

I'm glad about this disclaimer. I'm not going to watch it because the victims' families were not contacted and are being traumatized again. Netflix and ryan murphy really should have asked these families about it and give the money to charity

Chuuzus, just wanted to let you know; according to the psychologist who worked this case, Jeffery went after gay black men so he would avoid detection and so that the police wouldn't believe any accusations/suspect him.
@va9967

Also. He apparently killed his victims so they could never leave him, and cannibalized some of them so they could 'become a part of him forever'...

i really dislike this show for not reaching out to the family members of the victims before proceeding with the making of it. it's really disrespectful and has retraumatized them all over again. it just seems to be profiting off their pain and people say it's for educational purposes but there are already so many pieces of media about jeffrey dahmer, this definitely felt like a cash grab and a disrespectful one at that.
@77Creation
@77Creation 2 года назад
Agreed that they should have informed the families. This was no cash-grab. It’s well crafted and probably the most thorough examination of his crimes and their impact.

In my opinion while watching this series and also past interviews and what not, he went after black gay men not because he was racist but because during that time there was a lot of homophobia and racism. So the chances of him getting caught were far less because of course when the man is gay AND black the cops don’t care even more. And the landlord said she called multiple times reporting him and they never did anything. The whole situation pisses me off because he could’ve been caught if they would’ve took the 2 seconds to look into him. I mean look at everything that was in his apartment.
@Threeleebird
@Threeleebird 2 года назад
Considering that Dahmer was not very careful about certain details of his killings (such as allowing the smell to spread) I don't think he chose black or Asian people because they would be easy prey and the police would not be on him, but because he really did found them attractive and so he chose them for that reason. He really could have been caught by the police and only got away because of their incompetence not because he was very careful, intelligent or skilled. In a fairer country they would have caught him a long time ago
@sseraphim2818
@sseraphim2818 2 года назад
How could that not be racist? Choosing certain victims because you know that their life holds no value in the eyes of society? Are you joking?
@a.j.1819
@a.j.1819 Год назад
@@sseraphim2818You sound dumb as hell. He was aware that OTHER people think that way and used it to his benefit. He didn’t agree that black, poor people are „less“, so no, he’s not racist himself. He was a murderer, he saw all humans as objects (in his own words). Acknowledging that prejudice exists does not make you racist. If red heads had been the easiest demographic to kill and he found them attractive, he would have gone after them.

From what I’ve gathered the victims’ families did not consent to this show being made and are not receiving any of the profits it makes. I feel like there have been so many documentaries etc. made about him already, we didn’t need another one. If the entire season was made the way they did episode six (focusing entirely on the victim and who they were as a person) it would have been different but this just feels exploitative to a certain extent. True crime content is a difficult thing to get right, but there is a way. I can highly recommend Kendall Rae on RU-vid. She actually talks to the families and helps get their stories out. BTW, this isn’t a critique of him reviewing the series at all. I recognize that this story isn’t as widely known outside of the US and I think if anything it’s great to have people watch it through someone else instead of streaming it directly on Netflix, so they don’t make more money off of this than they already do.

@@va9967 ah got it! And I agree, it must be horrible for them to have this story dragged on and for decades. Also some worrying social media trends coming out of this, like always. Especially(young) women acting like Dahmer is somehow just „misunderstood“ etc. I think Evan Peters playing the role probably adds to this trend- from what I’ve seen he seems to have a big female audience/ fan girl community.

Also I have seen all films and now Limited series of #Dahmer and this was the best one I think in showing that entity being a Monster . But I know there are worst words. And yeah, parents need too set age limits and mental health limits on what they teach their children. Corner store or liquor shops really should have check his id to not provide him alcohol. Should have not been left alone with no job and no responsibilities to keep that entity Dahmer busy. And also just pure evil.

Hey, Chu! I am glad we are getting another point of view since you didnt know about him. I watched this and I couldn't sleep and I wanted to throw up! It was disturbing and upsetting because dahmer actually killed 17 gay men most were black, latino, and poc. This could have been prevented, but the police once again failed. The known serial killers have gotten away with this for a long time, because the police werent doing their job. In this case, the police were dismissing people because they were a person of color. It gets me so mad!!! What makes me mad is that the victims families weren't even notified that this was coming out. They have been through enough! Also, on twitter, people are making jokes and calling jeffrey dahmer hot asf and how they would of gotten killed if they saw him and it is disgusting. Ok he was conventionally attractive to some people idk why but the fact people are saying that after knowing the things he has done is wild. People are so desensitized and need to stop romantizing these serial killers! This was a great reaction to this heinous series and rip to the victims and giving my prayers to the victims families! i hope you have a great week! P.S. you are going to be pissed off throughout this series!!!
