Daito Ryu Aikijujutsu & Shorinjin Ryu Saito Ninjutsu Demo 

Also, would like to point out to those complaining about the lack of resistance that the reason that they stopped using full on resistance combat training was because of the fact that Aikijujutsu is designed to cripple your opponent. The hand strikes target only vulnerable areas (face, throat, groin, etc.) and the holds demonstrated here are stopped before the full follow through. In Aikido, a lock ends with the opponent face down and passive. In Aikijujutsu, the lock ends with a broken bone.

Nice demo! I started training Jujitsu in the late 80's and have used a couple of these Shio Nage variations in live sparring. They work! Much respect to all.

That's why it still called until now Daito (Head of Palace) ryu (style), derived from ancient Oshiki Uchi technique,passed through the best of Takeda clan from Yoshimitsu Minamoto as the designer of this ancient art. Still exist until now from 700 years ago. Despite many people mock at the Aikido due the popularity of MMA stuff, Daito Ryu Aikijujutsu not the art that you want messed with. Some practicioner said: if the partner laugh thats Aikido, on the other hand, if the partner scream, that Daito ryu Aikijujutsu. Bow deeply with respect

People dissing and bad mouthing arts.... don't knock something until you have tried it and I mean really tried it, given it everything for a year or more, just because a certain art does not work for you does not mean it doesn't work. Often it doesn't work because of your own doing. Morihei Ueshiba was a very established 8th dan Judoka, 6th dan Kendoka along with many other styles... he chose the peaceful way taken from all his learnings but could have maimed, injured or killed if he believed it had a place.

@longmenpai Daito Ryu was created by someone of the Takeda clan. It would be fairly obvious that it is related to the Takedaryu Aikijutsu, but is there any actual verification?

My favorite Japanese Martial Art= Aikijiujitsu!!! Its a complete combat system!!!

I have taught the counter to the Shiho Nage stall and punch counter at 8 min. The Sensei here was actually being nice with that throw. He could have made the throw even more devastating! Great Demo! and Yes I have Black Belts in Jujitsu, Aiki Jujutsu, Old School Judo and Kenpo Karate and understand the full implications and potential weknesss of the techniques presented here. This is a good demo!

As a practioner and instructor in Saito Ninpo for over 13 years now, some of the the techniques are from the Saito ninjutsu others are Aikijujutsu. Grand Master Saito did study (as a kid I am told) with Professor Okazaki of Danzan Ryu (I believe Okazaki Sensei started in Daito Ryu). I believe that this is footage when Sam Ishigo was teaching way back when. What you will notice Chris can engage more attackers if necessary while still controling his uke. This art seems to be very street ready. Does it have kicks? What percentage of the art is striking versus grapling? Just curious I don't know anything about it.

the uke has to do the ukemis for him to no get hurt where did you practice aikijujutsu or which is your fighting style.

I quite like this. There are some similarities to the Trad Ju Jitsu style I'm trained in. There are also some variations that I've not seen before so some food for thought there and (hopefully) some things I can steal ;-) Thanks for posting.

So many people don't wanna accept other styles. Just like wing chun, there are shaolin wingchun, Ip Man wingchun, etc. Or KaraTe, many styles, and each clan claim theirs, is the most authentic and the most harmonic. You made your own broth, and keep it as your own style! Your body is the vessel, you mind is your master. Seek your own style from many experience, not many masters and styles.

This is an interesting & quite effective martial art of self defense and in fact.

This is interesting work... One, I would point out that, while the uke was certainly not comfortable at various times in the demo, he was not inured. Why would anyone consider this to be worse than any contact sport where there is impact. It's a martial art, there is going to be some pain in training... part of the point is to get past your fear of things that hurt. As long as there is no injury to the body, it's just a part of hard training. Two, people who have no experience with traditional martial arts, especially the arts involving aiki, simply have no idea. I actually turned off comments on my own RU-vid channel because the level of the commentary was so low. For every informed comment there were 20 that sounded like fifteen year olds from Bullshido who simply wanted to say that MMA beats everything, Who has time for that nonsense. I just decided that comments were unnecessary. The folks who know do and the folks who don't don't. Way less aggravating....

I have tried aikido. I have been in wrist locks by bjj and judo (so as aikido). I know it hurts like hell, but, whenever I get the chance I get out of the lock, not stay in it. That's why it's a lock, so whoever makes it has control. If I'm not in control, I'm aching AND he has no holds over me, I can only LET GO, not stay like a fool. That is why twisting a wrist of someone who has a stick, or knife, or w/e weapon will 99% of the time disarm them, and only 1% break the wrist (then disarm).

Would you know what kind of Daito Ryu it is? His Aiki is excellent and is applied very well.

Wow I loved to see this my style is jikite jujitsu on the same lines of this style when I fought mma I collected belts everywhere because they couldn't figure out if I was muay thai tae kwondo judo or what great video! I guess you don't understand that uke gets more out of practice than nage does. Why do you think the teacher did the solo ukemi at the beginning? Did it look like he loosened his body?

Can someone educate me? Aiki jitsu?means what? Are there different aikijutsu schools? Is Daito ryu one of them? Is Ogawa Ryu aikijutsu another one? Are there many DaitoRyu HeadQuarters?

I am impressed (of course) with the video and was wondering if you could answer some questions I have... I am involved with iwama style aikido and am really interested in daito ryu being the progenitor of aikido...

Next point only those who want to become skilled will obtain it so while you be hard working in your particular field martial arts require the same work ethic that body builders have witch is high if you don`t want it badly enough you will not get it , the mind set of martial art is not to be lazy or weak minded I will give you the answer to your specific question when you become more open minded when you learn to ask a question in a polite manner.

Exactly! People say that Tae Kwon Do is ineffective in MMA. However, there was a K1 fighter who used to embarrass his opponents with acrobatic kicks, and punches. Often, the success of a style is dependent upon the creativity and ability of the martial artist. Hell, Aikido, even at its tamest, teaches debilitating holds that can be applied regardless of the fact that they don't train in traditional combat settings.

Yoshinkan aikido is great. Not a well known fact that Shioda sensei trained with kodo horikawa to polish his aiki... Lets train with passion...

@Kazuo1234 When practicing enough with the ideal situation, you see the pattern and you got your moves down to instinct. And whenever your opponents makes a movement remotely resembling the ones you've worked on thousands of time, he's down. There's no shortcut to self-defense. Even using guns needs tremendous time of practice. You don't wave your gun around and expect to survive.

My understanding of Yawara comes from back page ads in comic books from the sixties, so it's possible that I'm wrong about this, but isn't a Yawara a small piece of wood designed to be used as a pressure point weapon? If so. I didn't see it's use demonstrated here. Great display of skill nonetheless.

That technique is work in single strike attack punch , but in reality in street fight people use fake attack for bite, faint and multiple strike and fast jab also fast snap kick , then can be a big different situation

This is a very interesting video. The demonstrator here has some real skill at Aiki that is lacking in many RU-vid videos. I am very curious to find out the demonstrator's name and who he studied with.

@liotta75 Very good for you to recognize that this wouldnt work against certain fighting systems. Not to say that it wouldnt work against thugs or idiots that would attempt to grab someone. Usually those in diciplined styles wouldnt just outright attack someone in the street. I learned Jujitsu, but I also learned tae kwon do, Mauy Thai, Hapkido and other systems to be prepaired for anything. Martial arts training doesnet end in any system. Its a living knowledge that bends to your will alone.

@hapelliotte yes, aikidos mother is daito ryu. tanomo family to takeda to ueshiba. gozo shioda's yoshinkan is a derivitive of ueshiba and kodo horikawas daito ryu.

It seems some what similar to serious bujinkan practice..I wonder had the original bujinkan school in the past taken techniques from daito Ryu?? It's certainly possible.. great video..,😁

I've tried Aikido, which is an are that evolved from this one or the parent art of this one (can't quite remember), and I do understand what you mean, it's just... the uke seems to overreact everything, you look at 1:52, he contorts like that on the ground and pushes his arms against the ground... that is not a natural reaction to pain or any technique in particular... I can't, I just can't.

The technics are really interesting. And the sensei seems to be really powerful. And his ukemi! Amazing. But there are some moments where uke seems to be playing a role while he could simply go away. There is maybe something i don't see.

every grab defense is essentially the same as the strike defense. and the grappler's need to get you on the ground before starting the ground fighting, right? most people would grab you in order to throw you. They start you off with grabs most of the time for two reasons. First, its how its been done for centuries (since the attackers were usually trying to keep you from drawing or using your sword). Second, its better to teach begginers grabbing first. It teaches them the principle better.

this is what the original AIkido looked like before it was watered down- it was so brutal like this demo, that the spiritual advisor to Ueshiba had him water it down

i really like the way he throws his atemi (excuse me if this should not be your correct term, i am from an aikido background)

heres my opinion,self defense isnt a match fight,its an attack,often by surprise so a good heavy strike preemptively could work each time,all striking arts have them.However most dont teach the control and awareness needed to land that first strike.Now if you get hit first or your tech doesnt work,youre now in a match fight where only styles that spar full on and wrestle are prepared physically and mentally,you need to have been hurt and fought back before.

if its in mma,it works anywhere but that doesnt mean it would be strategically right eg you wouldnt take down someone if there were 3 friends present.

You keep the grip because its common sense, the sensei its a death machina and if you let go, he would hit every single last atemi in your body, so in the delution of keeping control, you just do the only thing you could, and that is to keep the grip to where ever you are holding on to ;)

impresive....while obviously a demo, it retains the 'martial' aspects of this classical/ traditional art. lucky the uke was so flexible other wise it would have sounded very crunchy...

I think it was that long only to show of the ammount of control he had over the opponent. In real life the reciever would most likely thrown the attacker into the ground or something to that effect.

It's simple, really. If they're a skilled boxer you keep away from them. Then, one of three things will happen: 1) the boxer will wear himself out and be easier to get a hold of 2) the boxer will get frustrated and make a mistake 3) you'll give yourself a chance to run away. Plus, I've been put into one of those wrist-locks. Trust me, you'd have to have epic willpower to not cooperate when they start leading you around. It hurts like hell. Plus, not all of the attacks are joint locks.

@Mooneshadow...I also trained in variouse systems, BJJ, Muay Thai, Krav Maga, JKD, MMA..thats how I iknow what works and what doesn't, Dait Ryu is a very effective style, i was just suggesting it be better to practice against full power punches and kicks and grappling, rather than just against holding and grabbing.

One of the biggest things that influences me to start shrugging it off is when the guy kept himself in shihonage without being held by nage (2 times this happened). The nage left himself open to a rear naked choke attempt twice and most everyone would left go of they found their grab induced pain via wrist lock techniques...not hang on.
