10:30 As an ex carman. #1 rule was never put your hand between the shoe and the wheel. Hold shoe from top or bottom. Does not matter if air is cut out, all it takes is one idiot to hit the dump valve or set the chain.
On Union Pacific this means your job. managers have been known to take the inspection card and other mandatory paper work off engines. If the train leaves you are busted. BUT watch the managers scream when you take time to do this on an 8 unit consist. Managers on Union paific have one job, it's not tk help the crew and it's not to help the customer. it's to find failures at any cost not matter how trivial. Sometimes they swap it from unit to unit
Don't forget, it's regulated and you have to file the CFR. Did I tell you about the CFR. Don't forget to check the CFR. If you're net sure check the CFR.
This can't possibly a daily inspection. Some of the things they are asking would involve getting under the engine and checking the wheels would involve rotating them 360° while observing then. I say b/s on this. This is more like a PM inspection done after a specified amount of hours.

Who thinks that all of this is performed for every locomotive every day? I suspect that it is not so. Economics would dictate a much more cursory daily check with this thorough test once a week. Written reports are easily fudged.
this inspection must occur every 92 days, if not inspected after the 92nd day, unit is out of service until the inspection is done, and repairs are completed.
Inspected once every trip. Brakes must be certified everytime. We mostly just look for safety issues, loading issues, and things that the crew can refuse the train for. But major inspections every three months or so depending what it's due for.
@@LeJewable In the trucking industry (I am a trucker's son, not a driver) besides the minimum requirements that are mandated by the same fed agency that regulates RR locos, and regs that can vary from company to company, there are state DOT regs that equipment has to comply with. State DOT strictness varies from state to state. Also, some parts of CA have regional environmental regulations, so while a tractor may be clear for operation in CA in general, it may not be ok to operate in a specific area. Do Railroaders have to deal with similar issues?
@@jed-henrywitkowski6470 well you obviously aren't familiar with federal regulations that dictate that every state do so. It's not a state to state thing it is strictly Federal. Where does it say it? FRA requirements. Which is a branch of federal transportation. Read a book instead of thinking you know everything and stay in the fucking right lane.
