The engine is basically four Bonneville 650 engines in one block.

I own a 1964 automatic model. It lacks the 4th speed. The engine has to rev much too high. All the press articles during its time stated this.

@harleythomy I wasn't aware of that issue, but I read that it was addressed in the 1967 upgrade, with a different diff ratio, giving lower revs to achieve the same speed. I assume that acceleration tomes would have been compromised. My only comment is that my 1968 model has no problem keeping up with today's highway speeds, but it is far too slow accelerating in modern traffic.
