I take a hose to my saltwater reels after every use. So far it works. Keeping in mind to do yearly maintenance. Thanks Dennis. Interesting design.

Great Joyce. It is all too easy to just pack the rod/reel in the car after a long day on the water and forget to hose it off. If you take care of the tackle it will take care of you. Best wishes - Dennis

I got a Daiwa Emblem X 5500T in new condition for $11.50 about a year ago. I got it to put slick braid on and use for long casting past the bar when surf fishing it has worked perfectly This Emblem Z looks a lot like the Emblem X but they have differences internally. My Emblem X reel is probably the best deal I ever got on EBay! I did not have to remove the AR mechanism on the Emblem X in order to get to that main pinion bearing. This Emblem Z has a beautiful main gear! This Emblem Z is more complex internally than the X model. Both are excellent reels though. The only locktite I use is the blue and even then only on power knob installations. I had to use it on a slightly stripped side plate screw once. I use the bail manually on my X reel. I’ve got to get out my Emblem X to get it ready for fishing. It is my long casting reel that I put on a !2’ rod. It really does do a great job as a surf reel. This was a great video. I had forgotten you were going to do this one but I’m glad you did!

I'm not sure, but that black on the pinion gear and shaft may be a coating, maybe Cerakote. If so. it's probably there for additional corrosion resistance. The metal is probably stainless steel.

I'm not sure either, but if it helps, I am all for it - Dennis

For my long distance bank fishing, I use an Amazon bootleg pit reel on my Shakespeare UK flattie rod with 8lb braid. I send a 2 oz hi low rig to the horizon

That sounds like a nice set up. The Amazon reel should hold up if you keep it clean and lubricated. Thanks for the note and for watching - Dennis

Hi, thank you for an informative video. I have a pair of Daiwa Emblem 6000A with spare spools for distance carp fishing. I have changed spools in the past but this time around the spools will not go in far enough for the drag knob to engage and hold the spool. It appears that the line clicker is not going into the recessof the spool. I have tried and can only get one spool to fit again. Does anyone know what the problem could be?

If it is the clicker under the spool, rotate it counterclockwise while installing it and it should help it set in the ratchet. Also check to kale sure the drag washers are aligned inside the spool. Turn the spool upside down and try putting it on the axle shaft. Twist and turn it until it bottoms out. That will help align the key washers. Once they are aligned, you can flip the spool over and install the normal way. Dennis

Dennis, of all the reels I took fishing this past week, the only one that gave me trouble was my Emblem X 5500T Daiwa reel. While I was fishing it seized on me. Today when I got home I took the reel apart and found that AR override piece on the main gear had come off and the metal piece on the rear of the worm gear had come out and jammed the reel. That metal piece was at the rear of the reel just inside that bushing on the worm gears I’ve fixed it but that piece was all bent up. This Embiem X 5500T is exactly like this reel except their is no anti-reverse bearing. I can’t figure out how those two pieces got loose inside the reel in the first place. Any ideas?

Hi bud, I like the channel, any chance you can do a strip down and service demonstration on a daiwa tournament 5000t please

I don't have that one. I did two Whisker Tournament videos, but have not done the larger one - If I get one in, I will make sure to do it.

Hi I have these reels and they have been well used over the past 20 year's. But they have developed a bit of play ( in and out) on the main shaft what would you consider to be acceptable travel on the shaft with the spool on. Thanks
@2ndChanceTackle
@2ndChanceTackle 2 года назад
Wear like that is to be expected. It is usually the slot in the crosswind block that gets elongated and the stud on the crosswind gear that loses diameter. That causes the excessive movement up and down on the spool. What is acceptable? If the spool is still winding evenly, then it is OK. If the line starts bunching or spooling high or low or winding in a figure 8 pattern, then that would be excessive. If you can live with it, keep it fishing. Parts would probably be hard to find and the repair not worth the cost. Dennis
