this reel is perfect without that meter thing....we dont have so much free time for monitoring jig drop length, speed, water temperature, water salinity battery level etc........we just want light reliable guided line overhead thumb release reel.....thats it....old saltiga bj 300 is perfect..... south east asian water perspective......
It's actually pretty helpful at times. This is a jigging reel and if you go on a sportfishing boat, you'll often hear the captain tell you the depth at which he's marking the fish. The depth gauge will allow you to go to that exact depth to target the fish. A year ago, when I went on an SD boat, there was one guy on the boat who was out fishing everyone on yellowtail and it was his first time fishing. He said that he was just listening to the captain and getting his rig down to that depth. This works best for jigging reels. The meter also helps you from snags since you'd know exactly when you would be hitting bottom.
