Your body will naturally produce oils to lubricate your hair. If you shampoo every day your scalp will constantly pump out oils to keep your hair hydrated and healthy, and so you’ll have to wash it again before tomorrow to keep it from being greasy. There’s a balance to be struck, you want to shampoo because the soap will clear debris like dandruff and loose hair, but not so much that your scalp kicks into overdrive trying to bring back the oils that were lost.

All these things can be happening for a plethora of reasons… # 1. it takes one to two months for your sebum levels to adjust to not using shampoo, because now your hair is over producing sebum trying to counteract the shampoo by over moisturizing the scalp. #2. When your first trying this it’s recommended that you take colder showers because the lack of shampooing along with the heat from the water can trigger your hair to not only over-produce more sebum but to actually create dandruff. #3. It’s expected that a few hair follicles will fall out that’s completely natural, as your body is adjusting to the changes of your scalp excess sebum can block the growth process for hair, but once you get over that 1-2 month marker it should start decreasing the amount produced. Shampoo came out little over 100 years ago! As far back as human history dates to that we can recollect is roughly 5,000 years ago… you think people were using shampoo then? The truth is eating healthy portions along with healthy foods, getting a good sleep cycle, and some genetics plays a factor in hair health. But I don’t think no shampooing should influence the health of your hair

I like the experiment, one note though, as someone with type 4c (commonly known as Afro hair) our hair doesn’t need washing every 2-3 days, and the reason why is because of the curl pattern, it makes it more difficult for our natural oils to travel down the hair strand already, so we don’t need much washing. On the contrary, to have our hair lubricated efficiently to promote health and proper hair growth we usually use conditioners with oil or lotion (depending on the porosity) to better moisturise the hair. Now when it comes to events where you get dirty, like the gym for example we wash afterwards (at least I do!) this page may be centered towards 3a hair and up perhaps?

It completely depends on hair type. If you have naturally dry puffy hair then shampoo can make it overly dry and prone to breaking na falling out. I stopped using shampoo and only use hot water now and my hair problems are now over. If someone with flat moisture retentive hair did this however it would probably spell a nightmare.

I went months washing my hair with only hot water years ago - it worked ok. I have fine hair and if I strip all of the oil off of it it's absolutely unmanageable without product for at least 3 days. So, I ended up splitting the difference - I use a cup, fill it half way with water and put in about 2-to-6 drops of shampoo depending upon where I am in my 4 times a year haircut rotation. Mix it up with a couple of fingers, top off the cup and pour it over my head while working it in for probably 5 seconds and rinsing immediately. Works like a charm, once a week, no issues ever.

It's also stronger, and I've noticed i have fewer hair strands falling out all the time. It's also GOING to be bad for a little bit, but soon you'll notice becuae you havent been stripping your hair oils with shampoo, your hair will stop over producing oil because it learns that the oils arent being stripped from it anymore. So your hair will stop being greasy, at least as long as you dont use products

One way to speed up the process is to wash your hands with soap/shampoo, rinse off, then rigorously run your hands through your hair, a lot of excess oil will come off on your oil-less hands and the you wash and rinse your hands again Gets the excess oil out of your hair while you adjust to no shampoo while leaving enough in your hair that your body won’t want to overproduce like when you striped the oils out

It works but you gotta use a dot or two of shampoo every 5 days bc it builds up grease, make sure to go hot water to open up pores then do cold water to close them and it tightens the skin and it’s good for your hair follicles. If you only shower with hot water it’s going to get greasy fast. Also make sure to clean well and maintain. No shampoo is great but make sure to keep good body hygiene and use natural soap, I use coconut butter/peppermint body soap and I use conditioners sometimes as well but maybe once or twice a month. Also exfoliating your skin and the sides of your head regularly if you have shorter hair is a good thing to do. I work construction and I have seborrhaic dermatitis and those two things combined used to really mess up my scalp and my hair and my nose too and I’d use a ton of salysilic acid based shampoos and head and shoulders and I had really thin and dry hair and my scalp would sting and bleed a lot around my hairline. I started doing this a few months ago and my hairs never been better. Just make sure to be hygienic and moderate about it, because maybe you won’t smell it, but if you don’t clean and take good care of hygiene others 100% will notice.

I wash my hair once every 2-4 weeks and when I do wash it I get dry hair and dandruff. When I don’t wash my hair it’s super healthy and sets right with 0 issues like dandruff or itches

When I used head and shoulders I had tons of flaking at the end of the day and couldn't go a day without my hair also being greasy. Switched to a better shampoo and ended up shampooing every other day. A lot better and now I have almost no dandruff and my hair isn't excessively oily. Same with scrubbing your face. Do it too much and your body tries to compensate with more oil production.

I wash my hair once every 2-4 weeks, and every single day after I do wash it looks better and better. In fact, I have to plan hair washing for days no one will see me for the next ~48 hours because my hair looks all dry and messy. All scalps have different needs, and on top of that yours has to get used to it and slow down the production of grease, which it is now used to being stripped away frequently.

I have frizzy/curly hair and used to shampoo everyday. If I missed a day, it would go greasy/gross after a day or so and I always had noticeable dandruff. I stopped using shampoo in early 2022 cold turkey and the first few weeks were rough, but after a month my hair was healthier than ever. I do use a wet conditioner once a fay and use a leave in conditioner overnight, but my haiir has never been healthier. 26yo male btw 😂

I had greasy, itchy hair with shampoo, i recently stopped using it and now i have slightly greasy non itchy hair and way less dandruff. I guess it just works differently depending on skin and hair type.

I have curly hair, and I probably “wash” my hair twice a month. And when I do, I use apple cider vinegar. I haven’t used shampoo in years. Now, I cant keep a full bottle of conditioner and curl cream for longer than a week. lol. I have three kids who have the same exact hair as mine, lots of curls, so we go through A LOT of conditioners and creams . 🤦🏽‍♀️

I haven’t washed my hair in the last 8-9 months. I use conditioner every day but other than that, nothing. I used to have a flakey, irritated scalp, but ever since I stopped using shampoo my hair and head have never felt healthier. Certainly doesn’t work for everyone, but I’d suggest giving it a whirl. Even if you’re not taking shampoo completely out of your routine, your scalp would probably appreciate a break from the chemicals for a bit.

It's the industrial shampoo the problem. Use Alep soap or natural soap beside of chemical shampoo.

It depends on a ton of factors, some people need to wash their hair every 2 days because of various reasons, like humidity, temperature, and how greasy their hair is naturally. Other people however can only wash their hair every week, and it's perfectly healthy thick and strong, it depends on so many factors, there is no universal best amount to wash your hair, it changes person to person

Use sea salt spray after you get out of the shower. Just get a spray bottle of it and spray it all over your hair and go pretty heavy. I don’t use shampoo, I have a hairstyle very similar to yours, and every time I let it fully dry it’s not greasy, thick healthy hair that has lots of natural texture

Wash it with diluted apple cider vinegar. I usually add some lavender or rosemary. Let it sit in acv for a couple days. Get some of the acv and add some vater and wash your hair with it. You are welcome

As a fish guy, they have "slime coat". The issue is that people start using shampoo too early and too often. And your scalp actually changes how it cares for itself. When you disrupt this cycle, the body reacts accordingly. Like withdrawal. People have more connection with the earth than others want to admit.

Mix the baking soda in a large bowl of warm water until it's mixed in the water. Take a cup and dump the water and soda mixture over your head several times while scrubbing gently to get flakes and dirt out of hair. Rinse hair thoroughly with fresh water, do not leave baking soda water in your hair. It leaves your hair smelling fresh, and feeling soft.

Ok I have some pretty straight and mid length hair as a guy And I’ve been doing this for a while Only shampooing like around once every 1-2 weeks And no it’s not a man thing like oh it’s easier and I don’t need it I’ve found that my hair feels a lot healthier and has more of those natural oils that don’t make it ever feel greasy as all and it still feels good. Plus idk if it’s just my hair type but when I shampoo and condition my hair just gets real frizzy and dry. Even before when I used it regularly Idk these are just my findings
