How long are your 3 sessions? I’ve been doing 2 twenty-minute sessions daily and not sure how to squeeze in a 3rd center.

It depends on how much time your district gives for teaching ELA. I worked in one district that expected us to teach ELA for 2 and a half hours per day and another district only an hour. If you're in a district that has more limited time to teach ELA, you could rotate your stations each day of the week so that students are only doing certain stations on certain days but still getting everything in throughout the week.

Great ideas. I am a fifth-grade teacher and will definitely use the Daily 3 with my scholars this year.

Is there any rhyme or reason to color coding the letters? Also about how many bottle caps & alphabet sets work for a class? Thank you!

Hi Anne! Thanks for watching. You can use any color for the letters. The pack of circle stickers I have is multi-color so I just used what I had available in the pack. Depending on the grade you teach, you could color code vowels and consonants. The number you need for a class depends on the number of students that will be working at one time but, remember, to make more of the more commonly used letters (vowels, s, t, n, etc.).

I’m moving up to fourth grade from teaching 1st grade for the past 7 years. I love daily 5 but I was wondering how to implement it in the upper grades. Loved the pace of your video and ideas

Hi Mary! Thanks for watching and commenting. When I first started using Daily 5 in upper elementary, I struggled to make it work. After attending a conference led by the creators of Daily 5, I realized it is not a one-size fits all model and that it should be adapted to meet the needs of each classroom. I have found using a Daily 3 model worked really well with my fourth and fifth graders. I hope you have a great school year!

I’m a first year teacher and this was so helpful! I’m not sure if I can do Daily 5 with COVID, but this video was helpful in a number of ways. I love the book box idea and the class journal idea! Totally taking those into my classroom! ☺️

Hi Janette! Thanks for watching and commenting. I am so happy to read that this information was helpful. I don't think you would be able to do a regular version of Daily 5 remotely, but you could definitely modify it for a virtual classroom. For example, you could still do still do Read the Self, Word Work, and Work on Writing each day. For Read to Self, students would read for a set amount of time. Then, you could have virtual activities for students to complete for Word Work and Work on Writing. Students could choose an activity from a choice board or you could have a specific activity for each day of the week. Just a few ideas for how you could make this work under these unique circumstances. :) Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks for this helpful video! I was curious, where can I find prompts for the class journal? I love this idea so much! Thank you!

Hi Rosemary! Thanks for watching and commenting. I have a writing prompt resource I use with writing pre-made writing prompts that I use for the entire school year. You can find the resource in my store, using this link: www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/4th-Grade-Writing-Prompts-Digital-PDF-Included-4595176 The resource says it is for fourth grade but it will work well with any upper elementary grade.

Is it difficult for 5th graders to begin using the Daily 5 or (3)

Hi Lisa! Thanks for watching. I have used Daily 3 with 5th graders and they enjoyed it. As long you take the time to train your students at the beginning of the year, they will get the hang of it quickly and do what is expected.

how do you access students's work and track their progress

Thanks for watching! At the beginning of the year, I review student's work daily to ensure they are staying on task. By the end of the year, I move to checking about once a week.
