Starlink is not available for mobile usage yet, your "home dish" will only be active around the billing adress. Mobile Starlink is coming though! They also require a substancial amount of power to run
@SailProMarina

Yea we tested it at and around the marina and those little motors in there just couldn’t keep up in any movement at all. And it burned HUGE battery power trying
@ajbent1
@ajbent1 3 года назад
Another thing to note is that your Starlink dish is tied to a particular “cell”. I.e. if you move your dish too far from your service address it will fail to connect without SpaceX reprovisioning you.

Go with the tried and true Iridium Go. Starlink will not be viable as a moving mobile platform for many months or longer-at the earliest. It will also draw a lot of power and will probably never be suitable for a 28ft. sailboat. Don’t mess around when you are talking about obtaining reliable (possibly lifesaving) info at sea.

You don't need the muffler, its just a little noisier if you're outside. The fuel pump works upright, but it supposedly last longer and has less air bubbles in the fuel if you install at an angle. I'd buy a back up fuel pump, only about $15.

You bought a double wall through hull fitting but then ran the exhaust pipe directly through the bulkhead? you also attached it directly to the hull in places. Unless I am not seeing that correct?

PersonallyI think their just fine. If your gonna solo sail then time will not allow a fancy production effort. Those subscribed are far more interested in content then a fancy presentation. So just go with your gut feeling and you’ll do just fine with daily or weekly updates. I do like the idea of a sequential number to each video, far easier to see and know if I missed one.

I love the videos Sam. I installed the same diesel heater on my boat. Easily one of my favorite creature comforts. From what I understand, the angle on the fuel pump allows the diesel to lubricate the piston appropriately. It will work in any orientation, but without the correct angle it may wear out prematurely. Keep up the good work!

i had good luck exterminating carpenter bees by finding where they nest in the evening filling their hole with foam killer then sealing it with expanding foam. a long staw fed into the holes helps too. do it in the evening or night when they are nested. you are the best on youtube.

I have used both the Airtronic and Chinese heaters and found that a long exhaust will carbon up the combustion chamber fairly quickly. I found that if you run the heater at max temperature for about 10 minutes at regular intervals and I also mix 1 litre of kero with 20 litres of diesel to help burn of excess carbon. These heaters a easy to service but you need to replace both the gaskets at reassembly and also have a special plug socket to remove the glow plug. The screen in the glow plug chamber is a bit of a bugger to remove but they do clog up with carbon fairly quickly especially when the heater is at low speed and will stop the heater from starting. This is usually accompanied with blue smoke coming from the exhaust at the ignition sequence. I usually service my heaters at about 1000 to 1500 hours, to give you an idea of the service life. I think the quality of your diesel could be a lot better than ours in Australia so this will affect all the above problems. These heaters are excellent . I hope this info is of some use . Fair winds

Generally Not bad video, 1st I've watched in a while. Fully outfitting the shop, and going to rent it, keeps occupied (- carpenter bees /wasps... ). A ship to and reship/ mail to address... SkyNet is Future, afaict. And iridium? Seems Slow $. Check out Delos sat on back, see if they will go even smaller. Need more solar, batteries and water maker... You got a delivery & splash date, moving along... Exhaust / heater near fuel line seems problematic...

I use those heaters to keep warm under the boat cover during the winter. That exhaust hose gets hot enough to melt plastic and start wood on fire. Trust me. You want that entire run insulated with at least 1/2" thickness of fiberglass insulation. Leaving it exposed anywhere along its length is inviting a disaster. Please fix this!!!!!

Drawbacks of Starlink have been posted a few times, but I don't know if anyone has pointed out that there's very little chance that Starlink will ever work "at sea". They were approved for ground-to-satellite-to-ground communication. Essentially, if you're far enough away from a ground station that your signal would have to bounce between Starlink satellites to reach shore, that's not likely to happen any time soon. I think I read somewhere that about 20-25 miles from shore is about the best you'll be able to get.

I was watching a wasp and hornet capture system, made by Shawn Woods on RU-vid. He set up a very simple system. It baits them with chicken, water and dish soap. I would think the same would happen with carpenter bees since, they too are carnivorous. Nice to catch up on day to day via vlog. The boat looks awesome. Thank goodness you caught that muffler hole issue, as we don’t want to lose you. :) With you in spirit. T

Starlink is not available as a mobile setup and the constellation is like 9000 Satellites away from being completed and providing full global coverage. This is also exactly why they only allow stationary use and even then you currently experience signal drops because its very far from being done. If you want something that works everywhere and does it right now you got basically no other choice then iridium go

FYI Starlink is NOT mobile. if the antenna moves even a fraction of an inch it causes the receiver to reset. further if you move the antena to far from your registered location it dosn't work. ( I have read this on many forums, I recommend you research this before getting it.
