Forget about what these people saying about your carribean accent and not being American, they need to learn thier geography to know where people come from. I believe its an African American trying to discriminate you being American. People nees to learn. Theres the American virgin islands and the British virgin islands. And even a lot of foreign territories part of several countries that they need to learn. Besides America actually belongs no one but the native Indians ad per history. So what makes one more American than others. They our own black or African Americans discriminate we Africans that go there thinking they are better than them and even get more angry when they see the Africans working the jobs they wouldn't do and progressing much more than them. And theu do the same to the others from carribean too. So its not just Africa they do this to. Yet when the white or Caucasians do same to them they complain saying its racist. They can't change the fact that you are American. Even immigrants go there and become Americans. I dont see a problem with that. If you go to Europe there citizens from some countries there who still have an accent because they speak another language either born there or not and that doesn't change thier nationality.
